*If you're someone who harvested from the Light Dragon to max upgrade your armor, this is for you. You don't need armor upgrades to be successful in the game. I've beaten the game twice now without any armor upgrades.* Short Story: You’ve done it – you defeated Ganondorf, the Demon King. The Light Dragon proved a useful ally in that final fight, catching you when you fell, safely carrying you back up above the Dark Dragon to deal those final blows.
And then the Light Dragon transforms into Princess Zelda, the very person you’ve been searching for since waking up on the Great Sky Island.
Maybe this is news to you – maybe you didn’t investigate the geoglyphs, or maybe you didn’t save all four regions in distress or find the Sage of Spirit. Maybe you didn’t pick up on the hints dropped here and there by people you encountered along the way. Regardless, now you know the truth – that Zelda was the Light Dragon.
She who you were sworn to protect. She who has been one of your closest friends for several years now at least. Maybe there’s something even more than friendship between the two of you – maybe not. It doesn’t really matter what kind of relationship you envision here; what matters is that you and Zelda were undeniably close friends who cared about one another’s wellbeing.
Yet now she is looking at you with a horrified expression on her face. The hurt of betrayal shines in her tear-filled eyes. She recoils away from you, heartbroken, holding up a hand as if to protect herself from you.
Why would Zelda be afraid of you? Why does she look so miserable?
As you look at her in bewilderment, you take in the sight of her, of the skin exposed by her dress. There are scratches, some deeper than others, across her body. Some on her face, close to her eyes. Her lips are cut and bleeding, and there is blood in her mouth. A fingernail on her raised hand, a weak shield, is badly torn and mangled.
How was she injured, you wonder. Was this damage from the fight with the Demon King? But she had stayed at a safe distance away from him, from what you remember. She shouldn’t have been hurt from that.
Then you realize.
The Great Fairies told you they could enhance your armor, but they required certain rare items in order to do so. Certain rare items, and perhaps a little something extra from yourself, depending on how you think about it; they are quite flirtatious creatures.
And some of those rare items… they were pieces taken from the dragons. Fragments of horn, fragments of teeth and claws, scales and tail spikes. The most effective, the most useful for strengthening your armor, came from the Light Dragon.
The Light Dragon, who is Zelda.
You did this to her. By your hand, you plucked scales from her body. You mined fragments from her tail. You shaved pieces off of her horns, teeth, and claws. Now you see the damage wrought – the scrapes and scratches all across her body, the blood in her mouth and across her head, the bitterly torn fingernails and toenails. You did this to her. She who you were sworn to protect. She who was your closest friend.
You should have known better. She gave you all the pieces you would need in order to learn the truth about the Light Dragon. The Recall ability, to access the memories contained in the tears she shed. The Purah Pad, which housed the spirit of Mineru and her personal knowledge of Zelda’s great sacrifice for you.
Perhaps you did know the Light Dragon’s identity prior to this moment. But that only makes it worse.
In the end, regardless of what you did or did not know before now, the truth remains the same. You betrayed and injured one of your closest friends for the sake of your own comfort.
Was it worth it?
Yes and reminder removing scales and horns as well as fragments are the equivalent of removong skin humans and snakes both do that dumbass!
