Random stuff I think up

Ok so here's a list of my tags, mostly so i can fucking remember them. Since I have trouble with that, a fair bit of the tagging will be inconsistent and blurry, but at the very least there shouldn't be any posts lost to the tagless void (for posts that would otherwise be lost to the tagless void, see #ut, untagged). Putting a read more cause it's... long.

through various circumstances beyond your control, you are being forced to add a minimum of one extra eye to your body. the entity (probably wizard or warlock) forcing this upon you is nice enough to give you a choice.

note: the eye/s will by default look like your pre-existing eyes, same color and shape, unless you come up with something cool enough to convince the wizard/warlock to put in the extra effort to fulfill your design desires. i.e. giving you the pupil of a goat, making your iris purple, making the eye insanely large, etc. make your plea in the tags if you so wish.

I had a Terry's Chocolate Orange once in an airport 10 years ago (they’re very hard to come by in the US, I’ve never seen them sold anywhere else) and I think about it everyday.

Avatar

So what you’re saying in the replies is that they are sold everywhere and they’re just hiding them from me every time I enter a store.

Avatar

So what you’re saying is some sort of evil sorcerer put a curse on me to make Terry’s chocolate oranges totally invisible to me.

Attempting to obtain the orange by other means is not working.

My mother just told me she bought me a chocolate orange one year for Christmas and put it in my stocking over the fireplace and it MELTED BEFORE I COULD EAT IT. I’m starting to think there is an actual curse on me and this is no longer a joke.

Avatar

btw, I DID get my chocolate orange in February and it WAS as good as I remember it. it was so precious and rare that I only let myself have 3 orange lobes at a time

Avatar

It’s actually because they’re a decadent, rare and beautiful treat and if they were available to us year round, we would forget that.

Terry's Chocolate Orange is really good.

As one TV ad said: "It's not Terry's. It's MINE!"

(Though it's beaten by a bar @dduane bought from BienManger - Bovetti 73% with candied orange pieces. That was really something, eaten sparingly over several days, a couple of times as accompaniment to espresso coffee - and as of right now, added to the wish list for our next BM order...)

Also, is my memory playing me tricks (it's been years since I ate or even saw one *) but did the Jacob's Orange Club biscuit have orange-flavoured chocolate as well as an orange filling?

* makes note to correct this oversight ASAP.

GET HIS ASS

This animal looks fucking FAKE

the tree shrew is extremely similar in format to the 65 million year old mammals that survived the dinosaurs and their mass extinction to eventually became you and me.

often referred to as a “living fossil” the little direct physical evidence we have indicates that they have undergone almost no evolutionary changes in at least the last 34 million years. One of gods perfect idiots, no need for revision

A doctor saying "Good news! Your labs look great" is like if you were watching a cop show and the chief walked in like "Great news, everybody! The best news! The killer is still at large and we have no leads."

One time I was like pretty sure I had finally figured out that I had Symptoms Disease due to all the Symptoms and my doctor did some tests and she was like. Good news! You don't have Symptoms Disease!

And I started crying and she was like, is there something in your eye? And I said no I'm crying? And she was like, oh? Why? And I said, because we can't fix my Symptoms because we still don't know what's wrong with me? And she was like. Nothing's wrong with you! :)

Actually something similar had happened to me multiple times (and in some of those cases I did in fact get diagnosed with the relevant Symptoms Disease years later) but the one where the doctor asked if I had something in my eye because she couldn't comprehend that not having answers would be upsetting, that was definitely one of the most situations ever.

“i think some people are basically coming around to this, like, greater comfort in owning up to being a pervert about something. shout out domino club “being sickos about X” sort of thing, where sickos is the meme of a pervert looking in on something that excites him. the author is sickos about a subject, and indulges himself; the audience are sickos about his indulgence, self recognition via the other - yeah haha sweat really IS that hot, thanks for putting it into disgustingly indulgent words so i can see what you see. i think when writers are afraid to be perverts that they make bad work. they make the work that can’t stand by itself, collapsing on interrorgation or challenge; or too many contrasting and unconfident voices have averaged out to a sort of perversion of the commons, indulging only the safest and most unoffensive fetishes to render on the screen. because when art displays the common fetishes of heterosexual matrimony, fast cars and big guns and big-but-not-gargantuan breasts, labouring under capitalism, even such apparently inoffensive things as such as sexless wholesome romanticism, perfect bodies that refuse to fuck, a prioritising of soft uwu safety over any kind of flavour - these absolutely are fetishes. every day you are smothered in the common perversions of so much of society, endless generic creators indulging their endless generic fetishes while denying that they are in any sort of way perverts.”

being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past ‘dresses are for women and pants are for men.’ i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we’ve made

“We’re in danger of losing what the entire second wave of feminism, what the entire second wave of women’s liberation was built on, and that was ‘Biology is not destiny’. ‘One is not born a woman,’ Simone de Beauvoir said, ‘one becomes one’. Now there’s some place where transsexual women and other women intersect. Biological determinism has been used for centuries as a weapon against women, in order to justify a second-class and oppressed status. How on Earth, then, are you going to pick up the weapon of biological determinism and use it to liberate yourself? It’s a reactionary tool.”

obviously dietary requirements aren't a joke but my grandma sometimes runs errands for her church and i asked her what she's up to today and she said extremely seriously "ive got to track down the body of the gluten free christ, julia"

They are not as high-profile as the WGA, but I would like to bring everyone's attention to the imminent strike action by thousands of hotel workers in Los Angeles. They are set to go on strike tomorrow, July 1st, 2023.

More than 15,000 hotel workers are seeking higher pay, better benefits, and working conditions. This includes an across-the-board $5 an hour raise, as well as affordable healthcare and better pensions. They also are seeking a ban on the use of E-Verify, which is used to deny employment to undocumented workers and workers involved with the criminal justice system. You can follow what is happening at their Twitter.

In general, I think it's currently really important for progressive Christians to be very loud about being both progressive and deeply religious Christians, and for everyone else fighting for progressive values to be supportive of them doing just that. I know that's like, idk, counter-intuitive or cringe or whatever, but seriously folks, the alternative is that progressive Christians have to be quiet about their faith to be accepted within broader secular and interfaith progressive advocacy, which means that the regressive asshole Christians (a) sound that much louder and (b) dominate the USian religious landscape all the more. That's a problem, for all of us.

We need people pushing back within the faith as well as outside of it, because that destroys any edifice that this is about Christianity and religious freedom.

You can be a devout Christian and also:

  • Openly, proudly, and without being forced to remain celibate or otherwise limit your full expression of self, identify as LGBTQ+ or be a supportive ally.
  • Advocate for full reproductive autonomy and comprehensive sex education.
  • Love and support people of other religious groups, non-religious people and/or atheists, by choosing to believe that a truly loving God would not pursue anything less than universal salvation.
  • Stand against evangelism and proselytizing as they have thus far been interpreted and used, because there are ways to interpret the Great Commission that don't promote colonialism and cultural genocide.
  • A steward of the earth, protecting God's beautiful creation and lovingly tending to it as the unique and incredible gift that it is.
  • A believer in science, rationalism, and human progress as part of God's divine plan for humanity.
  • A believer in history and someone who understands that the Bible can be both divinely given and open to interpretation (no really)(if you're confused, please talk to a knowledgeable traditional Jew)
  • An ally to Jews, who stands against supercessionism and antisemitism in the church.

And in before regressive Christians come shouting at me that (1) what do I know, I'm a Jew and (2) no lol you can't because of ___ reason:

My source is that I've personally met and talked to Christians of great faith and integrity - people who embody the closest forms of kindness I've seen to what Jesus himself advocated - who are each of these things.

It is 100% possible; you just choose to believe otherwise.
