in junior year of highschool my art teacher would let our ceramics class play music of our choice off of her desktop. we usually used spotify or youtube but she did have one album downloaded on her computer. it was a halloween sound effects/ambience collection. i dont remember why she had it. there was a track on there called "burning screams" which was exactly what it sounds like. just a cacophony of screams alongside crackling fire. she only let us play it on very special occasions, and we would cheer and jump with joy every time. it was like a pizza party to us

please imagine 6 teenagers with giant sad puppy eyes looking at a dear sweet 50 something year old art teacher and asking "may we please hear burning screams"

hey! don't do this! if it tears or otherwise leaks in any way you're going to get cheese and meat grease in your toaster and that's a really really great way to start fires. toasters are made for bread. they are not made for anything else and especially not something that is going to potentially drip grease as it heats up

i realized that just scrolling by this addition is easy to miss or skim over but tl;dr:

A Magical Taxonomy

Warlock: from wær (old English, “pact/oath”) + loga (proto-Germanic, “liar”) + hard “-ck” (Scotch English); Oathbreaker (contextually; breaker of Baptismal Oaths; hence also Apostate)

Wizard: from Wis (old English, “knowledgeable”) + -ard (same, “too much of”); Possessor of too much knowledge

Witch: from weyk (proto-indo-European, “apart, separated, different”)[connotations akin to Latin’s “Sacre”]; Sacred Outsider

Sorcerer: from Sors (Latin, “Fate”) and Ser (same,“to bind”); Fate Manipulator

Druid: from dru (proto-Celtic, “Oak”) + weyd (same, “to see”); Oak-Seer, or Tree-Knower

Cleric: from kleros (Ancient Greek, “lots/ casting lots/ drawing lots”) [contextually; public servants were selected by drawing lots, as opposed to, say, voting]; Public Servant / Clerk

Bard: from bard (proto-Celtic, “Bard”); Bard

OK so. The drowning situation idk how to explain but from what I've read and heard. It's a fake situation created to make fun of kin drama where basically at a pool party* 3-4 years ago a person who kinned gamzee tried to drown a person who kinned dave over kindating drama. the gamzeekin's post got popular which lead to a mutual of the davekin calling them out for being an attempted murderer on the gamzeekin's post. BUT it turns out that the davekin's mutual, and the gamzeekin OP are the same person. So the drowning thing never happened. Gamzeekin is saying the attempted murder allegations are a lie, because a.) they were 14 at the time b.) they don't know how to swim.** c.) the davekin's sister*** said that the davekin was lying about the whole drowning situation

*there was only one adult at the party who was a mother and most of the people there were young - teenagers

** they were at the pool party and didn't know how to swim to quote "touch grass and get a nice tan"

*** this person is allegedly lying about being the davekin's sister , as said by someone who dated the davekin for a period of time

The rest of it is really convoluted in which multiple fandoms like dsmp/mcyt, steven universe, and US president RPF comes up? But none of that matters because this was an orchestrated drama see here(link)

To give a quick summary of the convoluted stuff: the davekin also kinned Reagan and talked about wanting to fuck Joe Biden and Joe Biden NSFW asmr was brought up. Gamzeekin said this was problematic due to it being RPF. An anon went to the gamzeekin's blog claiming that gk had softblocked them for defending the davekin. The gamzeekin said that they actually blocked them for liking steven universe. Apparently the anon also got deadnamed by the gamzeekin? Idk. The davekin also threatened to lock someone in a freezer for not kinning nepeta? Yeah

Anyways taking my bow that's it . Probably got a shitload of stuff wrong but does it matter? No. Didn't use names cause frankly I'm bad with them. All of this is ask to tag cause Jesus Christ where do I start.

I'm just putting these tags here cause Idfk man.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL

“oh we shouldn’t teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where it’s noisy or they need to be quiet”

My mom learned it because she figured she’ll go deaf when she gets old

My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.

The only reason some form of sign language is not a standard skill is ableism, as far as I can tell.

For anyone interested in learning, Bill Vicars has full lessons of ASL on youtube that were used in my college level classes.

and here’s the link to the website he puts in his videos:

Update: you guys this is an amazing resource for learning asl. Bill Vicars is an incredible teacher. His videos are of him teaching a student in a classroom, using the learned vocabulary to have conversations.

Not only is the conversation format immersive and helpful for learning the grammar, but the students make common mistakes which he corrects, mistakes I wouldn’t have otherwise know I was making.

He also emphasizes learning ASL in the way it’s actually used by the Deaf community and not the rigid structure that some ASL teachers impose in their classrooms

His lesson plans include learning about the Deaf community, which is an important aspect of learning ASL. Knowing how to communicate in ASL without the knowledge of the culture behind it leaves out a lot of nuances and explanations for the way ASL is.

Lastly, his lessons are just a lot of fun to watch. He is patient, entertaining, and funny. This good natured enthusiasm is contagious and learning feels like a privilege and not a chore

And it’s all FREE. Seriously. If you’ve ever wanted to learn ASL
