Would you be willing to help spread word and support for healthcare workers who plan to picket and strike?

My union is planning to picket in Modesto, CA, on July 25th from 7-4pm for better wages and a better contract. For housekeeping, we're getting paid $16 to $18, while others around us are making $21 to $30. And that's not talking about us being understaffed, overworked, and reprimanded for not doing a 2+ person job perfectly when we often don't have the supplies to do it. And that's just for housekeepers.

Mind you, that's on top of being given only 6 sick days, 5 days vacation, and 1 day pto for the whole year. I can't ask for more days off, and any more call offs may lead to my termination. I had to miss LARGE family/friend events because they land on the days I work, including my sister's baby shower. I have to schedule and reschedule a few needed medical appointments weeks and months out to have it land on my day off because they had no openings before noon.

Sorry for the long text, but if you can share this or help us make some noise, that'll be extremely helpful

Happy to share, but I'm not sure there's enough information here yet for people to support you.

Good luck. I hope you get what you are asking for.

Just a note to the people who have now seen episodes 1 and 2 to say...

...you know how cool it was to see all that stuff and be surprised and delighted?

Please do your best to keep it to yourself for another 9 days. So that other people can be happy and surprised in the same way that you were.

Hi Neil,

First of all, I hope this ask sees you well, and that you’re having a good day ^^

I just wanted to clarify something regarding the recent strikes. I heard that, as far as the SAG AFTRA strike is concerned, any online content is considered promotion, and that cosplay content such as photos and videos by independent creators (of series’ both past and present of the studios in question) would be considered crossing the picket line. They had presented an email as proof of this, but the crop of it made it difficult for me to determine the veracity of it. Have you heard anything about this, and if yes, is it true?

Unless you are a SAG-AFTRA member promoting an actual show that you were actually in online, you aren't in violation of any rules. Anyone who tells you otherwise, trying to persuade people not in SAG-AFTRA that they are "crossing a picket line" by putting up cosplay videos or whatever is trolling people and hoping to upset them for their own purposes which are not those of the unions.

Marie Antoinette (2006) dir. Sofia Coppola ⤷ “A week later Marie Antoinette and Louis Auguste made a state visit to the opera, which for the Dauphine at least, with her passion for music and singing, was sheer pleasure. … Marie Antoinette showed her natural enthusiasm when it came to the applause. Theoretically, this was forbidden at court performances, so that the few claps in the pit were usually quickly stopped by the guards. But when Marie Antoinette asked the lady beside her to applaud, there was a general ovation. The Dauphine could do nothing wrong.” - Antonia Fraser, Marie Antoinette: The Journey

I'm going to need y'all to preemptively chill out because the actor's strike is going to mean a lot of things including shows and movies we've been anticipating being pushed way back, and absolutely minimal press tours for the next however long this lasts.

The effects of the writer's strike are months down the road which made it a whole lot easier to support because as third parties we weren't really being affected (yet), the effect of the actor's strike is going to be immediate and we're going to get a lot more propaganda of "these people are overpaid to begin with."

Remember our desire for content does not supersede these people's rights to live.

Support unions, support the strikes.

REMEMBER!!!!! The actor's strike is NOT about the ten or so A-list actors whose names you can rattle off off-hand, this is about everybody else, the people you see on tv shows and movies, who you recognize as often being in the productions you love playing this or that bit character but you have no idea what their actual name is. The guest stars, the background actors (aka 'extras'), and everybody in between. A-list actors can name their own price- this isn't about them. But SAG-AFTRA is *BIGGER* than those people! And this is about them and protecting their incomes and rights.

As this second strike joins the first, remember that!!!

It's about all the "hey, it's that guy"s.

With that said, it’s GOOD that A-listers are also walking off! That creates more pressure! There are always ten, a hundred, a thousand more extras. There’s only one Chris Evans and if he walks, there’s no replacing him. Those folks striking is GOOD for the smaller actors.

They know it, too. Right before this one, literally RIGHT before it, I read a post where Matt Damon said for him it’s about the minimum income requirement to get health insurance, and how most actors only cross that threshold because of residuals. He straight-up called it “a life or death matter for some people.” He knows he’s not “some people,” but he’s also aware “some people” are out there and need their voices amplified.

Is it helpful to the strike to promote Good Omens 2 when it comes out? Or should we not do that?

Because I really like the show and want to make content about it, but if it means that they will just see my content as free promotion than that’s probably not good.

In my head if Good Omens 2 is a huge hit then it gives Amazon an incentive to settle the strike and make some more.

Good day to you Neil! :)

Just wondering, now that SAG-AFTRA is officially on strike too, will this impact the Good Omens 2 promotions in any way?

Once again thank you so much for taking time out to answer our questions — you don’t have to but that’s precisely why it means all the more to us <3

It means that Jon Hamm, David Tennant and Michael Sheen and Miranda Richardson (and possibly others) can't go out now and promote it, and that the SDCC event will definitely be a screening and not actors talking on a panel.

(Edit to add, the Strike has not yet been declared.)

So I thought I'd actually write something as a starting point for ways to watch and discuss Good Omens 2.

To be honest, if I had my druthers, Good Omens 2 would be released daily or weekly. There are mysteries and things to work out and speculate upon that build episode by episode. There are things to think about before the next episode begins.

I do not have my druthers* and when Good Omens 2 drops on the 28th it will drop all at once. Which is good news for people who want to binge and don't want to talk about it until the end.

But there will be people who won't want to go online and have people who watched the whole thing spoil or discuss or reveal. There will be people who will watch Episode 1 and puzzle and hypothesize and imagine. And then, when they are ready, watch Episode 2, and ponder and suppose and so on.

So I'd suggest that the G02 fandom think about ways to be able to discuss episodes up to a certain point. That there's an episode 1 group, and episode 2 and so on, with spoiler warnings, taking you through episode 6, by the end of which most of your questions will have been answered.

I'm throwing this out in a post for people to discuss, come up with suggestion, ignore or reject. There may be ways to make it work, there may not.

Mostly I want people to be able to talk and guess and trade their ideas without being squashed by those who have seen it and without squashing people who are not up to that point.

*If the Writers Strike had not happened it's possible that my suggestion that we drop the episodes daily over 6 days might actually have been acted upon. But it did and it wasn't.

Btw much as I love to make fun of twitter and reddit's business decisions, I have 0% trust in tumblr's management to not go a similar route so this is your gentle reminder that you should regularly go to your blog settings to export your blog. That's a fancy way of saying you can download a backup of your blog so if everything goes down you'll still have a backup of your posts & convos.

It's gonna come as a surprise to most of you, but if you don't want to do that for whatever reason you're allowed to not reblog this post. I'm not holding a gun to your head here I'm just trying to spread the word for people who do want a backup of their stuff.
