ANNA KENDRICK as DARBY CARTER in Love Life (2020)
yall i picked chloe ( @anna-kendrick ) up at the airport and we met anna kendrick (real)…she’s shorter than we expected?? anyway welcome to new york and all that (i love u)
Going along with that Chloe has distant/cold/not affectionate parents, imagine Chloe meeting Beca's mom for the first time. Chloe is obviously super nervous because 1. it's her gf's mom and 2. her experiences with parents are largely shitty. So they go to Beca's home and Chloe is trying not to hyperventilate. Beca's mom turns out to be the coolest person Chloe has ever met (she is a painter AND Beca got her love for music from her) but aside from her endlessly entertaining stories, the woman welcomes Chloe with open arms. Chloe spends the whole time there half expecting the rug to be pulled out from under her, but, when they are saying goodbye, Beca's mom pulls her in a bear hug, and whispers "Welcome to the family." and Chloe damn near breaks down right there
o...do u mean maybe something like this?? mayhaps? i gave it a shot?

"You're nervous," Beca observes, sitting down at the edge of the bed in the guest room where they've been unpacking since arriving at Beca's mother's house. "I've never seen you like this."
Chloe pokes at Beca's thigh with her foot. "I'm not nervous."
"You're biting your nail, babe."
Chloe lowers her hand sheepishly. "Bad habit."
"Nervous habit," Beca corrects gently. "It's fine, Chloe. It's just my mom."
"It's not just your mom," Chloe emphasizes. She sits up so she can scoot towards Beca across the bed. Placing her hands on Beca's thigh, she squeezes gently. "My girlfriend's mom. It means something."

riding in cars with chloe
beca has the joy of experiencing chloe’s irresponsible driving, but she’s not really complaining because being with chloe feels like flying.
set during PP2. inspired by brittany snow’s instagram story wherein she does insane things while driving in a car but she looks very cute doing these things.
a/n: i do not advocate for irresponsible driving. stay in school, kids.

“No,” Beca says emphatically.
“We have to listen to just the beginning,” Chloe insists, fumbling with her phone.
Beca’s eyes widen as Chloe takes her hands off the steering wheel to fully focus on her phone.
“Chloe,” she hisses. “Please. I want to live past twenty-five. I know what Edge of Seventeen sounds like.”
Chloe pouts, but lets her phone fall to her lap. Beca snatches it and safely secures it and puts it in the cupholder between them. Weekend errands have become kind of their thing, just the two of them. They buy stuff for the house, the Bellas, stuff they need for outfits.
It’s sickeningly domestic, if Beca’s being honest.
She loves it, if Beca’s being extra honest.
“You know,” Beca muses, “I don’t know how I’m always the one who ends up with a parking ticket or somehow gets pulled over by undercover cops when you’re the one who seems to have no respect for the rules of the road.”
Chloe’s giggle is melodic as it floats through the car. “The rules of the road. You sound like my dad.”
Beca grumbles to herself, opting to look out the window instead of dignifying that with a response.
“Okay, but seriously, please just consider working this song into an arrangement.”
“Maybe.”
“You can’t just maybe Stevie Nicks,” Chloe exclaims like Beca has just threatened her life. Chloe pauses off for a moment before once again lifting her hands off the steering wheel to seemingly pretend to work in a drum solo or something else equally insane.
“CHLOE!”
Chloe points at her phone. “Let me put it on at the next red light or it’s going to drive me crazy. It’s been stuck in my head.”
“Fine. But at the next red light. And keep your hands on the wheel.”
“Eyes on the road?” Chloe asks sweetly, a laugh bubbling out of her.
“Ideally yes!”
There is something freeing about seeing Chloe like this: carefree, open, and smiling. With all the strain Chloe has placed on herself over the past few months - with Worlds, the Bellas, and dealing exceptionally patiently with Beca’s evasive nature, it’s just nice seeing Chloe happy.
It feels so simple like this, sitting in a car next to Chloe, watching her smile and sing and do all the things that made Beca so invested in the Bellas in the first place.
This is uncomplicated; this is fun; this is not Jesse or LA or thinking about the future. This is now.
At the next red light, Chloe, as promised puts on the song. The song’s intro blares through Chloe’s car speakers, engulfing them with the sound of a classic. Even Beca knows that. And she’s never going to say no to some Stevie Nicks. But she’ll let that remain unsaid.
“I’ll consider it,” Beca says finally. “But not sure it’s going to work with the vibe of what we’re going for.”
Chloe doesn’t seem to mind. She shrugs, tapping her hands on the steering wheel. “I just wanted to play it,” she says, turning to smile at Beca.
Beca kind of loves seeing Chloe smile. “I know, nerd.”
