Goth DIY

It has become apparent that the gothy DIY knowledge of years past has not fluttered out to many folks. Here, let me give you some quick suggestions:

  • The Tights Thing: Get a pair of tights. (Which can often be found at dollar stores and thrift stores!) Cut out the crotch, and cut off the feet or make holes for your thumbs and fingers. Ta-da! A shirt!

Things To Do To Any Garment:

  • Safety pins: Get lots of safety pins (which can also be found at dollar stores), and use them to make designs on an item of clothing. (I've added safety pins in a line down seams on jackets.)
  • Paint pens: Draw on your clothes! Write song lyrics or quotes! (This also works with bleach pens.)
  • Appliques: You can sew or use safety pins to attach damn near anything you cut apart from another garment, a patch, or pieces of other fabric to something else.
  • Change the buttons. You can buy all sorts of interesting buttons from fabric stores, Amazon, eBay, Ali-Express ... you get the idea. Change the plain buttons on a shirt or jacket to interesting ones!
  • Add trim: Lace, ribbons, fringe, grommet tape ... hell, you can even sew chain onto things.

And finally, here's the Gothic Charm School post on Gothy DIY essentials! Go forth and alter your clothes!

Because the "goth is bougie" discourse nonsense made me realize I should reblog this ...

If a trans woman became chess world champion, terfs would unironically go: "It's unfair, male brains are much smarter than female brains. It's well known that women are fucking stupid. #feminism"

They literally did this to a trans woman who won a game of jepoardy named Amy Schneider.

Like they unironically argued that men are "socialized to like trivia more than women" and "men are genetically predisposed to have faster reaction times than women" and other complete nonsense.

"Women are fucking stupid and inherently inferior to men" - terfs, without a single fucking shred of irony or self-awareness

its literally even fucking co-ed!!! its not like jeopardy is a fucking gendered thing!!! there were also men competing w her!!! wtf

People who fully believe Link only cares about his duty which is why he sticks around Zelda is so funny like genuinely this is probably what Link tells himself too everyday as he makes her breakfast while she sleeps in their shared bed

Link: Being Princess Zelda's protected knight includes many responsibilities which I take seriously. This includes protecting her, going on journeys with her, making sure she's safe and healthy

Also Link: In order for that I must be near her of course. So we live together, naturally. We also share the same bed because I have to make sure she's sleeping. Also I make her 3 meals a day, including spoiling her with deserts cause she smiles so sweetly when she gets them. Also making her favorite lavender tea (with a hint of milk and 4 sugars). It's also within my duty to kiss her awake when the sun shines within the right ang-

A note to all creatives:

Right now, you have to be a team player. You cannot complain about AI being used to fuck over your industry and then turn around and use it on somebody else’s industry.

No AI book covers. No making funny little videos using deepfakes to make an actor say stuff they never did. No AI translation of your book. No AI audiobooks. No AI generated moodboards or fancasts or any of that shit. No feeding someone else’s unfinished work into Chat GPT “because you just want to know how it ends*” (what the fuck is wrong with you?). No playing around with AI generated 3D assets you can’t ascertain the origin of. None of it. And stop using AI filters on your selfies or ESPECIALLY using AI on somebody else’s photo or artwork.

We are at a crossroad and at a time of historically shitty conditions for working artists across ALL creative fields, and we gotta stick together. And you know what? Not only is standing up for other artists against exploitation and theft the morally correct thing to do, it’s also the professionally smartest thing to do, too. Because the corporations will fuck you over too, and then they do it’s your peers that will hold you up. And we have a long memory.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking “your peers” are only the people in your own industry. Writers can’t succeed without artists, editors, translators, etc making their books a reality. Illustrators depend on writers and editors for work. Video creators co-exist with voice actors and animators and people who do 3D rendering etc. If you piss off everyone else but the ones who do the exact same job you do, congratulations! You’ve just sunk your career.

Always remember: the artists who succeed in this career path, the ones who get hired or are sought after for commissions or collaboration, they aren’t the super talented “fuck you I got mine” types. They’re the one who show up to do the work and are easy to get along with.

And they especially are not scabs.

*that’s not even how it ends that’s a statistically likely and creatively boring way for it to end. Why would you even want to read that.

Okay so I did some research, very basic research, on the user base of tumblr and how many of us there are.

There are at least 300 million unique visitors worldwide on this site. Over 500 million blogs.

Listen. Tumblr is $30 million in debt. This is Super easy for us to solve.

If each user gifts one blog crabs, which costs slightly over $3, that would be roughly $600 million at least. Far more than enough to get Tumblr out of the red zone.

If we want tumblr to stay afloat and not change something as integral about their operating system, we need to show them they can be profitable without reducing themselves to common social media sites. What we have here is special. It is different. We are the social media site people run to when theirs collapses and for good reason.

If we want this to work, we have to make it work. We can even make it into a game. Just how long can we outlast the other social media sites?

Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying.

It needs to be a holiday. Pick a date a few weeks from now, and just make it Crab Day. Maybe a Saturday as a lot of people are paid on Fridays. Just in case this post becomes more popular than any I've had before, lets set the date as the last Saturday in July (which for us in 2023 will be July 29th.)

On July 29th, gift as many crabs as you can without breaking the bank. Post crab memes if you cannot afford a crab.

Tumblr can pull this off. Tumblr likes doing things like this.

You're right, it needs to be planned. Crab day it is.

THE BEGINNINGS OF KAWAII

No, no, you have no idea. It actually IS the beginning of the whole so-called “kawaii culture”. And it started because girls started using mechanical pencils, which provided fine handwriting. After being banished (more precisely, during the 80s), this kind of writing started being used in products like magazines and make-up. And, during this time, icons we usually associate with the whole kawaii industry (like the characters from Sanrio) came to life too.

And what many people don’t realize is that this subculture was born as a way for young girls to express themselves in their own way. And it was also used as something against the adult life and the traditional culture, often seen as dull and boring and oppressive. By embracing cuteness, these young girls (and adult women, after a while) were showing non-conformation with the current standards.

So yep. Kawaii is important, and it all started with cute, simple handwritting a few hearts and cat faces in some girls’ school notebooks <3

!!!!!

NO OK THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!

This is also how the kawaii fashions started! Girls began dressing in cute and off beat styles for themsleves, they were criticized by adult figures telling them “you’ll never find a husband if you dress that way!” to which they began to reply “Good!”

All the Japanese subcultures and fashions that evolved out of this became a rebellion to tradition and the starch gender roles and expectations the adults were forcing on the younger generations. As early as the 70s and still to this day you’ll see an emphasis on child-like fashion and themes in more kawaii styles and the dismissal of the male gaze with styles like lolita (a lot of western people assume lolita is somehow sexual due to the name of the fashion, but ask any Japanese lolita and they will tell you that men hate the style and find it unattractive which is sometimes a large reason they gravitate towards the style - they can express their femininity and individuality while remaining independent and without the pressure to appeal to men)

Its so so so important to understand the hyper cute and ‘odd’ fashions of Japanese girls carry such a huge message of feminism and reclaiming of their own lives.

so are you telling me that Japan’s punk phase was really the kawaii phase

I did not know this but I love this form of feminism!

Which is why you get bands like BABYMETAL, which toured with Judas Priest for a while, looking like this:

i know we're all sick of self-care being a marketing tactic now, but i don't think a lot of us have any other concept of self-care beyond what companies have tried to sell us, so i thought i'd share my favorite self-care hand out

brought to you by how mad i just got at a Target ad

OP this is EXCELLENT

Now THAT’S a self care resource! If you’ve gotten distracted by capitalism’s appropriation of “self-care” and watering the meaning down to nothing this is a super helpful guide to cut through the bullshit.

I'm convinced some people did not bother to read the botw diaries at all with what they think about Zelda and her relationship to Link so here:

Zelda's Diary:

Urbosa's Diary:

Later, after the champion inauguration (I am running out of image allowance here):

Daruk's Diary:

Mipha's diary, at risk of starting controversy:

Update: Oh man, y'all really didn't read them... Nintendo really needs to stop hiding information that is vital to understanding a character's mindset behind furniture in DLC. I recommend watching a youtube video of all of them being read, or on the wiki, because there is so many interesting bits of information.

I pretty much only put the parts here that are most relevant to Zelda's character and the development of her bond with Link, but there's much more!

For example, I didn't put Revali's here at all, which talks about his struggles to master his gale, and shows he originally wanted to be Link's friend, but just like Zelda, ended up projecting his own insecurities onto Link's silence. It also showed how he cared about Zelda as a friend (albeit worded in his tsundere birb way), appreciating the scarf she made for him and wishing the goddess would finally show her some mercy. It makes him at least slightly less of a jerk overall when you know that it was basically a defense mechanism or a front.

The indoctrination never stops.

Conservatives need a minority target to keep their followers focused/unified on hate. As the followers obsess on hate, their lives/emotions are much easier to manipulate.

Conservatives always vow to restore the country to some distant past that never existed.

It's an endless loop of failure.
