Riku’s beautiful conversation with Sakura Haruki that I think you guys can all learn from. This is a testament to scenario writer Tsushimi Bunta’s writing prowess. Enjoy!

Haruki: Do you have some time? I feel good today, so keep me company let’s chat for a bit.

Riku: Sure!

Haruki: Awesome. Being sick is boring.

Riku: I know how it feels. When I was a kid, I was in the hospital all the time.

Haruki: Is that so? Then we’ll get along really well.

Riku: Ehehe

Um... can I ask you something?

Haruki: Sure

Riku: What was Zero like?

Was he happy?

Haruki: He wasn’t that different from you guys. There were good times, and bad times. But I loved him.

Riku: Is that so...

Haruki: Why?

Riku: Earlier, I thought about what you told me.

Haruki: We’ll have it built near Tokyo station, and each staff gets their own aesthetic salon. We’ll give everyone’s friends and family elegant gifts, too. What else?

Riku: ... Would you please love us forever?

Haruki: All right. Everyone has sworn their love for you. From wedding songs to funeral songs, it’s all by IDOLiSH7. They’re with you. Anything else?

Riku: ... I don’t know.

I want everyone to recognize us, but now I’ve run out of things that I want.

Haruki: That’s right. Fame and fortune make people happy. It gives them power too, and the more they have it, the more they become insatiable.

But precisely because it’s insatiable, it’s stupid to waste your precious life running after it.

After you’ve given your all and realized “Oh, this wasn’t what I really wanted”, you’d be an old man already. Won’t you be disappointed?

Like making a huge piece of cheese, and hiding it in a hole just like a mouse. Even if it’s something that would make people think you’re a fool, it’s okay.

Riku: ... What makes me happy...

Haruki: Think about it thoroughly.

No expert in the world can solve this problem. Not your school teachers, not even your mom or dad, can decide it for you.

It’s the most important thing, and only you can find the answer.

Here’s one last question. It’s the exact opposite of everything we’ve talked about until now.

You have nothing, and the whole world hates you. You have no place to live, and you look shabby, but there’s something you want to do. Do you have someone who will help you?

Riku: ...

... I do...

Someone will definitely be there lend a helping hand.

Even if I were to become like that and they don’t get anything in return, there are still people who will stay by my side and help me.

Haruki: They’re wonderful people, aren’t they? They see the real you, and love you just the way you are.

Riku: Yes...

Haruki: What would you ask them to do?

Riku: ... I’d ask them, “Please sing with me.”

Haruki: That’s amazing. Even after losing everything, you still have someone who will never leave you. And despite everything, there’s something you still want to do.

T/N: I love how the narrative emphasizes over and over again how much singing means to Riku. But this whole conversation, with a man who shares not just his love for music and also the life of someone with a frail health, gives a whole new and much deeper meaning to it. Also...

I just about broke down at this line. The way Riku said this with such conviction is what makes this boy so fragile and so strong at the same time. He’s been through a lot as a kid, but if you go back to his previous lines, Riku has told others how precisely because he was a sickly kid, he has seen so much kindness from people. So much so, this kid believes with all his heart that there is kindness in everyone.

Momoko: This is the most beautiful moment I can cry
