The difference is Butch no longer owns the rights to DP, Nickelodeon does. Nick famously doesn’t do royalties the way other networks do, and on top of that, Butch severed ties with Nickelodeon several years ago.
The graphic novel was fully written and illustrated by Gabriela Epstein, a queer artist/writer, and the only credit he gets at all on the copyright page is basically “based on the show created by” him. So though it’s unclear, it is very unlikely that he makes anything off the IP, especially this new graphic novel.

Living in Whitestone during C1 events must be WILD. Imagine this: The town goes to shit bc of a necromancer and her steamy vampire husband killing the nobles. Years later, two of those nobles show up again and beat the everyloving shit out of them with the help of a very… colorful cast of characters. The long lost lord (and heir) to your city regularly skips town with the aforementioned group (who turn out to be mercenaries) for extended periods of time to save the world, only to show back up to get drunk and terrorize the locals (Grog and Scanlan lol). They leave to slay some dragons, and the lord shows up DEAD like, a week later (for seemingly un-dragon related reasons) but is totally fine and back to doing meetings the next morning. Everyone knows that he’s banging at least one of the halve-elves, but no one can agree which.
One of my favourite things about hanging out in the trans community is how it has and will continue to slowly erode my ability to blend into cishet dominated social settings. I'm just fundamentally on different wires now, and that's great because I never liked those social settings anyway

Unpopular opinion: not everything that makes you uncomfortable is bad. Sometimes discomfort means your worldview is being challenged. It’s okay to sit with discomfort and think about where it’s coming from.
