Book Thoughts
It may have been a while if ever that I have posted anything here, but I guess I just felt like putting my thoughts down about the new book I'm reading. It doesn't really matter to me if anyone reads this, I just wanted to be able to have a place for my thoughts as I am reading this book. So here goes, my thoughts will be mixed with quotes and thoughts chapter by chapter. Let me introduce the book before getting too carried away.
First a story, I found this book at a second hand bookstore in Oregon while on vacation with my dad, originally the title struck me first but then seeing it was about myths and stories of Wild Women I had to get it being a lover of myths, fairytales, and stories in general. The book called Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype would be classified I suppose as maybe self-help? Maybe a bit of non-fiction, but also elements of research and analysis, so it doesn't really fit into any genre. Which is kind of perfect considering it's entire premise is on detailing how stories and myths depict the Wild Women Archetype which by definition defies definciiton (wow good alliteration there and completely not intended). Now back to the book, it is written by a woman with a doctorate so we know it will be well researched and well written and it is. The amount of markers, underlining, and comments in the margins is becoming astronomical, hence these posts to help me organize and voice my thoughts.
For any curious here is the cover of my edition as well as the blurb from the publisher.
Blurb From Publisher
In Women Who Run with the Wolves, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, folk tales, and stories, many from her own traditions, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature. Through the stories and commentaries in this remarkable book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman, and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine.
Well there it is, there's the start of these posts, I'll try to update often with my thoughts as I read through it and I guess enjoy and join me if you'd like. Thanks for listening.
