*imagines a world where the contributions of all three members of the golden trio are acknowledged and not just hermione’s* nice

what the hell did ron do

Are you blessed kidding me? Let’s run down through the list:

  • In Year One, he accompanied Harry through the trapdoor and ultimately sacrificed himself in a very dangerous game of chess because he understood it was Harry that needed to go on and face who they thought would be Snape.
  • In Year Two, despite being incredibly phobic, he willingly walked into a forest full of giant spiders with Harry to try and get answers that would help clear a wrongly accused friend’s name.
  • In Year Three when they all thought Sirius Black was a murderous raving lunatic, Ron Weasley stood in front of Harry Potter on a broken leg and declared that if Sirius wanted to kill Harry, Sirius would have to get past him.
  • In Year Four, after a rough patch, he dedicates himself to helping Harry prepare for tasks in the Triwizard Tournament. He also was Harry’s “thing he’d miss most”, so clearly Harry thinks he’s important.
  • In Year Five, when everyone else was denouncing Harry, Ron Weasley stood up for his best friend. Loudly. He also very much participated in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.
  • In Year Six, he participated in the battle against the intruding Death Eaters Draco helped into the castle.
  • In Year Seven, instead of going back to school, he left his family and all the comforts of home to accompany Harry on a grueling months-long hunt for horcruxes. Yes, he left, but he immediately regretted it and the only reason he didn’t return sooner was because he blessed couldn’t. He put so much energy into making it up to both Harry and Hermione. He also, y’know, destroyed a horcrux. No big deal, though, right?

Then we have the little things, such as:

  • Opening his home and entire family to Harry
  • Aiding in rescuing Harry from the Dursleys multiple summers so his best friend wouldn’t be miserable
  • Took up for Hermione when Snape called her an insufferable know-it-all
  • Remembering the basilisk fangs when they were panicking over how to destroy horcruxes without the sword
  • Having the advantage of a deeper understanding of the wizarding world and its politics because he grew up in it, where Harry and Hermione did not
  • Being desperate to get to Hermione when Bellatrix was torturing her in Malfoy Manor
  • Putting his shoes on Dobby for Dobby to be buried in because he knew how much Dobby loved clothes
  • Being the ebullient force the Trio needed. Hermione was a very serious character and Harry had a lot on him throughout all seven books. Ron provided comic relief and made it easier for both of his friends to breathe in dangerous or stressful situations. In many ways, Ronald Bilius Weasley is their glue. That’s what Ron did. He helped them function. Maybe don’t undermine what he brought to the story just because you personally dislike his character.

For the anon who asked for my opinion on Ron Weasley, here it is. Not in the way I expected to present it, but still.
