Sentencing a guy to prison and then making him pay 30% off of his income for the rest of his working life is literal slavery. Nintendo is evil and we should pirate more.

I agree with this sentiment in its entirety but the dude they came down on was known for creating ransomware and bricking people's consoles.

This isn't "Nintendo picking on the little guy", so much as a small evil guy stepping on the toes of a much bigger evil guy and getting slapped.

Avatar

That doesn't matter, the dude worked for the pr team and had the least malicious involvement in the development. Furthermore, he wasn't hit primarily on the basis of the ransomware. Hell, even if he was leading the development, it'd still be unjust. The people who had their switches bricked were never compensated, because Nintendo doesn't give a shit about their consumers and only wants to make profit.

What Nintendo did shows what sort of punitive measures they will take to ensure that nobody pirate their games. Indentured servitude is absolutely cruel and unjust, no ifs; no buts.

at the end of the day, "don't enslave people" is a pretty easy moral philosophy to hold firm on without caveats

the guy could have personally broken into people's homes and destroyed their consoles with his bare hands and I'd still argue that a lifetime of forced labour isn't a remotely just punishment for it

the uncommon allergy haver to anticapitalist pipeline

in January 2023, companies became required to label sesame on all products it was present in, and undergo rigorous cleaning procedures to prevent sesame contamination, after it was declared the 9th "major" food allergen in the United States.

so, instead of considering this a mandate to give a single shit about people with sesame allergies, almost all American companies decided to just add sesame flour to all their relevant products. because apparently that was cheaper.

it's almost impossible for me to find hot dog and hamburger buns without sesame now. and I am one of the lucky ones. I'm someone who just so happened to notice the label updates, not get caught unawares and have a severe allergic reaction. I'm someone lucky enough to be surrounded by multiple choices of supermarkets, and someone with the incredible privilege to have parents who'll help me search the shelves, and cover those costs that my allergies rack up. not everyone with allergies/other intolerances has all or any of those privileges to begin with.

most food allergies will never be prevalent enough that under capitalism, it will be profitable to give them the level of accommodation that they deserve. I speak from experience with a wide portfolio of hypersensitivity quirks when I say that the rarer the food allergy, the worse it gets.

and here's the thing: I can live without hamburger buns, with only superficial decreases in my quality of life. but sesame isn't my only rare allergy, and ever since this legislation hit, I've been lying awake at night, afraid of what I might lose access to next.

I've been lying awake at night wondering what I'll have to do to live, to obtain enough safe food to survive, if any of my other allergies get this same treatment. and I reiterate. I am one of the privlidged ones.

what these companies have done is completely legal. what these companies did has also cut off up to over a million people from what were previously safe, affordable staples of their diets. a system that has any incentive not to accommodate the dietary needs of any population is not a system that can be allowed to exist. this is the uncommon allergy haver to angry, fuming anticapitalist pipeline.

[Image description: two screenshots of tumblr tags, reading:

"also pea protein. mcdicks just added pea protein without any proper warning so if you got a legume allergy, don't eat their buns."

"did you know pea protein and pea flour is a thing. i didn't. but i sure found out quick after i ate frozen nuggets and when i got gravy from a restaurant. now i have to check fucking everything because i've also found pea protein in ice cream of all things." End description.]

thank you @butchwelddone and @insidejupiter respectively for these psas. signal boosting here for all my fellow legume-allergic folks, stay safe (and stay away from McDonalds buns)

start normalizing long hair as androgynous. long hair can be gender-neutral too.

tired of seeing nonbinary characters & fashion with short, dyed hair. give me long-haired enbies or give me death

it could be. you have the power to make this happen. but you won't. coward.

At 40k notes, I can definitely say, it reads more like a 100k post.

never say that to me

If companies are allowed to sue you for losses during a strike, there is now no longer an incentive to not simply burn down your place of work.

For most people, there's really no difference between say, 15,000$ of debt, and 200,000$ of debt. They are equally life-ruining sums of money. Why not, you know, leave that gas stove on? Cost the company some real money? Maybe if it happens enough times they won't be able to buy insurance.

One of my favorite things about rewatching Cowboy Bebop is seeing all these one-line characters that you instantly know everything about from how they decorate their tiny box in space.

You guys need some healthy dose of music guy elitism snobbery actually its so annoying seeing people in their 20s unironically calling shit like Taylor Swift 'goth girl music' 'weird ferals hoe scaring music' without a hint of embarassement. Literally u deserve a bunch of rym pretentious dudebros to kidnap u to explain the difference between grindcore and powerviolence for 12hrs straight for this clownery i cant take it anymore

I wish octopus could learn how to read. They could be pen pals with middle schoolers.

Dearest Samantha, I do not know what a guinea pig is, but it sounds delicious. I hope you have fun devouring it, or playing with it, if that is your preference. Today I hacked a local computer to get more bubbles in my tank and took a photograph of an unsuspecting victim. Do let me know how your human activities are going. And if this "Karen" continues to antagonize your brother, I would suggest smacking her very hard. And do send more canned snacks. Best Wishes, Octopus #5, Monterrey bay research aquarium

The thing blue state leftists don’t seem to understand about red states is that telling minorities to “just leave” is really insidious. That is exactly what the republicans want. They want to make their state so miserable and dangerous and scary for everyone who isn’t a conservative cisgender heterosexual white Christian that those people leave. Leave behind their family, their homes, their friends, their jobs, their community, the places they’ve lived their entire life. With every person who leaves it is one less gay person teaching their children, one less person protesting outside the capitol, one less blue voter trying to stop the place they call home from sliding into fascism.

Many of us cannot afford to ‘just leave’ and many of us don’t want to because contrary to popular belief, North Carolina isn’t an irredeemable shithole with nothing to offer and no sense of community. People do leave red states for their safety but that does not fix the underlying problem, that doesn’t even make the problem better.

Fun fact! We don't actually know that's what the Pacific ocean looks like because we can't get imaging deep enough to actually check. This model is simply assuming the ocean floor is there due to projections based on the bits we can get to. And I think that's fun.

Avatar

We’ve known what the floor of the pacific looks like for decades.

This is from a nat geo in 1969. We’ve done sonar imaging of the two deepest points in the Marianas Trench and sent multiple exploration vehicles into the trench. James Cameron has sent exploration vehicles into the marianas trench ffs. If we can explore the deepest trench in the pacific then we can get imaging of the rest of it.

Y’all really just get on tumblr dot com see a post and go “I think I will lie today.” don’t ya.

ALSO

The original image?

That's now what the Earth would look like without water.

That map up there has extreme vertical exaggeration added to it.

Now look at this diagram:

You see this? You see how smooth it is? You see how you can barely even see the continents?

Continental crust is upwards of 40km thick. You see the upper mantle/aesthenosphere? That's 660km. You think 40km is gonna look like ANYTHING compared to that?

It doesn't.

Yeah. The Earth is fucking big and continents and mountains are piddly and small compared to the diameter of the Earth.
