Anais On Set

@anaisforthewin / anaisforthewin.tumblr.com

Hi! I'm Anais. I haven't seen a lot of important/classic television or movies and I feel that's putting me at a detriment. So, to make up for this I am going to watch them, and review them! Check out my "Finished" page to see what shows I have...

every time i hear jefferson say “i arranged the menu, the venue, the seating” i picture him spending a solid 3 hours trying to decide if he wants madison sitting to his left or to his right and just rearranging 3 placecards over and over

and then hamilton comes in, sits in madison’s seat and swaps the name cards

So ABC Passed on the Most Wanted pilot. For a pilot that hasn’t been seen by the public it has decent hype and following. For ABC to pass on it feels almost rude.  This means a call to action. Type 1: ABC If we put enough word out there maybe we can get them to reconsider the pass, or bring back the duo to SHIELD.  Go to the ABC Feedback page to leave your opinion. http://abc.go.com/feedback Type 2: Netflix A lot of times writers shop their show around to other networks after a pass. Marvel has a good history with Netflix, and probably a contract or something, So I wrote to them about it. You don’t even need to be a member to write to them. Even say “I’ll join Netflix if you pick up Most Wanted.” Sure its only a tech support person, but they are friendly and hopefully will tell their bosses. With a loud enough voice and standing together we can be heard.  https://help.netflix.com/contactus?locale=en-US ABC really let us down and I’m not prepared to go down without a fight.

why people in the united states should care about the upcoming canadian election

america’s election isn’t until november 2016, but tumblr is already blowing up about it. i agree that it’s absolutely important, but no one seems to care that canada’s federal election is this october. tumblr is extremely united states-centric, but canadian politics affect americans too.

issues not directly related to the united states, but still extremely important:

I’ve been pondering Paul Magr’s blog post about RTD and talking about Mary Sues and self-inserts. Because I am generally very much behind what Russell is saying there: it’s always you in there when you write anyway, and if you want to go ahead and write yourself into the story, have at it. There’s no shame in it. The way “Mary Sue” is deployed is misogynist about 99% of the time and I hate that term and I hate what it s use represents.

And I’m trying to square that with the fact that one of the things I hate about Moffat is his self-inserting in the form of Eleven and Sherlock (I mean, that has to be why they’re basically the same character, right?). And I think the difference for me is that what Moffat is doing comes off as a shallow power-fantasy. Which I’m not going to tell anyone they can’t write and put out there, but I’m not going to enjoy it. And it’s really not helped by Moffat’s power fantasy being a sexually aggressive, emotionally stunted creeper that everyone is inexplicably in love with. I’d be more into it if his power fantasy was an honest, brave, compassionate hero buuuuut it’s clearly really not. Writing a self-insert starts to break down at the point where your self-insert is a loathsome individual rather than a flawless hero. (Bonus negative points if your text seems blissfully unaware of the loathsomeness. At that point we enter the realm of “I think I might know more about your deep issues than your therapist, and that ain’t right, man.”)

I always got the feeling from RTD’s writing that he had a message he was trying to deliver. A message about the human condition, love, hope, how we deal with one another, and how we deal with deities. It’s his message and in that way he’s self-inserting in everything he does. And if he has certain characters be mouth-pieces for that, they retain their interest because those are interesting things to talk about and ponder through fiction.

But if you don’t have a message beyond “I AM AWESOME!” then your self-inserting is boring and shallow. If you’re just ficcing for fun or practice? Have at it. There are many worse things for a fic to be than boring and shallow. (Also? Everyone does this when they are 12. It’s a stage of creative growth and you can all thank your lucky stars that the internet did not exist when I was 12 and writing self-insert LOTR fic. So not only is “Mary Sue” usually  misogynist, it’s also often picking on actualfax kids, which is doubleplus awful.)

But if you’re a grown-ass man and a highly-paid professional with an inexplicable amount of power in the TV industry in your country? And you want me to be interested in viewing your little self-insert power fantasy whose only message is “Look how awesome I would be if I were handsomer and younger and powered-up”?

our President told a trans immigrant activist to be quiet during a statement about Pride Week

no analogy here, I’m sure

she is an undocumented trans woman from mexico and her name is Jennicet Gutiérrez. obama not only told her to be quiet, but he had her escorted from the white house by secret service officers while his mindless supporters cheered.

I went and did some research on this, and this is what I found.

–Obama was giving a speech during an event celebrating L.G.B.T. pride month, where he was repeatedly interrupted by Jennicet Gutiérrez.

– Gutiérrez’s words were “President Obama, release all L.G.B.T.Q. immigrants from detention and stop all deportations!” which is something Obama has been trying to do (via blocking a large amount of deportations entirely, which would affect L.G.B.T. immigrants as well) but has been repeatedly blocked by both republicans in congress and judges in the border states where this is especially relevant.

– Gutiérrez continued to interrupt Obama for nearly two minutes before she was removed from the White House. From this transcript I can see Obama even outright told her that “You can either stay and be quiet, or we’ll have to take you out.“ And then she kept going. And she was removed.

do ur research folks

Hey, Just a few things. I was there when this happened. It was at a the LGBT Pride Reception. This was an invitation only event for members of the community and allies, who had done substantial work for the community. I.E. Lobbyist, Activists, Heads of LGBT Democratic Committees, etc. My friend was invited because he was the youngest, openly gay state representative elected in the US. (I was his plus one.) Jennicet Gutierrez was escorted out because she used this opportunity to heckle the president. Heckle. As Obama said, “No, no no. You came into my house, and you were invited.” Both the President AND the crowd asked her to quiet down. She was only escorted out after she INSISTED on interrupting the event.

Hadn’t heard this side, only that she’d spoken up and got taken out. Makes more sense cause that didn’t mesh with what I know of Obama. So, good to know.

some good facts on what happened.
