i think one of the most insidious forms of ableism is the idea that if one disabled person can do something then other people with the same disability can do the same thing because it often comes from other disabled people.

there was a thread on twitter about how, often, people with adhd struggle to learn new languages and the qrts were filled with tweets like this:

and the thing is. this is ableist. it just is.

while experiences aren't universal, people with adhd - a neurodevelopmental disability - do struggle with learning new languages. so the idea that because one person with a disability can do something, that others should be able to is just inaccurate and hurts people with disabilities. it contributes to the idea that disabled people just aren't 'trying hard enough' and on a wider scale, it convinces abled people that accommodations for disabled people aren't necessary because 'they could do it, why can't you?'

it's a really harmful and ableist mentality that hurts disabled people.

this goes beyond neurodevelopmental disabilities and neurodivergence. as someone who is also physically disabled, you hear this kind of thing all the time. stories about how so-and-so knows someone with the same disability and they can do this so why can't you?

it creates this idea that disabled people have to perform to a certain level unless they're just not 'trying hard enough' and that anyone doesn't is a sort of failure.

we're not all the same. disabilities vary! certain people struggle more with certain things than others! and it's really shitty and flat out ableism to go 'well i can do this so what's your excuse' as if someone's disability isn't valid if it's not exactly the same as yours.

can i just say q essentially done what q fans wanted dream to do by mandating all these lore thibgs and commitments to the server and it’s just making everyone have a bad time . like they (and other creators) tore dream to shreds for letting ppl do their own thing but turns out when you promise people minecraft and sign them up to mandatory lore everyone hates it . half the streamers stopped playing and the fanbase are literally insane like they need professional help bc it’s not normal behaviour at all
