I hate the theist argument of “oh you’re an atheist? so you believe everything came from nothing?” like no you dumbass that isn’t even what the Big Bang theory is. The Big Bang theory is just a theoretical explanation for something we can observe, that 1) the universe is infinitely expanding and cooling and 2) if we look forward in time, we can assume it will continue to do so indefinitely and 3) looking backward in time it appears it has been doing so for as far back as we can see while getting hotter and smaller until smaller than an atom.

We literally can’t look back more than that because it is too small for us to see. We don’t say the matter came from nothing, we simply don’t know where it came from. We do not have adequate physics to look back further than we already have which is already about 13-14 billion years. It’s very possible our math is wrong. Maybe we are mistaking physics for something else or perhaps we just don’t understand the laws of physics that we would have to understand to get a more detailed picture of such a microscopic point… our data is limited and it is not like we can simply recreate this event and study it in a lab. Where science gives you an honest answer of “I do not know yet”, theism just chalks up what is difficult to understand to “therefore God!”
