April Challenge: Poetry + Art
On the First Friday of each month, we post a challenge that anyone, any age, any skill level, and any amount of inspiration can complete. Get creative, have fun, and send your submission to us with as much or as little background and personal information as you wish.
The Challenge:
Have you ever read a poem about a work of art that changed the way you viewed the work? Or sat and really looked at painting or sculpture and the most complex emotions somehow formed into language? Poetry and art just go together, and this month VMFA and James River Writers are excited to celebrate their lasting bond.
I want to do something! What should I do?
1. Check out Monet’s Camille at the Window, Argenteuil (1873) either at the museum or through our Impressionism Guide. 2. Write a haiku inspired by the piece. 3. Submit your poem at vmfaeducation.tumblr.com/submit.
We will post our most inspired pieces every Thursday in April! (If Monet and haiku do not inspire you, follow your instincts. Be bold! Be creative!) And, of course, continue to be inspired by artists and writers who have found magic in the art of the flower.
