Tumblr Adult Content Ban
So I’d like to speak up and just say…
Fuck you, tumblr. Fuck Apple, too, but tumblr is the company who is taking away the actual community tools.
And fuck you tumblr, for saying that women’s nipples are too impure for your platform, but I can write all the sex I want and that’s fine. I’m not okay with that. I don’t think it’s acceptable in the least. If you wanna ban adult content, just ban all of it.
I won’t be using tumblr after that date if the ban goes through. We don’t need to be supporting puritanical platforms.
Tumblr is saying it’s time that we moved on.
So let’s move on.
I hope everyone frustrated by this change who wasn’t already knee-deep in Discourse will remember how a basically porn-funded website decided to treat sex workers and consider how this might reflect the treatment of sex workers overall in the world. Hold senators and representatives accountable for this stuff, not just companies.
Remember: Only two US senators voted against SESTA. If you’re American, and you don’t live in Oregon or Kentucky, ask your senators why they voted for it. (heck, if you’re in Oregon or Kentucky, still ask, since states get two senators!)
Basically, Tumblr and Paypal and Patreon cracking down on sex workers is part of a big, ugly pattern. It’s never gonna change until we stop putting up with the degradation of sex workers in our society—whether it’s a mean old Republican grandpa doing it, or a hip, liberal sitcom.
