“Toxic masculinity” is a sexist term with no female equivalent used to (sort of) address issues men face but also blaming men only for it. “Toxic masculinity” is hust another word for “gender roles” that society (including women) enforce.

I want to tell a very interesting thing about Thai translation of The Lord of the Rings, there are many things I want to talk about! The old Thai translation is the version I grow up reading, the language used is funny, and I want to talk about the word they used for “The Witch King” 8D

The translator used the word “พญาโหงพราย” (Pya Hong Prai) to call The Witch King, which i find very interesting ;w; พญาโหงพราย has 2 major word in it, Pya (พญา) and Hong Prai (โหงพราย) Hong Prai is a type of Saiyasat (ไสยศาสตร์), or Thai-Khmer black magic involving necromancy. Hong is a soul of people who die a sudden or unnatural death, Prai simply means ghost/nymph/non-human being (Which is a word used for “Elf” too!) A necromancer who is powerful enough (in this case, Sauron) can trap those souls and bind them to himself to do various job for him, ex. A Hong spirit of someone who were once a murderer can be used in doing murder job, or a Hong spirit of someone who used to have lot of lovers can be used to manipulate a person to fall in love. Hong Prai is the word used for all Nazguls too. But the word Pya Hong Prai is used only with the Witch King, because Pya  means  ‘king of___’ (if you put Pya (พญา) in google translate, it will not translate for you because the word is in Sanskrit and not Thai) It’s not surprise that the translator used the word, as black magic and necromancy is still somewhat common in Thailand and Cambodia, even in urban life, if you know where to look and know a black magic works when you saw one. I encountered lot of those too (the lady next door have a Kuman Thong, a type of necromancy using unborn baby’s spirit).To the translator’s understanding, Sauron is a necromancer and the closest thing to Nazgul he/she can think of is a Hong Prai. So yeah, Sauron have a Hong Prai :0

This Anthem article has put such a pit in my stomach all day. It’s always been easy to blame EA for everything gone wrong with BioWare but between this, and the article about Andromeda’s development, it’s pretty clear that EA is not the sole problem. Actually, they’re a minimal problem. I’m so hurt for the developers who spent 6 years waiting for answers and leadership to get it in the last two years and be forced to rush, for the people who had to find private rooms to cry in, or who had to take “stress leave”, or wanted a game to fail so that people would see the way BioWare wants to make games just doesn’t work. Every week it’s a new company fucking up and showing their colors and how they wish to treat their employees. It was easy to blame EA, and see BioWare in a positive light but the moral I guess is that BioWare is a company and they have shown to mistreat their developers and failed from a leadership standpoint on multiple games now. Somethings got to change. So few people on tumblr get what it is to work in game development, but I hope they consider reading this article for what it says or even better, read MORE about game development and learn about the industry. The people who make games we love are suffering because of leadership and exploit and need help. If you love their work and love playing games, be vocal about these terrible work practices and abuses. Help them get unionized and don’t let companies - yes, even BioWare, not just EA - get away with harming their employees.
