Explain your reasoning plzzz

$1000 a day, that is more than enough to improve my standard of living comfortably and amass savings and investments that will net well more than $10 million over time, and with better tax implications.

Also, we know from countless unfortunate stories from lottery winners to MC Hammer that having a huge lump sum of money in the bank changes people’s thinking and can lead to reckless spending and giving. A moderate regular income would enable a higher level of generosity than I can currently maintain without enabling profligate financial behavior.

children existing in public spaces is genuinely like. necessary for the continuation of society. it doesnt have to be your kids you dont have to volunteer at a daycare or whatever but you need to be able to tolerate the presence of someone who is learning how to exist as a human and interact with people

If your unironic response to post like this involves the idea of “hating” children, please reassess your entire existence. It’s not OK to hate a group of people for their innate characteristics, no matter what those characteristics are. And I don’t think you’d ever openly admit to hating people based on their race, disability, gender or sexuality, so why do you feel so free to openly admit to hating people based on their age?

(This is also true if you hate older people based on their age.)

The US News Media since 2022: "Covid's over! Drop the masks! What's the best way to cough on strangers? Heartwarming: Celebrity tells new mothers to use urine instead of MMR vaccine!"

The US News today:

Please fucking read the shit I posted at least...

"According to media reports, these FLiRT variants, which include KP.2, are marked by mutations identified by the letters F, L, R, and T in their genetic codes." The little 'i' represents a genetic omission.

Americans, these are things we are NOT saying in 2024:

“Voting blue won’t solve anything.” Yes it will: if enough of us do it, it will solve a problem called Trump’s second term in the White House. We unfortunately live in a two-party system. If you refuse to vote, you’re effectively voting for Trump. I shouldn’t need to explain this to people, yet here we are.

“It doesn’t matter who’s president. Both candidates are the same anyway.” No, they are REALLY not. Biden was never my first choice, and his shipments of arms to Israel are despicable, but don’t try to tell me even for a second that a second Trump term would be the same for the world as a second Biden term.

“But voting blue won’t fix [fundamental underlying problem in America].” Voting for Democrats cannot fix every issue, this is true. But by saying this and ONLY this you are discouraging people from voting by making them feel hopeless. Voting is one of many tools in our arsenal, not the only tool, but an important one, and it does matter.

“You shouldn’t vote blue, you should do [other thing] instead.” See above: you can vote and protest and organize at the same time. It’s not either/or. You can do it all. Stop discouraging voters from exercising their rights under the guise of leftism.

“Voting is just legitimizing government power. It makes you part of the system.” Literally just shut up. Women and people of color didn’t fight for their voting rights to have you say things like this. If you live in America and you can legally vote, then you should fucking vote, and vote blue. There is no neutral option.

“Voting blue just makes you complicit in [this bad policy].” Inaction, and allowing Trump to have a second term, is worse for the entire world than any Democrat policy. Yes, even that one. Voting is not about finding a perfect unproblematic candidate. It is about choosing the lesser of two evils.

“Voting doesn’t work because—” STOP IT. STOP DISCOURAGING PEOPLE FROM VOTING.

You know who wants you NOT to vote? Trump supporters, that’s who. You should be suspicious of ANYONE who is suggesting that your vote doesn’t matter, or that both candidates are the same, or that Biden’s policy on XYZ means you shouldn’t vote for him. Trump supporters aren’t trying to get your vote by saying, “Vote for Trump!” They’re trying to get your vote by DISCOURAGING YOU FROM VOTING AT ALL.

I don’t like Biden either, but Trump is unequivocally worse. Voting doesn’t fix everything, but it is the minimum fucking requirement of living in a democracy. Voting for president has real, tangible, immediate impacts on people’s lives, and choosing not to vote is not the rebellion you think it is, it is just relinquishing your voice. So fucking vote. THIS IS A GROUP PROJECT AND DAMN IT WE ARE NOT FAILING BECAUSE OF YOU.

Reblogging this again in honor of the dipshit in my notes crying and screaming about things I did not say. “Why do you like Biden why are you saying he’s good” I don’t. Says it right there in the post. “But voting won’t fix everything” I know. Says it right there in the post. “Voting is the bare minimum” Amazing! Says that in the post too. “Why aren’t you telling people to do things beside vote” I literally did. Read the fucking post.

If you don’t like Biden’s support for Israel, you should know that it is nothing compared to Trump’s support for Israel, and the Republican Party in general. And they are using American influence in entirely different ways.

Biden: “Israel is our ally, and we support our allies. However, let’s talk behind the scenes and use our material support to put pressure on them to stop their part of the violence and come to a viable peace agreement.”

Trump: “Fuck yeah, genocide is awesome! Let’s kill all the brown people! Let’s kill all the Muslims! I’m going to give you everything you could ever want with no strings!” Trump is supported by Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians, who believe in the Rapture, which is a completely whacked interpretation of Revelation in which, for Jesus to come back, Israel has to be destroyed and all Jews killed, except that God will kill all the people who destroy Israel. Therefore, Rapture believers want someone else (preferably Muslims) to destroy Israel and commit genocide against Jews, so that both Jews and Muslims will be wiped out.

Those are your two choices.

On the one hand, a guy who stands by Israel politically and militarily but is also advocating for justice and peace behind the scenes, or a guy who is 100% ride-or-die for the worst of Netanyahu’s violence and backed by people who are hoping to use this to create more genocide in the future.

And if you say “well, I just won’t vote,” you are contributing to the victory of the guy who is vocally pro-genocide.

I recently saw a post trying to discourage votes for Biden by revealing things that have happened under Biden. However I’ve noticed people doing that never seem to want to discuss the problem or policy under Republicans.

The post revealed the large number of immigrants deported under Biden. What the poster was careful not to point out is that Republicans consider only deporting several hundred thousand people to be an “Open Door” policy they need to fix by sending everyone back and slamming the door shut.

Biden hasn’t fixed abortion rights. Oh, you mean those rights Trump succeeded in destroying by stacking the Supreme Court with conservative judges who lied about not revoking Rowe vs Wade. Do you think conservatives are happy with States being able to decide to protect abortion? Do you think they aren’t working to change that?

Israel. See the post above on the rapture. Understand how deeply help that belief is. I had an elderly neighbor who used to donate $25 a week to her church so they would have enough money to send Jewish people back to Israel for the end times.

Look, if the Republicans take the House, Senate and Presidency, you will learn far too quickly and sadly how badly you’ve been decieived.

You are voting for every Democrat on that ballot purely as a matter of survival.

The inclination toward not voting, or voting for unelectable third party candidates because Biden, the Democrats or government generally isn’t doing exactly what you want, the way you want and when is an indulgence you need to have put behind you because it doesn’t meet the moment.

You aren’t voting to craft your ideal government. You’re voting to craft the government that will move us closer to where you want us to be — and even if it isn’t much closer, no one can afford to be moved further away.

I am so fucking outraged. Look at these pro-hamas terrorist supporters at Columbia university harassing our Jewish brother. They didn’t ask his beliefs or if he was a Zionist. They simply took one look at him and assessed that he was a Jew so they surrounded and harassed him. Don’t any of you EVER tell me it’s “anti-Zionism not antisemitism”. We are now approaching 1940’s Germany level of antisemitism. I am sick to my fucking stomach. Daven for his well being and mental health.

Let’s be abundantly clear: even if he were the loudest and most outspoken proponent of Zionism on the campus, even if he were an Israeli, this would not be acceptable. This is violent, antisemitic behavior, end of.

Avatar

We’ve been hearing report after report of antisemitism at encampment protests, video after video, photo after photo, documenting people being physically assaulted, threatened, having antisemitic vitriol yelled at them.

And then people have the audacity to say that we’re accusing people of antisemitism for “criticizing israel.” What an absolute barrel of horse shit

I think it's even wilder they keep pretending they're being peaceful.

These fucks don't know the meaning of the word, clearly.

I have never seen so many smart people completely turn off their critical thinking and announce things like “no one who has opposed student movements has ever been on the right side of history“ which is both factually and logically untrue.

I keep seeing the ever growing list of encampments being shared without any acknowledgment of the documented violence and destruction that has been a part of many of them.

Friends in academia have been posting things about protecting and supporting their students and applauding them for completing end of semester studies and finals while these protests are going on — by which they’re referring to students in the encampments only, not the Jewish students who have to avoid entire areas of their campuses to be safe, were prevented from entering buildings to get to their classes, have been accosted or assaulted, or were told to attend classes remotely for their safety.

Never in recorded history have educated people accepted the notion of the ends justifying the means, or the stated goals justifying the actions.

The rapid —and denied — radicalization of the American left is legitimately terrifying.

Previous similar drops in emissions were due to periods of economic stagnation or recession--this is the first significant drop in emissions that has coincided with GDP growth.

The majority of this decline is due to changes in energy use and generation. Coal demand has dropped nearly to 1900s levels, while use of renewables grows significantly--for the first time renewables accounted for half of the energy generated in "advanced economies" included in this analysis.

There should be a tag for where you’re both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel. Like, I hate Hamas and I want them to be dismantled and replaced with a non-terrorist organization. I hate the Israel government and it needs some SERIOUS fixing. I want the 2 state solution. I want the return of the hostages immediately. I want those who participated in October 7th to be punished. I want children in Gaza and Palestine to not be taught in preschool to want to kill Jews.

There should be a tag that encompasses all of that. That both deserve to exist.

#free Gaza from Hamas free Israel from Likud two state solution and brokered peace now

It’s a little long for a tag but it encompasses the salient points.

“But there are nuances to sadistic barbarity against Jews, we are told, and sometimes gang-raping Jewish women is actually a movement for human rights. It hardly seems fair to call people anti-Semitic if they want only half of the world’s Jews to die. The phrase “Globalize the Intifada,” currently chanted at universities across America, perhaps widens the net a tiny bit—but really, who can say? Even the phrase “Gas the Jews,” chanted at a rally organized by NYU students and faculty, is so very ambiguous. How dare those whiny Jews presume to know what’s in other people’s hearts? It remains unclear why anti-Semitism should matter only when it is lethal, or if so, how many unambiguously anti-Semitic murders would be necessary for anti-Semitism to be happening outside whiny Jews’ heads. A realistic estimate might be 6 million. Even then, Jews have had to spend the past 80 years collecting documentation to prove it.”

Bigots in leftist communities are usually not infiltrators or invaders purposefully trying to undermine your movement; they're usually just leftists with bigoted ideals from living in a bigoted society.

Framing all instances of bigotry in your community as coming from "somewhere else", from fakers or far-right agents or whatever, just lets you ignore your own bigoted ideals, the bigoted behavior of your friends and the people you like and trust, and your own complicity in it all.

"Don't let [insert bigots] piggyback off our movement!!" They aren't piggybacking, they're your friends, they're your allies, they're your community leaders, and they're you.

Avatar

There will always be people in a movement who have bigotry and harmful ideas that they have not unpacked yet. There will always be people in a movement who don’t even know that they need to unpack those things.

It is not a black mark on your movement to have people in it who aren’t perfect because no one is perfect. But when your movement does not correct people whose ideas are harmful, hateful or oppressive, that’s when it ultimately fails to be anything but a hate movement. That can only be blamed on those within the movement themselves.

I defy anyone to explain to me how spray painting slogans on the walls and the books of the library and breaking glass and making this facility unusable and unsafe did anything whatsoever, a single damned thing for a single Palestinian life.

What you do has to actually match the things you claim to want. Otherwise it’s just wasted time, wasted energy, wasted resources AND LIES.

The lying has got to stop.

Compassion check: Do you

  • Want an end to the violence that both sides find to be acceptable (or at least they can live with the compromise), even if it isn't your ideal perfect solution?
  • Want as few people to die as possible, even the people on the "wrong side"?
  • Accept that you may need to put aside your own views and biases and prioritize what the people you're advocating for are actually asking?
  • Understand that your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and your self-understanding of your motives are less important than other people's actual lives?
  • Accept that you will need to take the time to empathize with the "enemy" in order to understand what they actually want, need, think, and feel in order to situate your responses in relationship to that reality?
  • Accept that if there is a solution that lifts up both peoples and allows everyone to move forward in a mutually beneficial way, you should throw your whole weight behind it because it'll help the people you're advocating for, even if it helps the "enemy" side too?
  • Understand and accept that you cannot rewrite or undo history, but you can help people move forward and make an active choice to prioritize forward thinking?
  • Know and have sat with the facts on the ground, have verified them from friendly and unfriendly sources, and are willing to acknowledge the truth of inconvenient facts and other people's truths in addition to your own?
  • Understand and accept that you not only should, but must call out poor behavior and bad actors in your movement in order to preserve its integrity?

If so, then maybe you're ready to be an activist on behalf of another group. If not, you are neither mature enough nor compassionate enough to act as an effective advocate and/or mediator.

Trying to not despair over how many USAmericans of all ages seriously do not understand how the branches of government work and how a large percentage of what they point to Biden alone doing is actually stuff pushed through by the House and also by majority the GOP members of the House. (Of course, they're also blaming Biden for the way colleges are calling the cops and the cops' behavior which is even wilder.)

And also ofc the legal fuckery of the Supreme Court which unless Biden can expand how many judges are on it, (which I don't think he can do all by himself,) is also all due to judges nominated by the GOP.

Can everyone who's despairing or saying both are just as bad please do some research on how the government even works and who passes what sort of budget or legislation? And then look at who is voting for and against the stuff thy dislike and see what side is doing more of each?

Biden's not an angel, nor are any other democrats in office but they also are blocked and barricaded every chance the GOP gets while trying to promote even a little change to the left, and then people get mad that they I guess 'let' themselves be outvoted.

I am just so tired.

Friendly Certified Tumblr Old Person™️ here:

If you were my age or just slightly younger, then you would have had a class, somewhere between 6-8 grades in most places, called either civics or American government. In that class, you would have learned everything about how federal, state and local governments are arranged, the differences between those levels and between the branches of government.

You would have learned these things to become an informed citizen and an informed voter.

The reasons why a class like that doesn’t exist in most schools right now is the topic of another post. What’s important is this:

Basic information about how to exist with understanding in our country was withheld from you but you still need to be informed.

The good thing is that everything you need to know is available to you online. You can be seriously academic about it with Khan Academy. You can read study guides designed for those preparing to take the test to become naturalized US citizens. Or you could watch well done videos about it.

But whatever you do, don’t just keep moving through life without learning.
