The leap back

@alziggy / alziggy.tumblr.com

I'm a great fan of Quantum leap and Dean Stockwell/Al Calavicci!! Also Sam Beckett/Scott Bakula!!

Since we have this #metoo movement & feminism issue happening in the world and on social media, then I wonder if the episodes What Price Gloria? (1989), Raped (1991) and Liberation (1993) would've worked today than back then.

Sure it may have been an embarrassment for him but at least Sam Beckett never wore blackface in the episodes The Color of Truth and A Song for the Soul.

If their was a Quantum Leap parody on Family Guy, I can't imagine Glen Quagmire jumping into the body of a 20 year old teenage girl by admiring and feeling himself up in the mirror. 1.) he's a perv and 2.) It's too creepy of an image for me.

For the Love of Dean Stockwell

A brilliant actor can accomplish things that even HE is not aware of. Not the least of which is inspiring meaningful friendships. Because of my unending love and appreciation for Dean, I found the creator of this tribute video, as well as so many more. We come from different parts of the world, and don’t even speak the same language. And yet his brilliance has cemented our friendship for over two years and counting! For that reason, and countless others, I’d like to say:

Thank you, Dean. ❤️😌😌❤️ https://youtu.be/8e-286bEkcM

Thank you Dean Girl et thank you Dean, without you I would never have discovered a friend like her who loves you as much as I do. <3 <3 <3

More Love for Dean Stockwell

The same thing I said about my dear friend “Allie Girl” is abundantly true of the Admin for these four wonderful Fan Pages… except for the not speaking the same language part. In this case, we do. But I’m still every bit as grateful to the Legend who brought us together!

The Callous Years

I’m angry! Before I get into why, let me just preface this tirade by telling you how incredibly nerve wracking this is. I know I run the risk of infuriating a specific group of fans, but this has been bothering me for an entire year now. I shit you not; I’ve actually shed tears over this!

Deep breath… here goes:

On October 21 2015, Jimmy Kimmel paid homage to the second installment of the Back to the Future franchise by having Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reprise their iconic characters on his show. This was due to the fact that, in BTTF Part II, Marty McFly and Dr. Emmet L. Brown traveled to the aforementioned date thirty years after the 1985 timeline, which was portrayed as Present Day Hill Valley in all three films. The two actors shared lots of laughs on stage, Huey Lewis appeared in a really funny cameo and a wonderfully nostalgic time was had by all.

We now flash forward– or, in this case, back (is anyone confused yet?)– to the nigh-Summer of last year. On June 16 2016, Scott Bakula made a similar appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show and… here’s where I explain to you why I’m angry.

The key element in the Kimmel appearance is it was Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, not Michael and someone else! It wasn’t right for Stephen to step into Dean’s silver shoes– CERTAINLY NOT into Dean’s silver jacket; which, by the way was his favorite! And, yes! I realize that Dean wasn’t available due to his recovery from two strokes. If you ask me, that’s what makes this even more insulting!

It’s a pattern that, quite frankly, I’m sick and tired of seeing and nowhere was it more infuriating than it was in this despicable display! What I mean by that is a man who has LITERALLY GROWN UP IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE WORLD, a man who has given us OVER SEVEN DECADES of phenomenal performances, isn’t even mentioned in a sketch involving one of his most beloved characters! Stephen didn’t say: “Quantum Leap, starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell…” He said: “Quantum Leap, starring Scott Bakula and…” that’s it!! And then he just assumes the part like Dean means absolutely NOTHING!! What the fuck, Colbert?!

To top it off, a man whom Dean always seemed to love like a brother is going out of his way to avoid speaking his name! Don’t believe me? Because I refuse to watch them again– that’s how painful this is to me– please search YouTube for the following videos:

“Quantum Leap” Returns with Scott Bakula as Sam Beckett (June 16, 2016).

Scott Bakula at the 2016 Star Trek Convention (August 10, 2016).

As if It wasn’t hurtful enough to witness Stephen neglect Dean’s brilliance, for Scott to do the same was beyond horrible!! If, during this sketch, Scott had just said: “Dean, I know you can’t be here, but I wish you well. We all do! I loved working with you. This is for you, buddy!” If he’d said at least that, perhaps I wouldn’t be so furious! But, did he? No. For that matter, in almost two fucking years, he hasn’t spoken a word about the man he once referred to as “the gentlest spirit” he’s ever known.

Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada.

But, hey… Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Dean’s illness was too painful for Scott to speak about openly. If so, I apologize. I’m not saying Scott doesn’t have a right to privacy, but that damn sketch… Why not so much as a shoutout?

Finally, and possibly one of the most insulting blows of all is the affect this ignorance has had on Scott’s fans. I’ll even go so far as to say I’m way out of line for blaming him for the behavior of others, but… if you’ve stuck with me this far, I ask you: Please hear me out.

Recently I peaked at one of Scott’s Tweets about the Tony Awards and do you know what his followers were saying…? They were praising him– ALONE– for Quantum Leap! A follower Tweeted about how Sam proved that ONE PERSON can make a difference! One… FUCKING ONE! As in: Uno, Solo, Solitary… He did it by himself!! That started the tears flowing from me once again. It’s not fair!! Dean has given us so much and, in the VERY long run, has received so little! I wish no harm or ill will on Scott Bakula. Hell, I’m sure he’s still the same good-natured guy that everyone– including Dean himself– has praised to infinity! But if I actually had the courage to tell all of this to Scott, I would have to ask:

Why…?
