“LOL. You think your vote matters? ROFL and LOL.” Yes, I am aware my vote carries less and less relative power the more people I’m voting with, but unlike your glorious violent revolution, it actually exists.
The Glorious Violent Revolution fantasy is the Rapture for leftists.
#you heard me#I'm not kidding either#the whole thing and attitude towards is is remarkably similar#you think we haven't noticed the almost lurid fascination and desire to watch the guillotine massacre away#in much the way that the “elect” would be sitting there watching the rest of us “sinners” burn in hellfire for a thousand years?#and how little thought is put into how you're going to pull off this revolution without causing a famine?#or “what next”#look I have no love for the status quo as it is#but I'm going to look askance at any plan that considers a global famine “acceptable collateral damage”#and whose default response to everyone who doesn't get in line with the program is Mister Guillotine#or really take into account that humans are quarrelsome as fuck#this isn't me defending the status quo#this is me saying grow the fuck up#you're not going to build a better world by murdering your way there and you can't purge humanity of it's bad habits with the headman's axe
If I was a small, adorable forest creature who'd just been hibernating for the last three months and the brightly coloured cartoon personification of the changing seasons who came by to roust me from my slumber was a morning person, the consequences would be Biblical. I'd be like that one frog that single-handedly plagued all of Egypt, okay? Woe, me be upon you.
Oh holy shit they found Silphium alive and growing in the wild.
Like now that I am awake I need to reiterate how huge this is. It was presumed harvested to extinction by the Romans. It was a favorite flavoring and according to historians one of the best contraceptives ever known. True or not it would be fantastic to study that but it being extinct made that impossible.
This is such a huge deal! I hope they get it figured how to grow it.
At least show us the bison!
The best update.

Apparently the first hurricane since 1939 is expected to make landfall in California this weekend. It’s expected that an entire year’s worth of rain will fall in 24-48hrs. Don’t you love climate change?
It’s expected that the hurricane will weaken to a tropical storm before making landfall in Southern California.
Still, as someone who lives in LA, this is deeply concerning. Anyone who lives in Los Angeles knows that the city is DEEPLY unprepared to handle any amount of rain, let alone a TROPICAL STORM. The tiniest amounts of rainfall cause floods in LA, because the city has no drainage systems in place. I’ve seen DRIZZLES cause floods. It takes so little rain to flood LA.
If a tropical storm truly does make landfall in LA, it will have a devastating effect on the city’s very large unhoused population. LA (along with NYC) has the biggest unhoused population in the United States, and these people will be stuck on the flooded streets.
Deeply concerning.
Coincidentally, in November 2022, researchers at UC Irvine conducted a study on how a major flood would impact Los Angeles.
From ABC news (s):
“In a state severely hobbled by drought and wildfires, flood concerns may not seem top-of-mind. But a new study out of UC Irvine found that Los Angeles County's aging flood systems may not be ready for a major flood.
"Right now, our research suggests that our infrastructure and the way we've built it out is much more vulnerable to this type of event than I think anyone would have guessed," said Brett Sanders, a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UCI and one of the authors of the paper.
The study expands on federal flood risk maps that do not include flooding from rainstorms, only coastal and river flooding, according to Sanders.
“For any Angeleno that drives around [in a] Southern California rainstorm, you know that you quickly find yourself in a street corner filled with water. And those risks aren't mapped," said Sanders.
"So you can imagine the small amount of flooding we have in our streets on a typical winter storm. What might that look like in a once-in-100-year-storm?" he continued.
According to the study's mid-range estimates, 425,000 people could be exposed to flooding of more than a foot, causing $56 billion in property damage in the event of a major flood.
But, those are the researchers' "best guess," said Sanders. The study accounted for uncertainties in how much water would flow through the area in a once-in-a-century flood.
The study's low estimates put 197,000 Angelenos at risk of experiencing flood levels of more than about a foot and property damage at about $36 billion. On the high end, a major flood could impact 874,000 people and cause $108 billion in property damage.
The study also found that communities of color would be more likely to experience waist-high flooding.
Black, Latino and Asian Angelenos would be 79%, 17%, and 11% more likely, respectively, to experience deep flooding than white Angelenos.”
I seriously hope that the storm weakens before it makes landfall. I hope this concern becomes completely unnecessary and that it’s nothing more than a little drizzle.
For the latest updates:
As of 6:35am PDT: "HILARY REMAINS A LARGE AND POWERFUL CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE... ...SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IMPACTS POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE BAJA CALIFORNIA PENINSULA AND THE SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES."
"Heavy rainfall in association with Hilary is expected to impact the Southwestern United States through next Wednesday, peaking on Sunday and Monday. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts of 10 inches, are expected across portions of southern California and southern Nevada, which would lead to significant and rare impacts. Elsewhere across portions of the Western United States, rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected."

if I was matt murdock and I found out the same chemical spill that blinded me and lit the world on “fire” turned a bunch of turtles into pizza loving ninjas I would lose it actually
I’m not going lie the thought of matt finding out he’s radioactive ooze brothers with this particular version of the tmnt has me in tears
matt, trying to recount his childhood and ignore the smell of turtle, three day old pizza, and sewer: …..so yah, after my dad died I was basically on my own.
the turtles, already planning on buying their radioactive waste brother a shirt that says “I fell in radioactive waste and all I got was these glasses”: cowabummer dude. our dad’s a rat

my addition for disability pride month
Parents: please teach your children about disability. Teach them that all bodies are different. Teach them that not everyone is like them and that’s okay, diversity makes life exciting!
Almost every time I take my wheelchair out, these kids are just staring at me like I’m glowing fluorescent green. It’s like they’ve never seen someone in a wheelchair before. When I tic, kids look at me shocked and a little freaked out.
And yes, I know they’re kids! I understand that they don’t know everything yet. But guess what? That’s your job as their parent. Not mine. Not any disabled person’s.
show your children pictures of people in wheelchairs, videos by and of autistic adults stimming, videos by people with facial differences, of people with limb differences, people with Down syndrome, people with dwarfism, people that use nasal cannulas, and so on.
Kids are not inherently going to be afraid of or rude to disabled people, not if you as the parent educate them from a young age. Teach them to be kind, not to stare, not to pet service animals.
We aren’t rare; your kid will come across us. We’re not “inspiring” OR “scary.” We’re people. That’s it. Educate them first so these are positive experiences! 💜
ah, accessibility nightmares.
when 2020 hit and school was going virtual, i had to take some exam online. being that i'm blind and also have nystagmus + one of my eyes is always crossed, and given that the software used your camera to determine if you were looking at your screen, the software came to the conclusion that i must have been cheating... you know, because i wasn't "looking" enough. so it had these obtrusive popups telling me to look at my camera every 5 seconds.
on top of that, it wasn't screen reader accessible. so i had to be 2 inches away from my screen, which meant that my camera could only see the top of my head while answering a question.
i somehow did pretty well on the test but it failed me anyway because some computer somewhere decided i was cheating.
Good gravy. The eye contact thing is...incredibly frustrating, but what really got me was the complete lack of screen reader accessibility. I certainly hope this was a very private school, because if they had any sort of federal funding (and you are in the U.S), what you just described is flat out illegal.
@the-smol-machine replied
Hi i sent this. It was in the US. it was a public school. with disability resources. I think i ended up getting it evaluated and getting the right grade but this shouldn't have happened to begin with.
Absolutely 100% unacceptable. I know schools had to adapt fast during the pandemic, but this is embarrassing.
Ok with this in mind, I should be clear: Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is generally limited to the Federal sector and does not necessarily impose those requirements on all recipients of federal funds.
However.
The Department of Education considers the Assistive Technology Act to require that states receiving assistance under the Assistive Technology State Grants program comply with section 508 requirements.
So yeah, technically I can't be sure it was illegal, but there is a good chance it was. And even if it wasn't, it was so embarrassing and they should be embarrassed. I'm glad you got the right grade, but good grief, I can't believe you even needed to appeal the results to begin with.
