I like how everybody is paired off haha
I FINALLY FOUND OUT WHY THIS HAPPENS. You see this all the time when there’s a fight or a scrum and suddenly everyone pairs up with a member of the opposite team and they just sort of …hold each other.
Someone on reddit asked about it. And it turns out there’s a logical-ish reason:
all of the other players pair off with their man to prevent anyone else entering into the fight … so it’s a form of self policing.
[…] The players basically want to prevent 2 on 1, etc. fights and by finding a “hugging” partner so there’s no ganging up on one guy, even on accident. They do it because it’s fair. And it’s kind of cute sometimes.
so now we know! it’s fair…and cute.
Aw best part is no ones left out at this dance

NHL: You need to prevent other player’s from joining in the fight, make sure to hold them back
Hockey players, hugging: Got it.
“One day, he’s going to know. He’ll know your birthday, your middle name, where you were born, your star sign, and your parent’s names. He’ll know how old you were when you learned to play violin, how your grandparents passed away, how many pets you had, and how much you hated going to school. He’ll know your eye colour, your scars, your laugh lines, and your birthmarks. He’ll know your favourite book, movie, candy, food, pair of shoes, colour, and song. He’s going to know why you wake up in the middle of the night most nights, where you were when you realised you had lost yourself, why you picked up the razor, and how you managed to put it down before things went too far. He’s going to know your phobias, your dreams, your fears, your wishes, and your worries. He’s going to know about your first heartbreak, your dream wedding, and your problems with your mother. He’ll know your strengths, weaknesses, laziness, energy, and your mixed emotions. He’s going to know about your love for all things salted caramel, your dream of being a vet when you were five, your need to sing along to every song you know, and your fears of growing older. He’ll know your bad habits, your mannerisms, your stroppy pout, your facial expressions, and your laugh like it’s his favourite song. The way you chew, drink, walk, sleep, fidget, and kiss. He’s going to know that you’ve already picked out wedding flowers, baby names, tiles for the bathroom, bridesmaid dresses, and the colour of your bedroom walls. He’s going to know, get annoyed at and then accept that you leave clean clothes out for days, get scared ordering at a store, have to organise your DVD’s by genre, and check your horoscope… just in case. He’ll know your McDonald’s order, how you don’t like sugar in your coffee, how many scoops of ice cream you want, and that you don’t like sandwiches unless they’re toasted. He’s going to know how you feel without telling him, when you’re holding in a laugh, and that you’re crying without shedding tears. He’s going to know all of it. Everything. You, from top to bottom and inside out. From learning, from sharing, from listening, from watching. He’s going to know every single thing there is to know, and you know what else? He is still going to love you.”

THE LEGENDARY STORY OF THE TROJAN HORSE DOES NOT INVOLVE THE GREEKS GIVING THE HORSE TO THE TROJANS AS A GIFT. THE GREEKS’ DECEPTION WAS ACTUALLY THAT THEY LEFT THE HORSE AS AN OFFERING TO THE GODDESS ATHENA.
IN THE LEGEND, THEY BASICALLY SENT SOMEONE TO TROY TO SAY “THIS HORSE IS FOR ATHENA, NOT YOU, SO OUR RETREAT BACK TO GREECE IS SAFE. DON’T TRY TO TAKE IT. IT WON’T FIT THROUGH THE GATES OF YOUR CITY, SO THERE’S NO WAY YOU DICKS CAN STEAL IT AND PRETEND YOU GOT IT FOR ATHENA. NOT FOR TROJANS.”
AND THEN TROY WAS LIKE “YOU’RE NOT OUR DAD. WE WON THIS WAR AND WE’RE TAKING YOUR STUPID HORSE AS A TROPHY SO WE’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW BAD GREECE IS AT DESTROYING TROY.”
AND A FEW TROJANS WERE LIKE “THIS IS A TRICK” AND TRIED TO EXPOSE IT AS A TRICK BUT THE REST OF THE TROJANS WOULD HAVE NONE OF IT BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS SWEPT UP IN THE THRILL OF VICTORY, AND ALSO BECAUSE THE GODS KEPT SENDING SNAKES TO STRANGLE ANYONE WHO SAID ANYTHING, BECAUSE THE GREEK GODS HAD NO WORD FOR “SUBTLETY”
THEN AT NIGHT ALL THE GREEKS JUMPED OUT OF THE HORSE LIKE “WE TOLD YOU NOT TO TAKE THE HORSE, WHY ARE YOU SUCH PRIDEFUL DICKS” AND BURNED DOWN THE WHOLE CITY
This makes a lot more sense
THIS IS DOPE S/O TO CHEERIOS
life is too short

THIS. There are so many fucking latinos who can not speak Spanish. Like wtf. As a Latina who CAN speak Spanish it makes me both mad and sad that so many don’t know their native tongue, like I go places with my friends and we see other groups of friends; latinos, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Cambodian, Thai, French, German and Italians are just some of the groups of friends I’ve met/seen and aside from the latinos every single one of them have always spoken their native tongue, every embeber of that group. Latinos are some of the most proud people of their culture and yet the majority in the US don’t know or even understand the biggest part of our cultures, the language. I’ve also met people who are embarrassed of their language, always latinos; a greater majority within the minorities. Why? Why are you all so embarrassed of where you came from? How are you so proud of the worse parts of (EEUU) latino culture like cholos/cholas and Pachuca/Pachucas and even the typical préganáncy age, yet those same people don’t embrace their culture, are embarrassed by their language and even more embarrassed by any sort of association to their culture, like music.
No offense but this is sometimes out of their control. Some parents don’t teach their children their native tongue (like mine) because they want them to assimilate better to Western society. Did any of us ask for this? No. Everyday I wish I could turn back time and have been taught it when I could have absorbed it more easily but that’s impossible.
Please don’t look down on people that can’t speak their native tongue. As you grow older, it’s a lot harder to learn a language, even if you have been surrounded by it your whole life. It’s frustrating when your relatives speak to you and you can’t respond or understand, or when you go back to your homeland and you need someone to translate for you, or when people look at you in disgust claiming you are “whitewashed”. Some people don’t ask for this; in fact they wish they can speak their language and be connected to their culture more than anything but it’s VERY DIFFICULT.
I agree that being embarassed by your culture is very unfortunate however a lot of it is based on assimilation. Kids feel the need to assimilate to Western society and as a result, they become embarassed of their culture, especially for the fact that many are belittled for certain parts. In a society where your culture and its elements are belittled, it’s not exactly easy to fit in. It’s unfortunate but sometimes out of their control.
Not everybody that can’t speak their native tongue is embarassed of their culture. And what is this gifset even trying to say? “She’s white and can speak this language so you should be embarassed because she’s more this culture than you?” I’m really sick of seeing things like this because honestly, I’m sick of being ashamed of something I’ve been struggling to do all of my life. Speaking your language and connecting to your culture can be VERY VERY difficult to do for a lot of diaspora (especially with assimilation to Western society) so please don’t invalidate and look down on people’s struggles. Thank you!!!
^^^ My mother taught me Cantonese and i knew it fluently, as soon as we moved to Australia i was teased so much and at a young age racial slurs were thrown at me. I stopped speaking Cantonese and i now only know very little. Now i get told i do not dress “asian” and cannot speak my native tongue so i am therefore white washed. My sister did not learn Cantonese because my mum didnt want her to go through the same thing i did. Please dont fuel the whole “if you cant speak your native tongue you are an outcast”. Thank you!!!!
Thank you!!! Finally someone put it into words!
Besides parents on their own deciding to not teach their kids Spanish, the large number of Hispanics who can’t speak Spanish is also somewhat deliberate in some parts of the US. Especially in the south and the far West, schools would punish kids severely for speaking anything that wasn’t English (corporeal punishment, we’re talking a generation or two ago). This is happens in a less physical way even in recent years. I live in Texas and I know latinx people from Amarillo who were actively discouraged by teachers and administration to not speak Spanish. Some can barely communicate with their parents.
(As a side note, some schools still also do their best to eliminate accents)
The more generations a latinx family has been here, the more likely they’ve been to a school like this and thus, more likely they speak little Spanish and definitely will not value Spanish as something to teach their kids. They see Spanish (and Hispanic accents!!!) as something that gets made fun of and beat out of you. English (with no foreign accent!!), on the other hand, they see as the language of success.
It’s essentially never the kid’s fault. It’s always the xenophobia of the area and the ingrained linguistic associations that the parents have.
