The man crying is George Gillette, tribal chairman of the Mandan, Arikara, and Hidatsa tribes of North Dakota in 1948. He was forced under the threat of death of all his people to sign over the tribes’ homeland on the fertile floodplain of the Missouri River in order to build the Garrison Dam.
The final settlement legislation denied tribes’ right to use the reservoir shoreline for grazing, hunting, fishing or other purposes, including irrigation development and royalty rights on all subsurface minerals within the reservoir area.
After the dam was constructed, the three tribes were scattered, their communities and extended families flung to different shores of the 200-mile-long Lake Sakakawea.

Kinda seems like a one sided conversation, doesn’t it? I’m tired of “conversations on race” whenever another innocent, unarmed black person is executed by the police. They’re as perfunctory as they are repetitive.
We need justice, not another hollow conversation that doesn’t change anything and does nothing to prevent the next shooting.

Say it Again!
If Tyler Perry actually dealt with his misogynoir and colorism he would bring so much love and healing to his community. He needs to go to therapy because he’s simply incapable of creating work that is not colorist and/or misogynoiristic.
I refuse to feel happy about him having a major studio until he shows he can at least support work that is not toxic, misogynoiristic and colorist as the work he has created. I highly doubt he has the palette for work that is not toxic like his.
Being black is not enough. If you are not changing the status quo why should I support you? If you are reproducing the same social ills under the guise of being forward thinking please sit down with your fradualent self.
Black people will bend over backwards to defend the indefensible if you slap a black face on it. Y’all hate to hear it but more black capitalists is not liberating and more black gate keepers does not open doors.
