I was rereading son of Neptune and it occurred to me than it would have been really interesting if Percy had actually gone by Perseus until he received his memories back because it wasn’t uncommon in pjo that when gods or monsters first encountered Percy, they would often use his whole name Perseus Jackson.
But in SON, the sisters of Medusa immediately call him “Percy” and maybe you could even assume from the text that Lupa did as well considering this is what Percy refers to himself as, despite having no memory.
And I think it would have been more impactful if Percy had woken, no memory, and Lupa called him Perseus Jackson, and from there on out thats how he referred to himself. In a literary sense, it would have created a distinction between our Percy Jackson, the boy we know from the original series, who hated his full name and went by his nickname, and Perseus, the boy with no memory, and doesn’t know to correct anyone because he doesn’t remember.
By simply changing something so basic and yet so fundamental to him, it could have established a greater sense of uncertainty for the readers on if he was really going to get his memory back. It also would’ve been cool to see characters like Hazel, Frank, and Reyna call him Perseus and, after he got his memory back, whether or not he would correct them, and if they would accidentally still call him that if he did.

not to pat myself on the back or anything but like, can you imagine reading the Son of Neptune for the first time, desperately wanting to know whats happened to Percy, and the character narration name of the chapter is Perseus?
And when he gets his memory back, we flip the page to the next chapter, and the name is now, once more, Percy? I would have rioted.
The romans distrusting the son of Neptune with the name of a greek hero… distrusting the boy with name that means to destroy.
Or imagine, when Percy talks with Nico, and Nico slips and says “Percy………us” and it feels like a jolt in Percy’s spine.
Perseus is a raw as hell name and it really could have been utilized here.
so SAG-AFTRA finally released some official guidance for fans, viewers, creators/influencers, critics, and more during the strike. here's what you need to know:
- if you see a publication/news source/journalist talking about a piece of struck work, that's ok. they're allowed to do that.
2. they're asking regular viewers and fans to DONATE TO STRIKE FUNDS, SHOW UP TO PICKETS IF YOU CAN, and please do NOT boycott streaming services or movies in theaters.
3. influencers, content creators, cosplayers, and anything in between is still a bit of a grey area, but they're asking people to use their best judgement. "organically" means UNPAID promo (like an invite to a premiere without being paid, being sent a publicity box, letting the company's social media post a photo of you in cosplay, etc).
obviously this doesn't answer every question, and isn't hard and fast rules for fanworks, but it can at least inform how you personally choose to move forward when posting online and moving publically. i hope this helps!

and I found like, twelve ebooks I’ve been wanting to read on there, and blasted through like three of them during the course of a boring-ass shift.
Guy there are books on magic on there.
There’s books on EVERYTHING there!
Wouldn’t this be bad for authors though? or is this like a normal library where they get /some/ money?
It’s like a normal library. Libraries can upload ebooks there and let people check them out through openlibrary if you have an openlibrary account, or it can point you to nearby libraries that have physical copies of the book for you to go and check out. If you check out books via openlibrary it counts towards the count of books checked out from the library that uploaded the ebook, and they can use it in their reporting and funding and stuff.
There’s like 150 libraries partnered with openlibrary so far.
They also have copies that you can check out if you are print-disabled.
You can also ‘sponsor a book’, which means you pay the cost of the ebook you want openlibrary to acquire, and then they can add it to their collection and let people check it out.
I sure did!
And click on a title even if it says ‘no ebook available’ and scroll down, ‘cause sometimes that just means “all of the copies of ebooks are checked out right now but you can get on the waitlist when it’s back in”

So Mattel came out with different Barbie body types a couple years ago, right? There’s your normal body, but there’s also Curvy, Petite, and Tall now.
Around the same time, they came out with the Made to Move body, which has a ton more articulation than your normal Barbie.
Customizers love the Made to Move body, because hey, a lot more fun positions to put a doll in for photographing. But now Mattel has started making the Made to Move dolls with the additional body types from above. We’ve gotten a Curvy Made to Move doll so far, afaik.
This Queen Elizabeth doll, though? Is the first time there’s been a Petite Made to Move body released by Mattel. So customizers were buying it up not out of any care about Queen Elizabeth — but they were buying it to pop her head right off and use the new body for other dolls!
The thing i like the most about tumblr is learning tiny details about communities i would otherwise not even be aware of. thank you for this info
