The Storm of the Alkonost

@alkonoststorm / alkonoststorm.tumblr.com

A blog about my interests and obsessions. Also ramblings. I'm a disaster and probably need an adult.

Good for this person. This is exactly what you do. Screw the job.

I had a job that made me work an all nighter, 30 hours straight, over Thanksgiving. I resigned that Monday and it was one of the most satisfying decisions I’ve ever made.

Please pay attention to all the manipulation tactics this boss uses, because they’re pulling out every trick in the book.

  • “I’m not your boss, I’m your friend”
  • “Other people will be hurt by this and it’s your fault and I’m going to tell them all that”
  • Mocking language
  • Jobs are important too
  • “Be a team player”
  • “We’re your family too”
  • Talking as if this is a thing you must do
  • “We all make sacrifices”
  • Undermining your authority
  • “You caused all of this, really”
  • Accusing you of being “unprofessional”
  • “Look at the money you cost us”
  • “Just laugh it off and come back to work”

This is like a 101 course in how employers use guilt trips to coerce you into putting up with their bullshit. This is precisely why you should never trust those employers who insist that they’re “like a family.” They are not. It’s just a ruse so that your boss can neg you into putting your job ahead of your actual life.

Titanic: Project 401 allows you explore a jaw-droppingly authentic recreation of the RMS Titanic, from first class all the way down to the engine rooms.

Can't wait for the submersible DLC

I say this with affection: the Honor & Glory guys are absolutely fucking insane. They’re going on? Eight years of work now? With the eventual end goal of recreating every inch of Titanic in painstaking historic detail. There used to be an actual game planned for the environment as well but I think at this point it’s 100% about the ship.

Godspeed, you lunatics. Hopefully my computer will be able to handle the end product.

I feel like this video did more to explain to me than anything else ever has why people were so pressed to ride this thing. I mean—can you imagine? Look at it! I grew up in the 90s, you’ll never catch me far from my phone, and I don’t think I’d miss it for the week I’d be aboard. It’s gorgeous. There’s so much to do. I’m terrified of boats (a certain blockbuster film from 1997 might have a little to do with that) and even I’m charmed by the idea of traveling on this.

PSA: bot comments are taking over ao3

The above examples have been provided with the authors' permission to demonstrate what these look like.

Basic rundown:

  • They are all 3 sentences long
  • Perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation
  • Like absolutely flawless English teacher-style writing with only a single exclamation mark, ever
  • No mentions whatsoever of character names, settings, situations, or anything that could be tied to the story
  • The usernames may be identical to people who exist on ao3, but the name is not clickable, and no profile is associated with it EXCEPT when you directly search for that name. What this means: the comments come from an unregistered (not logged in) reader, bots scrape the site for real usernames, attach that to the comment, and post

Please spread the word about this so authors can filter comments and report them accordingly

There has been some speculation about why this is happening at all, and the best guess is that this is a feature that AI-training story-scraping tools are implementing to try and make their browsing traffic look legitimate

You really have to give the architect a 5 star thumbs up for his vision in building this place …

the town’s name is dixon

the longer you look at it the funnier it gets

Dude, this is the city I was born in. I know exactly which building that is, I HAVE BEEN TO THIS BUILDING, I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE FROM ABOVE

I had to google if it was real and found an article about the church and

i’m dying

A spokesman for an Illinois Christian Science church that looks like a penis when viewed from above has come out of the woodwork to decry the building’s newfound Internet fame. “We didn’t design it to be seen from above,” Scott Shepherd told SaukValley.com last week. Local architect John McLane, who did not design the church, told the site he believes it’s “a little bit of a stretch” to claim that the aerial view of the structure looks like a penis. We’ll let you decide for yourself: The church, which is located in the town of Dixon (indeed), was designed by an architect who McLane guesses “probably” designed it that way by accident, according to SaukValley.com. Shepherd noted that the shape makes sense for the needs of the church because it allows for ample natural light as well as space for a sanctuary.

Yeah, that totally doesn’t look phallic at all ….

characters who did not die and are now forced to live with the knowledge that they shouldve, characters that had made peace with said death but it never came and they have to live on, character who despite their wishes will still fight to live should death come for them again

movie vs book (i adore them both)

How could you leave this in the notes, excellent addition

Actually, this makes the childification of Michael in the movie when he’s 15 in the book really funny:

Sophie, a 20-ish year old woman from a fantasy land where getting married at 16 or 17 does not seem to be unusual: Yes, this is a young man who is almost an adult.

Howl, a man in his late 20s from our world: This is a BABY and he does BABY things.
