another addendum to the last ask i answered is that ultimately your politics do not consist of what you think is 'good' or 'bad', or what you are comfortable with or uncomfortable with--your politics consist of what you actually do and how you interact with the world around you. they are wholly external and wholly contained within concrete actions contextualised within the world

“Nobody can claim that humanity is in the process of decay without having observed the same putrid symptoms in himself. Nobody can say that humanity is evil without he himself having been part of evil deeds. There is no such thing as unshackled observation. He who lives is the life-long prisoner of humanity and contributes, willingly or unwillingly, to an increase or decrease of the human inventory of happiness and misfortune, greatness and humiliation, hope and despondence […] the fate of humanity is at stake everywhere and at all times, and the responsibility of one life for another is immeasurable.”

Stig Dagerman, “Do We Have Faith in Humanity?” (trans. Lo Dagerman & Max Levy)

🏳️‍⚧️ What happens if your state won't allow you to access gender-affirming care, like HRT?

Some states are stepping up where others are stepping back. Connecticut is the first state to pass a "safe state" law that will protect people who are seeking gender-affirming care or abortion care if it becomes illegal in their home state. Connecticut's law also means criminalizing states can't use out-of-state warrants to arrest parents or guardians for helping their child get care there, and would restrict other states from subpoenaing the medical records of families who sought gender-affirming care outside of their home states.

Some other states are on track to pass laws like this, too. While not everyone has the resources to be able to pack up and move, states passing "sanctuary" laws like this want to make it clear that we are welcome. 🏳️‍⚧️

the real life version of being doomed by the narrative is knowing you have work in the morning

the irl version of being stuck in the timeloop is also going to work

in light of recent history, 'avoid something like the plague' has been redefined to mean doing so half-heartedly and giving up after a while

you can say what area you live in as well/if masks are still required where you are if youd like too! and no judgement on the results/dont be afraid to pick a certain answer, im genuinely just curious to see how much ppl are still masking at least here on tumblr?

I'm serious when I say the United States is actively hostile to children. Constant school shootings our leaders refuse to do anything about. Child Protective Services that overwhelmingly do nothing of the sort. No healthcare. Our education system is abysmal. Very few areas in the public that are safe for children to be in. Large swaths of states making gender affirming care for trans kids a felony. Child marriages are legal in a lot of states. Treating kids like property parents have every right to do whatever they want to, to the point where the U.S. is one of the very few countries that refused to ratify the U.N.'s Convention On The Rights Of The Child explicitly on the basis that treating children like people erodes the rights of American parents. And now states are enacting laws that overturn child labor laws like it's the goddamn Victorian Age. And even before those laws were made, it turns out that migrant children have been working in factories for a lot of companies, including the supposedly socially-minded Ben and Jerry's.

As complicated as adult life is, I would never want to be a kid again, with no say or agency in my life and completely helpless to the whims of the adults around me.

No but dead ass do you know you? What do you believe and how do you act when no one is looking, when there’s no gaze observing and judging and applauding? What do you believe in to your core? What are your guiding truths that are central to how you view the world?

Or do you fold on your principals at the slightest bit of pressure?

The Men of September

Josie and the Pussycats / Alan Cumming as Wyatt Frame

I call this Wyatt's amazing color-changing suit, because it looks purple or brown depending on the lighting. It has a very retro cut with the high button point on the jacket, kind of 2000s-does-1960s-does-1910s. The long hair and tinted glasses give him the hip/slick vibe of a (kinda sleazy) bigtime record producer--which, of course, is what he is.

sorry but it’s actually so horrific how little of a sense of community people have, how little regard they extend towards the other humans around them. killing people for being loud on the subway or turning around in your driveway. loading your gun and waiting at the door because a child ran your doorbell unexpectedly. ring cameras, neighborhoodapp, community watch group Facebook pages. you’ve assigned yourself the role of the one true peacekeeper and casted everyone else around you as a threat to be controlled. there’s no connection or love or compassion. just a deep distrust and hatred.

and the people who face the most significant consequences from this are the ones who are already deemed as outsiders. people of color, especially Black people, disabled people, people with mental illnesses, homeless people.

and so many people are willfully promoting this complete alienation from each other. the obsession with true crime, the hatred directed at children for existing in public spaces, the policing and controlling of where homeless people are allowed to be / what they’re allowed to do, the constant fearmongering about public transportation. you are building a society of FEAR. you are conditioning yourself to distrust everyone around you. you need to make an active, conscious effort to engage with the world and the life around you in a healthy manner.
