Chapter Seven: The Freighter
Summary: (Y/N) and Mando work with Bo-Katan for the first time, and (Y/N) definitely enjoys themself.
Mouse Note: I am heading into the mountains so updates might come at weird times and depending on how many chapters I have saved up the schedule might change. I hope you guys understand <3
After eating, Mando, (Y/N) and the Child headed through town to check on the Razorcrest and then find a place to say. However, they were interrupted when a group of men in similar clothing to the fishermen they had faced walked out of the shadows.
“You killed my brother,” said the man in front.
“Let me pass,” said Mando. He was tired and irritated enough.
The man chuckled. “I don’t think you understand. You killed my brother, and now I’m going to kill your kids.”
Mando tensed, and (Y/N)’s hand traveled to their blaster. Before they engaged in the fight, however, the three Mandalorians landed behind their group.
“He didn’t kill your brother,” said Bo-Katan. “I did.”
They all moved at once. The Mandalorians and (Y/N) fired at the men, and several fired back and fell. It was over in seconds, and each man slumped down to the ground.
“Can we at least buy you a drink?” asked Bo-Katan.
Mando was silent, and (Y/N) nudged him, giving him a look. He sighed and nodded. He would trust his kid’s intuition.
Bo-Katan, Koska, and Axe (Bo-Katan had politely introduced them all to remain civil) sat across from Mando, (Y/N), and the Child.
“Trask is a black-market port,” said Bo-Katan. “They staging weapons that have been bought and sold with the plunders of our planet. We’re seizing those weapons and using them to retake our home world. Once we’ve done that, we’ll seat a new Mandalore on the throne.”
“That planet is cursed,” said Mando. “Anyone who goes there dies. Once the Empire knew they couldn’t control it, they made sure no one else could either.” He looked at (Y/N). “They’re taking everything from Ushti, too. The Empire ruins what it touches.”
“Don’t believe everything you hear,” said Bo-Katan. “Our enemies wanna separate us. But Mandalorians are stronger together.”
“That’s not part of my plan,” said Mando. “I’ve been quested with returning these children to the Jedi.”
(Y/N) scowled at the reminder and took a sip of their water sullenly.
Bo-Katan raised an eyebrow. “What do you know of the Jedi?” She glanced at the Child and (Y/N) as if assessing their ability to be a Jedi.
“Nothing,” admitted Mando, and (Y/N) nodded in confirmation. “I was hoping you would help me by Creed.”
Koska, Bo-Katan, and Axe exchanged glances. (Y/N) knew Mando was about to be offered a job.
“I can lead you to one of their kind,” said Bo-Katan.
We actually have a lead, thought (Y/N). They weren’t excited.
“But first, we need your help on our mission,” said Bo-Katan.
Bo-Katan rose from the table. Her fellow Mandalorians stood, and Mando and his Clan followed. Bo-Katan brought them to the port and nodded to a ship.
“You see that imperial Gozanti freighter,” said Bo-Katan. “It’s being loaded with weapons as we speak. According to the port’s manifest, it’s scheduled to depart at first light.”
“So we stow away?” asked Mando.
“We’ve been hitting them pretty hard,” said Koska. “They scan for life forms as a precaution before pushing back.”
“If we’re gonna do this with four, you’re gonna need the element of surprise.” Mando knew he had to accept in order to finish his quest.
“No,” said Mando sharply.
(Y/N) narrowed their eyes and crossed their arms. “They’re imperial. I want in.”
“No,” repeated Mando firmly.
(Y/N) glared at him. “I’ll find a way.”
“I don’t want you in this fight. It’s too dangerous,” said Mando.
“I’m coming,” said (Y/N) fiercely.
Bo-Katan and her Mandalorians smartly decided to stay out of the argument.
(Y/N) clenched their fists as they glared at him. Their Ushti markings were as sharp as their gaze. A subtle creak of the boxes on the port echoed in the silence. Several wooden slid backwards at (Y/N)’s anger.
Bo-Katan glanced at the boxes. That was the power of the Jedi. That explained why Mando was searching for Jedi. The kid needed guidance.
Mando took a deep, deep breath. “Fine.” He knew that (Y/N) would do something stupid if he wasn’t there to stop them. He could keep them safe if he was with them. “But you stay close and you listen.”
(Y/N) shrugged. “I always do.”
“You don’t,” said Mando, and (Y/N) pointedly ignored them.
Suppressing an amused smirk, Bo-Katan spoke. “Alright, so we have five. We’ll still need the element of surprise, but we have a plan. The freighter will maintain cruising speed while inside the shipping lanes and then ascend to orbit. We’ll jet up when they’re cruising in the atmosphere. The tower won’t allow them to climb until they’ve left the port’s airspace.”
“A squad at most,” said Bo-Katan.
So there are definitely going to be more since nothing is never that simple for us, thought (Y/N). At least I’ll have more to shoot.
“And they couldn’t hit the side of a bantha,” said Axe.
“We leave this morning,” said Bo-Katan.
Mando nodded and hefted the Child closer in his arms. “I’ll find a place to leave him and rejoin you here.”
