I love how here in this quote from Catching Fire,

I slide down into the water, letting it block out the sounds around me. I wish the tub would expand so I could go swimming, like I used to on hot summer Sundays in the woods with my father. Those days were a special treat. We would leave early in the morning and hike farther into the woods than usual to a small lake he'd found while hunting. I don't even remember learning to swim, I was so young when he taught me. I just remember diving, turning somersaults, and paddling around. The muddy bottom of the lake beneath my toes. The smell of blossoms and greenery. Floating on my back, as I am now, staring at the blue sky while the chatter of the woods was muted by the water. He'd bag the waterfowl that nested around the shore, I'd hunt for eggs in the grasses, and we'd both dig for katniss roots, the plant for which he named me, in the shallows. At night, when we got home, my mother would pretend not to recognize me because I was so clean. Then she'd cook up an amazing dinner of roasted duck and baked katniss tubers with gravy.

Katniss gives us the smallest details of her childhood and what her life was like before her father died 🥹. And gives us a very, very clear implication she was a really dirty kid 😭

Also I like to believe that after the war, she regularly comes home from the woods covered in mud and dirt and leaves because she returns to her carefree, dirty roots 🥹.

Much to Peeta’s annoyance.

Honestly the fact that Crunchyroll intentionally removed all closed captioning options for their tv app should be fucking criminal. You can only get subtitles if you watch the subbed Japanese version. If you watch dubbed anime and you're Deaf or HOH, Crunchyroll intentionally removed all closed captioning support. There is no work around.

I'm not kidding when I say that this should be fucking illegal.

So, I did a bit of research, and from what I can tell this is actually illegal.

Crunchyroll is a streaming service, and closed captions for all video content have been upheld as a requirement of the ADA. The courts determined this back in 2012 with Netflix, when they got sued by NAD and as a result had to add closed captioning for all their programs.

It looks like if people would like to file a complaint about this lack of accessibility, they can do so with the FCC here:

There’s an option for “Lack of closed captioning over the internet”, so you would want to select that and then explain the issue.

Fyi if you're filling out this form:

Crunchyroll is headquarted in San Francisco, California. You don't need to include the address or phone number.

Really happy to see this at my local library

OOOOH. *happy YA librarian dance*

I want this in every library, everywhere. After all, some kids won’t even google this stuff because they don’t want parents/siblings checking their browser history.

This is really awesome. And if you’re not familiar with how the Dewey Decimal system works - the numbers subject-based, which means these numbers are applicable in EVERY library. So if you see something you want to research on this list - look for those same numbers in any of your local libraries.

This is wonderful.
