the tendency for racists and white supremacists to go gaga over their idea of ancient Rome is so darkly hilarious because of how entirely wrong it is. It’s not a twisting of some kernels of truth, it’s not a misinterpretation, it’s just the exact opposite, and people in Western Europe has been doing it for so long. For centuries people in Britain and Germany would be like/have been like “ah yes, we are special and superior because we are the heirs of the superior Romans” while next to a giant pile of writings by respected Ancient Romans who went “god, Britain is a dump and Germany is full of idiot barbarians. I wish I lived somewhere cool and cultured like Syria or Tunisia.”

#the amount of letters i read about roman soldiers bemoaning the lack of olives in britain is astounding

This post on r/AmItheAsshole (and the OP’s follow-up responses) have me cry-laughing – please enjoy

listen I love starry night and starry night over the rhône and café terrace at night and sunflowers in a vase as much as any of you, and almond blossoms more than most, but I feel like we as a society are kind of sleeping on sower at sunset

i love defunctland because youll be watching a completely ordinary and straightforward video about theme park history until kevin says some shit like "nothing makes one face their own mortality more than being a wiggle" and then continues on like nothing ever happened

Building a bonfire. The photo did not have a photographer but had a patron: “There is something fascinating about the a structure designed with the intent to destroy itself. An interesting twist on “form follow function;” the architecture of imminent demise.”

i genuinely don't care how good a piece of ai generated art or writing looks on the surface. i don't care if it emulates brush strokes and metaphor in a way indistinguishable from those created by a person.

it is not the product of thoughtful creation. it offers no insights into the creator's life or viewpoint. it has no connection to a moment in time or a place or an attitude. it has no perspective. it has no value.

it's empty, it's hollow, and it exists only to generate clicks (and by extension, ad revenue.)

it's just another revolting symptom of the disease that is late stage capitalism, and it fucking sucks.

i've died on smaller hills, so i can't judge. but i do think it's funny whenever posts about the proper definition of a poor little meow meow circulate, considering none of them mention that the origin was a kpop fan's absolutely bonkers tweet about not being able to protect a full grown man who was getting backlash for including audio from the jonestown cult leader jim jones in one of his songs
