Since I suddenly got a (for me) big response to a post, my declaration of intent is that I’m a huge Hiddlestoner who is thrilled that he seems to have found “the love of his life” in the charming, funny, talented, and gorgeous Zawe Ashton. Any and all haters can see themselves out.

Anonymous asked:

So we are getting the fall of Tom and Zawe.

I am unreasonably excited that we’ll be getting new content from both of them at the same time. 🤩

And I’m hoping that the Marvel PR folks have talked them into walking each of their respective red carpets as a couple. To have that happen is pretty much a PR agent’s dream.

Marvel has set the premiere date for “Loki” Season 2 and “Echo,” Kevin Feige announced during the Disney upfront Tuesday.

In a first for a Marvel series, all episode of “Echo” will drop at once on Nov. 29. “Loki” Season 2 will premiere Oct. 6

At least we have a date…

How do I explain to you people that interracial relationships are okay

Not every white person dating a POC is fetishizing. White people can be respectful and responsible when it comes to culture and relationships and not everyone has bad intentions.

Asian people can date Black people without you saying shit like “your kids will be so pretty” they’re not dating for pretty kids. They’re dating bc they like each other.

Someone can dress their partner in clothing from their culture if they want. Someone can take their partner to cultural events if they want.

People in relationships can share cultures, experiences and love without it being toxic or skin deep.

Their partner isn’t culturally appropriating. Their partner is being shown the ultimate form of love, bc their partner trusts them and loves them enough to share their history and heritage.

Yeah, dating someone from your culture is nice bc you automatically have similar experiences. But you’re not limited to dating people with the same experiences. Loving someone is sharing and growing and being together.

Interracial relationships aren’t always toxic, and some of y’all need to stop projecting onto other people.

👆 THIS 👆 👏👏👏

Calling ineterracial relationships toxic or fetishizing just seem like anti race mixing or racism with extra steps

This reminded me of this

I'm thinking that the person had their facts mixed up, especially since they've apparently deleted their tweets about it. I mean it's possible I just don't see it though. Zawe was in Margate, rethinking life. A year before DvT, Tom was preforming Hamlet and Zawe shot Wanderlust. If they started dating early/spring of 2018 I could see Bonnie saying "they've been dating about a year," "almost a year," etc and it getting misconstrued from there.

Avatar

Yeah, she must have been mixed up

I still feel like the Pinter Gala Polaroid (and possibly DvT) was meant to be a soft launch of the fact that they were seriously dating, and they went back underground when the creepy fans flipped out and started showering her with racist abuse. Spring/summer of 2018 seems more likely to me for that reason, though it’s possible they started talking earlier but didn’t really start dating because their schedules didn’t mesh until a few months later.

I think the Pinter Polaroid was after they’d had the exclusivity talk and decided that the relationship had long-term potential.

(Yes, adults in their 30s check in with each other and actively decide that they’re both going to be exclusive, or both poly, or whatever works for their relationship. At that age, everyone’s too old to play bullshit does s/he really like me or not games).

I love it when you can pick up an animator’s quirks.

I’ve read in old interviews with Milt Khal’s fellow animators that he did the swaggle to purposefully show off. Moving the head in 3-d space is an exceptionally hard thing to do but Khal upped the level of difficulty to a place many animators wouldn’t go.      Not only are they all doing the swaggle you’ll notice they are all TALKING while they are doing it. This is back in the days where you had to use a timing sheet to pace your animation and a head swaggle doesn’t work if its too slow or too fast so he had to figure out the right speed so it looked natural while the character finishes what they have to say while not interfering with the distinct mouth shapes.       Not only did Khal do it without any shifting weight problems or timing issues he would often do it while moving the rest of the body. This isn’t his signature move just because he was good at it.This is his signature move because he was one of the only people skilled enough to DO IT AT ALL.

Milt Khal was a MASTER.

God, I can’t express to you how fucking DELIGHTED I become whenever they Milt Khal Head Swaggle Post graces my dash with its presence again.

Sorry, I’ve gotta be that jerk: KAHL. Not Khal.

According to Amanda Marcotte, writing for Salon:

During his CNN "town hall" last week, Donald Trump offered a lip service denial that he had sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll in the 90s when asked about the recent court verdict affirming he did it. He soon shifted, however, to the message he really wanted to send: A winking admission that he did it. "What kind of a woman meets somebody and brings them up and within minutes you're playing hanky panky in a dressing room?" he said, blaming Carroll for the assault as the audience laughed approvingly. He ranted about how she has a cat named "Vagina," implying that she's a slut who deserved to be raped.  The MAGA audience ate it up, making it clear that they agree with Trump that rape is a hilarious punishment to inflict on women for "crimes" like being independent or sexual. [emphasis added]

I hadn't watched the "town hall." This is the first time I heard the specifics of what Trump said about what happened with E. Jean Carroll.

He absolutely admitted that he did it! I hope if she takes him to court again for his continued defamation, that this is used as an admission of guilt by Trump.

But the article goes on to talk about the misogyny of the religious right, in lots of detail. Here are some excerpts:

These days, it's not just Trump reclaiming his pride in the "grab 'em by the pussy remarks." Recently, the Christian right has been letting the "pro-woman" mask slip, sometimes all the way off, revealing the truth too many in the mainstream press would rather ignore: The Christian right is about misogyny. It was always about misogyny.  Last week, Democrats in Louisiana introduced a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state's abortion ban. Republicans didn't just kill the bill, they went out of their way to broadcast their contempt for the rape survivors who showed up to testify in favor of it. Audrey Wascome, who survived incest and rape in her childhood and adolescence, spoke to Jezebel about her experience as a witness:
As Wascome detailed years of sexual abuse at the hands of her grandparents, she says one Republican was rolling their eyes at her.  In Texas, the lawyer who wrote the state's "bounty hunter" abortion ban, Republican activist and former Texas solicitor general Jonathan Mitchell, has rolled out the first major test case of the law. What is remarkable is that the plaintiff is such a mustache-twirling villain, that you would almost think he was a fictional character. Marcus Silva is clearly angry that his ex-wife thought she had a right to leave him. To get his revenge, he is suing her two good friends because they helped her abort a pregnancy. Silva claims to believe he "lost" a child, but the countersuit filed by her friends tells a different story. Instead, they allege, after Silva found the pills in his ex-wife's purse, he carefully returned them so that she would have the abortion. His reason? According to text messages submitted into evidence, he wanted blackmail material. They allege that he told her that if she didn't submit in "mind, body, and soul" to him, he would turn her over to the police [emphasis added]

The article is well worth reading because of the other examples they give of the Christian Right's misogyny.

Anyone who’s surprised to hear this wasn’t paying attention during the 2016 election. It was pretty much misogynist and racist dogwhistles 24/7, and it was disheartening how many alleged “leftists” gleefully participated. 😡

Musicians left devastated as Brexit takes toll on travel for gigs | The National

Last month, members of a Ukrainian orchestra were refused visas to perform at shows promoted on a UK Government website as an example of UK/Ukrainian relations.

🤡

The longer this season of “Ted Lasso” goes on, the less I can defend it. I knew it was a mistake for them to break up Roy and Keeley, and it’s only gone downhill from there. 😡

I’m starting to get nervous that they’re going to stick Keeley back with Jamie, because TV shows have this weird desire to always put female characters back into the first relationship they’re shown in. Not sure if it’s a subconscious desire to prove they’re not slutty or what, but it’s annoying. And the season has dragged out way too long for it to be satisfying to put Roy and Keeley back together.

now that I am thinking of it the “strong female character” discourse perpetual motion machine has honestly done terrible damage to how people write female characters, especially in YA books, because it encouraged people to write individual characters in terms of things that were generally wanted or needed among female characters.

so reader A wants women who are independent, so I’ll make my protagonist independent. reader B wants women who are strong, so she’s also strong. Reader C wants women who are feminine, so she’s feminine, but reader D wants women who are not traditionally feminine, so she isn’t too feminine, and reader E wants women who don’t need a man, so we’re going to avoid focusing on romance, but reader F wants women who are sexually independent, so we’re still going to have her be sexually active and explicitly not give a shit about her virginity, and it keeps going and keeps going.

and what you end up with is a bunch of characters that exhibit a limited range of qualities because few people want to write women that strongly contradict *any* of the things people want from female characters, because we’ve been reading it like every single female character has to individually model what a Good Female Character should be like, and the majority of YA protagonists are vaguely the same level of feminine, independent, vulnerable, skilled, clever, and sexual, and it’s actually suffocating

There used to be this concept going around called the “Galbrush Paradox.” To find the original text...

It’s a little angry, haha. But the point is there. Basically: There is a perception that with female characters, a woman must be representative of women as an entire demographic. There is no such perception with that in male characters. And this is bad; out of well-meaning concern for women as a demographic, it stifles what kind of female characters can be created, and that in turn sort of pushes female characters further into specific niches

Okay this is the best thing I've read all day thank you for showing me.

....huh

One of the best ways to counteract this is to have multiple characters of that identity in the story so you can individualize them, but a lot of (mostly but not always white and/or male) writers don’t think of that solution. If you have four female characters, you can divide those characteristics up among them, but if there’s only one, you end up with the pile-up problem.

Add more characters who have the same racial or gender identity and it’s way easier to fix the problem.

Every so often there's some big discourse about the Realities Of Dating and every single time I'm just left wondering why absolutely anyone bothers. It just sounds exhausting.

Which is admittedly probably not super sympathetic coming from someone who'd be happily opting out even in ideal circumstances, but still. Seems bleak!

honest allo answer: I don't think most people meet their eventual partner(s) through ritualistic, formalized dating. many people don't bother- they opt out, or they never had to go for it to begin with

I think most people who want a relationship meet their eventual partners through serendipity - you're in the same classes in high school or college; you're co-workers; you're social media mutuals; you're friends of a friend, or you see someone intriguing in public and ask if they want to hang out.

"Dating"- especially in the apps-ending-in-dr sense, but even in the old-fashioned 'going out to a singles bar and seeing what's there' sense- is what you do when when you've run out of spontaneous options. it's essentially this:

...but applied to human connection.

of course dating sucks. just like how when you watch random anime, for every good Hidden Gem, you find 24290232 Titty Anime and vehicles for d-grade actors... when you date, you've got to deal with a bunch of people who can't get dates.

I did meet my now-husband through a personal ad I placed on a now-defunct website that was owned by Conde Nast.

He was either the 14th or 15th date from that site I went on, I can't remember which.

And then, after we started dating, we discovered the huge number of ways in which our paths had crossed while attending the same program at the same college at the same time.

This is cracking me up..why on earth did they delete his response in the movie!? hes so offended LOL

I don’t know why it cracks me up so much that Han’s first reaction is not to attack, or to protect Leia, but to hold her back, clearly assuming that she’s just going to fling herself into the middle of a dozen armored Stormtroopers and start trying to kill them with her bare hands.

Han, carefully lightly pushing Leia back so that she doesn’t go all Tusken Massacre on the crowd: hang on, “scum” is the best insult you can come up with?

His indignation is my favourite thing in the world

Note the stormtrooper on the right who backs off after a single glare from Leia. 😂
