this thought comes from someone who has no idea how Judaism works, but okay. People avoid writing out God’s name, because you aren’t ever allowed to destroy or desecrate something with God’s name on it - you have to bury it instead. That’s what a genizah is. The most well known is probably the Cairo Genizah. It’s a box where Jews can put anything with God’s name on it to ensure that it gets buried. So obviously Jews do write out God’s name. In fact, it used to be traditional to mark the top of pages with God’s name as a kind of blessing or mark of honesty. That’s why there are so many miscellaneous texts in genizahs. Judaism reads “do not use my name in vain” pretty literally as a command to revere and respect the Y-H-V-H name of God. Most rabbis agree that this commandment only holds for the hebrew, so not typing out God is more something people do out of respect or as a nod to this tradition. Some people use G-d because they want to parallel the fact that the tradition was put in place for people who would be speaking and writing in hebrew or a very near identical language like Aramaic.

It’s a matter of respect, not a matter of “don’t do this or you will be punished.” Besides, Judaism deals almost exclusively with punishment in life and Judaism very explicitly doesn’t have a clear and codified notion of עולם הבא (the world to come). And there is certainly no notion of hell. Also, Judaism is not nearly that harsh in response to small mistakes. We have a holiday every year explicitly devoted to the idea that we all fuck up and that we need to ask forgiveness from each other and God (and during which God does all the judging - God doesn’t wait until after we die. It’s an active thing that can be constantly adjusted). Maybe world religions is not the best topic of contemplation during your shower.

Judaism isn’t Christianity minus Jesus. We don’t have a messiah that is suppose to be a demigod (I know that is not how is defined, it just sounds like a demigod,) we don’t have hell, we don’t have the concept of original sin.

November is National Novel Writing Month! Many people use this as an opportunity to work on their novels or any piece of work with intense focus.

We at Fellowship of the Fics believe that we can use this time to work on our epic fanfics! The event for this month is simple. Set a wordcount goal for yourself (10k, 25k, 50k, 100k!, etc.) and spend the month of November trying to accomplish that goal.

The purpose of this is get the words down. They don't have to be perfect; you can always go back later and edit to your heart's desire. This is an opportunity to get a first draft - or at least a significant portion of it - without focusing too much on frivolous things like quality and plot holes ;)

Multiple empires have controlled the region in the past two thousand years. You're not talking about the most recent one or it's role in the current situation. Can you even name it?

Do you know what percentage of Israel is Muslim?

During the initial formation of Israel, approximately 700k Palestinians were expelled from their homes. How many Jews were expelled from their homes in the neighboring MENA countries during that same time period?

Since you don't like to count Jews as a race (a topic for another post) what racial group makes up the majority of Israel's population?

To be clear, I'm not saying Israel is blameless in all of this, especially the current government. But if you are really here to support the Palestinian people and not just hate on Jews? You should know the other parties involved and pass at least some of the blame on them. Oh and then there's the current and ongoing genocide of Muslims in China. I've seen some posts in support of them, but I haven't seen any liberals chanting "gas the Chinese".

Did I get anything wrong in my post? Quite possibly. it's 5am and I can't sleep and this region has been in conflict since before Jews or Muslims existed. It's got a long complicated history and it's why prior to the most recent attacks you'll barely find any posts on my blog about it. But people are pretending like the Jews should just pack up and go home as if there aren't Jews currently living there who were literally forced out of their homes and told to "go home to Israel" 75 years ago or Jews who have always lived there and like those same people aren't also very clearly showing that Jews don't have a safe home in any other country we may have ties to.

The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.

I have never before heard of Everett True, but if he “regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude,” I have a strong spiritual connection with him.
