The Cranes Are Flying (1957)
Dir. Mikhail Kalatozov
I was just talking about this movie.
Abel Gance & Albert Dieudonné on the set of “Napoléon”
More Seeger sibilngs on deck in case you need to wedge in some last minute banjo and whistlin'.
One of my favorite Christmas albums. Sweet and gentle. Perfect if your Christmas is feeling a little weighed down in tinsel.
1938 Macy’s Day Parade
What is this nightmare?!?
Since all movies are now just adaptations of blogs, TV shows, and video games can we get started already on King’s Quest and the entire Sierra catalog. Thanks.
I wouldn't mind hearing a big band arrangement of "Knocking on Heaven's Door."
Sergio Leone & Ennio Morricone in Primary School
The knives were legal through the early 1950s and might have stayed that way, if not for a national backlash against their close cousin, the now-infamous switch
A good article from the Village Voice a couple weeks back. There’s basically no such thing as a legal pocket knife in NYC because it’s entirely up to the cops’ discretion what constitutes a "gravity knife." Tie that in to stop and frisk and I bet you can guess how that works out. There's a good part in there about defense lawyers trying to call in physicists as expert witnesses.
