so ummmm the last edit i did for cass’s apocalyptic series got so much love omg you guys have been so sweet <3 and since i’ve been stuck on a plane for the past six hours, here’s the byproduct of that!! enjoy!

Draxum got Sunflower to use as the prototype for the mutation experiments. It didn’t work immediately, since the Lou Jitsu DNA sample was not direct. (It was like, a piece of his hair that was on a costume that Draxum got in one of those “random pieces of celebrity clothing” charity auctions.)
He was disappointed but he still took care of her. She was basically a pet. When she started speaking, however, that’s when he realized the experiment worked. (She could only babble like a toddler, but it worked.) He let her watch as many movies as she wanted to so she could be constantly exposed to language. With captions on, too, so she could learn how to read.
The other turtles were bought from Big Mama late one night when Draxum was getting ready to experiment again, and Sunflower mumbled something about wanting siblings. Five turtles at different ages… oh. One was still an egg? Draxum decided to keep it with him until it hatched and stuff.
Sunflower and the other turtles didn't really know each other because the timeline speeds up here. They met, yeah, but they were unmutated. They talked a little bit in animal noises but Sunflower had been exposed to human language more so she had pretty much no idea what was going on.
Uh skipping the baby turtle dynamics because it was really boring……. They were just. Babies.
One day, there was a small explosion with a different experiment, you don’t have to worry about it (Draxum was trying to cook food using a bunsen burner…. You know how it is) and unfortunately Sunflower was taken away from Draxum and sent to an…. Orphanage? Pet shelter? I don’t know exactly where she would have gone but then she gets adopted by a shapeshifter living in the hidden city that is my self-insert and Sunny gets raised like a human from there on.
Meanwhile! Draxum pours his attention into his experiment with Lou Jitsu, hoping that the other turtles will be to be the ~~children~~ mystic warriors he wants. The egg is almost ready to hatch, he can tell. But then the big lab explosion happens, blah blah canon stuff, and the egg fell into the mutation tank and he’s afraid he lost it.
During the cleanup, an agent of the council of heads finds a baby turtle whee the egg was and decides to give it to a human scientist whom this random agent knew and trusted. Nobody trusted Draxum anymore.
CUE THE NEXT THIRTEEN YEARS OF DRAXUM BEING VERY SAD BECAUSE HE HAS LOST ALL SIX KIDS.
First, he finds out that the babiest turtle is living in the space station and has been named Venus! Then he finds out Sunflower is an archery competitor. He wants to get them back but the humans refuse.
THEN episode one happens. From there, we find out Sunflower met the ninja as online friends and they all meet up at like a robotics convention or something, blah blah baxter stockman, blah blah there was an IDW comic I read about Donnie that was why I wanted to make my oc in the first place. I think it was a one-off special.
There we go, Sunflower’s BACKSTORY. Her lore from then is that she just starts living with the family but stays at home most of the time because she was injured and she doesn’t know what she’s even supposed to do to help. I need to watch the rest of Rise to make more sense with canon but yeah!

Also her staying at home rather than out fighting crime with her siblings is yet another take that intrigued me!! Dgmw, I love it when I find sibling readers and they're ofc out and about fighting crime and kicking butt with their born and bred top notch ninja skillz! But this is interesting too. A complete opposite; not entirely wittingly, I assume! But it's different and I personally, really like it :3

Ah this is one of my favorite parts! Not only did they meet at a convention, it was on accident! Sunny was there to get pictures of something that Donnie had said he wanted to go see. She didn’t know he was gonna be there. But during one of the panels, she asks a question that she’s already asked him before and he answers it before the speaker can! Cue both of them gasping loudly and standing up, then leaving the room.
Raph, Mikey, and Leo stay for the rest of the panel because it’s kind of interesting. (More like they were waiting for Donnie to return because he’s the one with the map, lol)
Sunny and Donnie yell at each other for a good minute in excitement, then to her surprise, he pulls her in for a hug.
However, the hug gets interrupted by a nearby demonstration exploding. The story from this comic happens but Sunflower is right beside Donnie nearly the entire time.

Oh, and Sunflower staying at home has more to it as well besides her recovering from the injury! She’s not a skilled fighter, and would tell you she isn’t even very good at archery. She has a LOT of self-doubt, especially when it comes to the ninpo magic.
There is a whole thing about Sunflower realizing that Splinter really is the same person as Lou Jitsu. It’s not official yet but she had a hard time believing it, or that he was even… Alive. She absolutely grew up thinking that he died in the big explosion.

If all the other TMNT iterations have been remembered for years, why the FUCK do you think we'll automatically have our minds erased from knowing about Rise???
JUST because it got cancelled, or paused, or whatever after Season 2???
HELL no.
Especially with all of us here constantly making fanart and trying to convince Nickelodeon and Netflix to bring back Rise, there's no way we're gonna forget about it.
Maybe when it was still brand-new, maybe, but it's been around for almost 5 years now, it's officially part of the franchise and we like it that way.
So just because a new iteration dropped (that I honestly wanna go and see), it doesn't mean that we're gonna get brainwashed and forget about the show that the majority of us TMNT fans know and love.
