anders dragonage is such a character. he has a clinic in a sewer. he wears feathers. he’s both tainted and possessed. he occasionally glows. he’s the reason mages aren’t allowed to leave the tower for PE. he came up with a cat name before he got a cat. he’s bad at spelling. he blew up a church. he has a “controversy” section on his wikipedia page, but the controversy in question is him being way too into men for gamer dudebros in 2011 to handle, not the fact that he blew up a church. he has a wikipedia page
What I love about Origins specifically is that all of the main characters are dead.
The Warden canonically dies if they are not recruited. Joining the Wardens severely shortens your lifespan, it is also considered a functional, spiritual, symbolic death to the point where recruitment is used as an alternative to the death penalty. Alistair & the Warden are both dead. Leliana is described (and self describes!) as having died while in Raleigh's dungeon, when she kills him in Leliana's song it is presented as her taking revenge for a person who no longer exists, she is "reborn" through the Chantry. Sten is dead in the eyes of his people & cannot return home due to the loss of his sword, and on top of that accepted a death penalty in exchange for the people he killed in Lothering. Zevran accepting the contract to kill the warden was a self-admitted suicide attempt, and if the Crows find him they'll kill him, so he is euphemistically "a dead man". Shale's previous self was destroyed physically, and they cannot remember her or being her. Wynne should be dead, but Faith is keeping her going (for now). Going to the surface is considered a spiritual death in Orzammarian culture, Oghren cut himself off from the Stone when he went with you. Morrigan isn't dead but she is pretty doomed. Even the dog is dying when you meet it. Everyone in that party camp is dead in some way. This is a ghost story.
last night @squeaksquawks was complaining about how in inquisiton they toned down the elf swears, and said this merrill misquote that put me in tears
