Subtle things I found in Puss in Boots 2 that blew my fucking mind Part 3
Death is the only character in the main cast who doesnt have his own identifiable wanted poster. However, first time you meet him, he takes out a wanted poster of Puss and he points exactly to Dead, which was his way of revealing his identity.
Death is also the only character of the main cast who doesn't show up on the Wishing Star map since he is not affected by the mortal realm.
There are a surprising numbe of references to Disney IP in this Dreamworks film. In the corner of the screen in the Pocket Full of Poseies scene you see a magic broom running away, a nod to Fantasia. The bag Jack Horner is using is a reference to Mary Poppins, as Jack says it's a "magic nanny bag", and even showed Mary Poppin's umbrella.
The way Jack Horner uses the phoenix as a flamethrower is a reference to Banjo Kazooie. Also the phoenix is crying while he's doing it poor thing :(
In the borrowed books card of Goldi's favourite book you can see the name Humpty Dumpty at the bottom of the list, a nod to the first Puss in Boots movie.
Ethical Bug actually loses a leg when Jack Horner flicks him off, which you can see him missing one at the end of the film
Puss' clothes actually take damage as the film goes on, as his cape slowly gets teared by the wolf and in the final battle even his shoe is ripped. However in the epilogue he has a new set of shoes and cape.
I've watched this movie like 6 times already and the amount of subtle detail and easter eggs is insane and I'm still finding more. What an incredibly well written and well excuted film please PLEASE go watch it and support movies like this. When films like this do well, just like Spiderverse did, it influences the way animation studios make films for the future and Puss in Boots 2 is a shining example of how supporting films you love can help make a difference in the animation industry. It's worth the watch in every way so do it.
