How The Abominable Bride Foreshadowed and Can Be Used to Chronologically Decode Series 4, the larger narrative of the show, and what’s coming next.

Featured: See Looking Closer at TAB Timeline for in-depth look at individual comparisons.
At the end of TAB –– after Sherlock has spent an entire episode plunging into his mind and subconscious –– he comes face to face with Moriarty at the Reichenbach falls. Instead of the story going the way it always has before, the ending changes. John shows up and saves John by stopping Moriarty. In Sherlock’s eyes, this was a sign to himself that he needed to open up to John about how much he loves him in order to defeat Moriarty returning. At the time we thought that the waterfall scene was going to be the future of the show, if not the immediate future, with the big reveal happening in series 4, but TAB was setting up much larger ambitions for the narrative of the show. It turns out that TAB was a general roadmap for where the series was going to go in series 4, with the waterfall ending being reserved for the endgame.
Series 4 features doctored footage, memory altering drugs, interrupted noir films, and a note left behind with a hidden message, along with many other elements and details in its ridiculous James Bond globe trotting adventures, Hannibal Lecter psychosexual torment, and a Shutter Island murder prison, all in a desperate effort to obscure the real story. That’s because series 4 is a narrative being told by John Watson, just like the original stories. John is telling a story that is covering up the truth: the two biggest events being Mary’s “death” and himself being shot. But John can’t help but let things slip out; as much as he tries to wrangle the story together and present a clean plot, his own internal biases, beliefs, cultural references, and perspective betrays him, as John is visible in every aspect of series 4, just like how Sherlock is present in every imagined aspect of The Abominable Bride.
Sherlock’s dream and John’s story. Sherlock’s dream is a journey into his deepest fears and desires while chasing Moriarty’s ghost, which ends on a hopeful and optimistic note. John’s story is a dark mirror and denial of that vision where he is haunted by Mary’s ghost and is seemingly unable to escape the fate of the “Samarra” story –– in each episode, at every point, John can be seen mirroring the same scenarios that Sherlock devises in his dream, informing us of characterizations, themes, and plot points that can used to be uncover the truth behind what really happened in the unfiltered events of series 4. When comparing the timeline of TAB and series 4, a larger theme emerges and the driving narrative of the show becomes clear; Moriarty and Mary both faked their own deaths and are the villains, John is covering up the truth of what really went down after Moriarty’s return, and he ends the series 4 writing a fake happy ending, with a sinister and self-hating subtext moving just underneath it, as John and Sherlock’s relationship becomes frozen in time, guarded by Mary’s presence and unable to progress. Series 4 is a false catharsis of plot threads, character arcs, and narrative goals, and we are currently at the crisis point in the overall story as something terrible is being hidden by John’s nightmare. The story is still the same and nothing has changed –– yet.
The resolution that’s coming will be a version of the Reichenbach falls scene… but before John and Sherlock can get there, the truth of what really happened, and of what John and Sherlock really feel for each other, will have to burn away the lies and finally culminate in the realization that they both love each other and can defeat Mary and Moriarty together.

Her behavior is making headlines and this isn’t even like a real article where anyone bothered putting any effort into looking beyond the scandal, it’s just conservative bait she can easily weasel out of. The truth is much worse and there should be more evidence here.

She’s been tweeting and liking transphobic posts for years, including recently talking about trans women in prison, liking tweets 1. mocking non-binary people 2. saying the death of a trans teenage girl was NOT a hate crime and trans activists are taking advantage of the opportunity, and 3. supporting detransitioner narratives, follows tons of other terfs and added the gender critical colors to her bio after HER BOSS said everyone should just use people’s pronouns. She’s been open about being a terf ever since crawling back after her meaningless apology LAST TIME this happened.

If any real journalist on terf island or not bothered putting five minutes of work into investigating her very obvious behavior they’d see it doesn’t matter that she claims she doesn’t have problems with the “legitimate” trans community that she very surprisingly never says anything positive about or that she can’t be transphobic because her son is in a play about drag, she’s been openly radicalized into a hate movement and willingly engaging in a culture war bent on “eradicating transgenderism” and removing trans people from public life in front of hundreds of thousands of people who can SEE WHAT SHE’S DOING.

It’s cool how the tumblrmart button replacing the blog button has rendered this app borderline unusable.

Big day for Amanda… after falling for conservative bait for one of the most notoriously transphobic broadcasters in the UK, she proceeded to act innocent when people criticized her, as if she didn’t add the gender critical colors to her profile after her boss said to use people’s pronouns, then liked, replied to, and followed all the terfs in her mentions defending her tweet, and later on liked an anti-vax “natural immunity” video critical of the “liberal media” bias on covid from Bill Maher.

Anonymous asked:

so amanda is homophobic too? there's some news (to me at least, i thought she only hated trans people)

She doesn’t think she is, and would argue she’s a strong supporter, because her curated feed is full of reactionary gay people who’ve radicalized not wanting to sleep with with trans people into their entire political ideologies and their conservative allies.

Most of the time whenever I go to an account I see people dunking on for either wildly republican, conservative, homophobic or transphobic tweets, arguing for traditional gender roles or expulsion of lgbtq people from public life, Amanda is already following them. Small accounts, big accounts, obviously offensive profiles or not, it could be any awful semi-viral tweet and she’s there.

Six years with the people who stuck around after two weeks of the most intense theory work I’ve ever seen and the hysterical night of the russian leaks and after when our stomachs sank because the episode still opened on a close up of someone’s eye anyway 🙏 It’s been rough sometimes but after the initial shock wore off I’ve never doubted where the story is obviously going, and that has entirely to do with the humor and big brains of all the people here. So thanks to everyone who’s stuck around and kept us all coming back to talk about and engage with the labyrinth that is series 4. Even though it might feel like we’ve said everything there is to say and are just waiting for a renewal the truth is there’s always more, and I treasure the relative peace we have now, especially in comparison to the storm that’s coming.

TJLC is like terfs which is like gamergate which is like qanon… meaningless and wrong and stupid as shit. The FUCKING irony of this worthless drivel coming from people who complain about how modern sherlock is a bad detective who doesn’t follow deductive reasoning — what logical trail of clues did you follow to arrive at your insane conclusion?

You all are genuinely so fucking stupid… this post has over 24,000 notes. It’s easily the dumbest thing I’ve read on here in years. This website is full of the most confidently wrong people on the internet and it’s astonishing the LEAPS you will make to say shit like this.

It's sincerely fascinating to me that 6 whole years have passed since s4 and the internet has only gotten infinitely worse about the show.

It is fascinating but it’s also exactly what I expected and have watched happen. I would be shocked and gagged if the response was somehow lukewarm or cold and remote at worst — it HAS to be this evil cartoon that’s mutated in their minds for this long, it has to be, somehow, the worst tv show ever made that also killed their grandmother, it’ll make the twist that much more iconic.
