The Bird Daughters. A comic about a bird woman and her dreams. made in the spring of 2023.
I'm not feeling well which means you all need to fight over my inheritance.
tbh my inheritance is mostly comprised of my beloved car, a ridiculous amount of comic book figures, and the world's largest collection of premium nipple clamps.
What differentiates regular from premium here?
who wants to go with me to pillage hell
Some character designs with some…atypical color choices? I guess. I don’t know what’s going on in that area.
This is Nimona and her supervillain friend (He doesn’t have a name yet, I’m working on that). Nimona is his sidekick/squire, they’re like the Batman and Robin of slightly Medieval villains, but she’s actually way more evil than him. He does what he does to make a point, and he doesn’t really want anyone get hurt - Nimona just gets a kick out of destroying stuff.
I’m going to attempt to make a two page comic with them? We’ll see how this goes.
This was tagged #homework and posted in December 2011.
I've seen a lot of adults who weren't quite happy with Nimona. They didn't think it was funny, or they thought the ending was too simplistic, or they preferred the more nuanced way the comic handled the themes. And these are all valid complaints! I haven't finished the comic yet but it is a much more mature and complex story than the movie, and I know already it's had a bigger impact on me than the movie. But, you know what, I just watched Nimona with my twelve year old sister, and she adored it! She thought Nimona was a fantastic character, she laughed the whole time, she made us re-watch the scene with the squire and the demon baby.
She also gagged and made faces whenever Bal and Ambrosius were affectionate with each other, because she has been taught by our parents and her pastor that being queer is something disgusting and sinful. I actually had to pause the movie at one point and tell her to stop, because it was disrespectful.
Nimona was not made for queer adults. The comic was written for us, the comic tells our story. But the movie is a kids movie, made for queer kids, yes. But also made for kids like my sister, whose only exposure to queerness is a closeted older sister doing her best and gentle lectures from her parents on why the gays are going to hell.
It's simplistic and it's streamlined and it's not witty so much as it is silly and it's colorful and energetic and exaggerated-- because it's baby's first explicitly queer cinema! It's not an adventure movie with one (1) gay guy in the background, or some subtle queer coding. It's a movie about queerness, about otherness, about how sometimes it's not easier to be a girl. About how sometimes even when you follow all the rules your very existence is still a threat to society.
I hope my sister watches Nimona again. I hope she tells her friends at her Christian school how great a movie it is, even with the gay people. I hope when she is older she reads the comic, and re-watches the movie with new eyes, and thinks about the way she was taught to be disgusted by queer people. I hope she learns to look up to Nimona. I hope she learns to question everything.

HELP
I was reading something about Whitestown, Indiana and my eyes nearly popped out of my head thinking it was one of THOSE comically racist towns. Nice to know, at least the name, wasn’t that.
Racisttown, named after the abolitionist Stopbeing Racist,
That's nothing. Check THIS shit out
WHAT THE HELL
George Washington Hitler and his son Dr. Gay Hitler,
Important
Adding this because they’re safe for dogs too
How are turkey skin and bones not safe? Please elaborate.
Dunno about skin, but Turkey bones, and avian bones in general, are really easy to shatter. If a dog eats said shards, it could tear up their insides.
Important for all pet users!!
The skin is very fatty and can lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and/or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can lead to a very expensive hospital stay, and is quite painful. When in doubt, best not to feed human food.
Important PSA for this (and every) holiday season! As someone with dogs and cats in her life, both of these are nice to have on hand!
Fun treasure looting time with Hancock
So I just got to Stormblood and there's this funny merchant who I'm totally not obsessed with haha
UnitedHealthcare, the largest health insurance company in the US, is allegedly using a deeply flawed AI algorithm to override doctors' judgments and wrongfully deny critical health coverage to elderly patients. This has resulted in patients being kicked out of rehabilitation programs and care facilities far too early, forcing them to drain their life savings to obtain needed care that should be covered under their government-funded Medicare Advantage Plan.
It's not just flawed, it's flawed in UnitedHealthcare's favor.
That's not a flaw... that's fraud.
I work in healthcare, and let me tell you, NO ONE denies care as much, as often or as blatantly badly as UHC. Not a one. It's known in the industry to be one of the worst insurance carriers around. DO NOT sign up for UHC this or any other open enrollment period. (I work in rehab and the things they deny are basic and hugely important to quality of life)
I'm reblogging this again because I realized that I didn't include something important. If you have a plan with UHC (or any carrier, honestly) and you are denied something that you and your care team believe you need, ask your doctor to ask for a "peer to peer" review. This is a process in which the doctor speaks to another doctor in the company. It cannot be handled by AI and cannot be just denied without review by an actual doctor. Peer to peer!

Don’t hide this magnificent piece of info in the tags.
The bloke (Conrad Veidt) was an outspoken opponent of antisemitism, and when he refused to divorce his wife (who was Jewish), Joseph Goebbels had him blacklisted.
He also donated tons and tons of money to poor children who had been negatively effected by the Blitz in London after he moved to the US, following his becoming a naturalised-British citizen after leaving Germany in the 1930s.
Don’t forget that in 1919, he starred in “Different from the Others”, a German film protesting the anti-homosexuality laws in place. It’s widely regarded as the first pro-gay film. Conrad Veidt was a goddamn hero.
I just feel like this pic is relevant to the discussion
He was also the highest paid member of the cast in “Casablanca” (where he played a Nazi officer, again), even if he only got second billing, because he was THAT big a star.
He and his first wife divorced after… well she said it better than I ever could.
“I excused a lot of his failings and whims because I loved him. But one day he did something to me that I couldn’t forgive. I was singing that evening at the cabaret. I left him home and he told me: “I invited a few friends; we’ll dine while we wait for you.” And it just so happened I had received a new dress from Paris. That evening, after work, I arrived home and what do I see? All these gentlemen dressed as women. And Conrad had put on my Paris dress. At this point, I divorced!”
And as Anita Loos put it
“Any Berlin lady of the night might turn out to be a man; the prettiest girl on the street was Konrad [sic] Veidt.”
Good to see the tumblr sexyman precludes even tumblr
It’s important to mention, I think, that he served in WWI on the Eastern front. He became I’ll in the trenches and while recovering joined up with the theater his girlfriend worked for, and spent his recuperation putting on plays for the troops.
He also believed in spiritualism and thought that he himself was a medium.
He was sexy man, Betty Grable, and Alistair Crowley all at once. So…no wonder tumblr likes him so much.
I was unaware of his existence until just now but this is amazing.
However since Crowley was an antisemitic malicious selfish bastard I’d have to say he was the opposite of Crowley.
Fair point. Didn’t know much about Crowley, just that he invented tarot cards and popularized them. I personally stay well away from all of that nonsense. Alright, let’s amend it to a benevolent psychic witch or something. As you like it.
Veidt’s role as Grand Vizier Jafar in “The Thief of Baghdad” (1940) was the inspiration for Disney’s version in the animated “Aladdin”.
His makeup as Gwynplaine in “The Man Who Laughs” (1928) was the inspiration for The Joker.
And his role as Cesare The Somnambulist in “The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari” (1919) was the inspiration for Tim Burton’s…
Well, look at him.
Okay I have no idea how this will go but I'm just going to test it!! No harm done in trying :)
I'm currently into making zines, aka little handmade magazine book things, and one thing I really want to make work about is my anger and frustration about the things that feminine-presenting people, AFAB people, and women experience simply for existing. To help get input on this, I have made a Google form and I would appreciate any responses! It is completely anonymous do not worry :)
Link below, thank you!
Thank you so much :)

Just a couple of dudes reminding you that Aldis Hodge is, in fact, the sexiest man alive. In addition to being a horologist, he's also a painter and a violinist. He also went to school for architecture.
