"He said " the cops won't suspect someone from another world" and "i have to rid myself of the poet of gods to go home" and then he left through a portal"
“So I’m guessing it’s, like, a mythology book or something? that he may have gotten by suspicious means?”

You should've brought a flashlight, or a phone. Anyways. You wandered blindly, somehow avoiding not to get hit by a car or run into someone. Before you know it, you've stumbled across an abandoned house. The place looked like it was falling apart, windows boarded up, all that kinda thing
It's probably not a good idea to enter...but what choice do you have? So you went in...
