on one side there's people commenting on taylor swift's break up and already saying things like she'll never get married or have a family because she's getting old and still "going through all these men" and on other side there's people making rude comments on millie bobby brown's engagement and how she's making a mistake because she's too young and how she's probably only getting married to "cover up a pregnancy"

and I just wonder at what age do we let women make decisions that are right for them without scrutinizing their every move and without judging every single decision they make

personally if i was a thirty year old woman and every time my relationship status changed there were articles chronicling all my boyfriends dating back to high school i would have committed several felonies, so i think taylor has shown unparalleled levels of restraint

For anyone who believes that Azula had more agency and control over her actions to the point she could've objected to things like Zuko's banishment or the campaign to raze everything in the Earth Kingdom to ground...

Just remember what happened to the last family member who mouthed off to Ozai.

Suddenly a 14-year old raised under an abusive father's household doesn't really have much agency as she likes people to believe.

I think its really funny how in avatar, Zuko is told he's wrong, refuses to acknowledge it for as long as humanly possible and is still given chance after change to do better, meanwhile the narrative tells *US* Azula is wrong, never once informs Azula of this wrongness, and still punishes her was praising Zuko

When will creators of famous and beloved franchises realise that no fan in the history of fandoms has wanted the sequel with the new generation to have higher stakes and more angsty drama than the original.

A Fan: Wow, can’t wait to see the heroes’ children living in a world that has been made better by the original heroes, having a loving and respectful relationship with the hero I loved and respected as a child, and dealing with their own adventure that might not be as high stake as saving the world, but is important for their own personal journey. 

A creator: How about the world is ending again, the new generation hates the heroes, who have become major assholes for no reason, and everything is bigger and goes more boom.  

Hobbit/Lord of the Rings is the SINGLE exception to higher stakes sequel

and you know why? it’s bc nothing in lotr undid what happened in the hobbit

the hobbit was a lower-stakes story about bilbo helping some dwarves reclaim their ancestral home, and in lotr (the book at least) tolkien goes out of his way to talk about how bilbo lived for a long time rich and famous and happy, and that erebor and dale are prosperous and successful. the threat is something that bilbo brought home with him, but if bilbo hadn’t found it, it would have fallen into worse hands. 

the reason why higher-stakes sequels are so often disappointing is bc it’s a betrayal of the original work, and undoes its premise and its victory. in the hobbit, they were never setting out to save the whole of middle earth, so the fact that the whole of middle earth ends up in peril during lotr doesn’t feel like a betrayal. terrible things happen in lotr, but they are better than they would have been in the hobbit hadn’t happened, and that’s why it works

adding to this. in a similar vein this is why percy jackson moving into the lost hero worked so well (i can’t remember the name of the series)

not only did it work well with the original myths but it’s not their kids we get to see percy and annabeth be fucking tired of saving the world and what it’s doing to them

they say the end is coming / everyone’s up to something / i find myself running home to your sweet nothings / outside they’re pushing and shoving / you’re in the kitchen humming / all that you ever wanted for me was sweet nothing
