OUUHHHHH i didn’t see this message in my inbox! pike’s lore is basically all AU tbh, phineas chose pike from the colonists bc he was an android and therefore wouldn’t suffer the same catastrophic problems from unfreezing that the humans would. he wasn’t frozen but he had been severely damaged by the hope’s crew and was non-functional when phineas found him, so phineas had a new (but easier to contend with) set of issues to work with to get pike working again.
pike extremely considered just fucking off, especially once he realized he could take the unreliable, but he figured he owed phineas for repairing him even though he dumped him into a nightmare scenario in a world he knew nothing about. he has SUSPICIONS that phineas reprogammed him to be more sympathetic to his cause, though phineas denies it entirely (he did).
and of course he falls in hate/love with vicar max.
