Nagisa Kaworu Analysis Superpost

Kaworu’s a fairly enigmatic character both in-universe and Eva’s fandom circles. He does, however have a lot of subtleties which can be easily overlooked by any viewer. This page is a gigantic guide to his character from the anime, the Rebuilds, as well as the games, official and unofficial manga. It also delves into his relationships with other characters (Shinji, Rei, and Asuka). As such it addresses common as well as subtle points of his character and common misconceptions. The pages that aren’t boldfaced are personal analyses I’ve made over the years. Others, marked in bold, belong to others. I’ve also made warnings to the respective links as well.

In hindsight, the theory that only 14 year olds can pilot Eva is sort of silly. Even if you were filter out Asuka’s age in the show being 13 and Ritsuko explaining that Eva sync rates aren’t affected by physiological factors (i.e. hormones) it’s a really glaring design flaw. Imagine fighting an angel on the eve of your birthday…only for it to conk out mid-combat because you’ve been fighting the creature so long that you’re 15 now. That’s a hindrance that would put the 5 minutes off-the-charger to shame!

I think we’re SUPPOSED to think at first that it HAS to be kids because of how they keep saying “I wish we didn’t have to use these kids” but it’s eventually revealed that it’s less to do with that and more “actually it has to be these SPECIFIC kids, we just have to start sooner than we’d like to”

This is a good explanation! I think that factors also line up to make some interesting commentary that children are often forced to deal with adult (not always parental, however) issues while juggling their own. Children are unfortunately the product of adult problems, be it emotional issues or being forced to war.

wowie i love vampires and the sophisticated veneer of the uppercrust. i love that they often hold power over other members of the undead because they aren’t solely driven by wanton destruction. they have overreaching dominion giving the illusion of being ‘just plain better’ but with how their being manifests as power + wealth they’re possibly the most brutal things to exist. also vampires hot.
