The IOC will profit off of the image and accomplishments of black athletes, including Smith and Carlos in recent years, but it is fundimentally a racist organization.

I just want to add: Peter Norman, the white Australian who won second place, was also punished and highly criticized for openly supporting Carlos and Smith. He not only wore a Olympic Project for Human Rights Pin (something that the official Olympics did not fully agree with), but he also supplied the gloves Carlos and Smith wore to protest.

His career was utterly destroyed after this, and they refused to let him qualify for the games in Munich. So even peripherally supporting people interested in human rights is something the IOC won't support.
