@actually-yakob

I cannot put into words how much I Fucking Loathe the fact that when you search something on youtube now it will randomly intersperse blocks of "people also watched" and "for you" into the results. That's not what I searched for, youtube. I typed in a search query because I wanted to see search results, not random unrelated garbage you have placed in my way apparently to either inconvenience me or force me to scroll further for actual results. I despise your wretched little games and every time I see it I can only instantly close the tab as I am overcome with the urge to burn something down.

"I despise your wretched little games" perfectly conveys how I feel about the entire algorithm/attention economy

They also refuse to actually show the parameters you searched for. If you sort by “upload date,” the first few videos might be more recent ones by upload date, but anything past that you’ll find a video that was uploaded five years ago, then five months ago, then three years ago, etc, which—NO! That’s NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!! PUT THEM IN ORDER!!!

Also sometimes the “people also watched” bullcrap will not only be entirely unrelated, it will also be videos with violent, sometimes outright triggering thumbnails. I’ve gotten some AWFUL unrelated video thumbnails just when searching for video game music videos.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL

“oh we shouldn’t teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where it’s noisy or they need to be quiet”

My mom learned it because she figured she’ll go deaf when she gets old

My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.

The only reason some form of sign language is not a standard skill is ableism, as far as I can tell.

For anyone interested in learning, Bill Vicars has full lessons of ASL on youtube that were used in my college level classes.

and here’s the link to the website he puts in his videos:

Update: you guys this is an amazing resource for learning asl. Bill Vicars is an incredible teacher. His videos are of him teaching a student in a classroom, using the learned vocabulary to have conversations.

Not only is the conversation format immersive and helpful for learning the grammar, but the students make common mistakes which he corrects, mistakes I wouldn’t have otherwise know I was making.

He also emphasizes learning ASL in the way it’s actually used by the Deaf community and not the rigid structure that some ASL teachers impose in their classrooms

His lesson plans include learning about the Deaf community, which is an important aspect of learning ASL. Knowing how to communicate in ASL without the knowledge of the culture behind it leaves out a lot of nuances and explanations for the way ASL is.

Lastly, his lessons are just a lot of fun to watch. He is patient, entertaining, and funny. This good natured enthusiasm is contagious and learning feels like a privilege and not a chore

And it’s all FREE. Seriously. If you’ve ever wanted to learn ASL

Fighting to survive the day without the love and support of a dragongirl gf with big boobs and a huge slappy tail

Truly, God gives His hardest battles to His strongest soldiers

Look, all I'm saying is that I deserve cuddles and kisses from a dragongirl with big bouncy jugs and a tail that can obliterate an M-1 Abrams in a single blow

hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate

BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard (under My Filters) to get rid of it!

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

reblog to help keep the internet less annoying and to tell corporations that try shit like this to go fuck themselves <3

So I posted these two images that I made in a post together just shy of a year ago, and the post got 10,000+ notes. Today I saw a meme with a text convo of someone sending one of them to a military recruiter (which is extremely funny) and I thought “oh I should find that post again”

but when I went to find it, it had completely vanished. not just the original post, but even reblogs of it. I couldn’t even find screenshots anyone had taken of the original post. it wasn’t brought to my attention as a reported post, tumblr never even contacted me about deleting it, it just… disappeared

Image

really gets the noggin joggin

so that’s the line huh tumblr. that old post just went too far and you had to poof it.

Reblog to remember the post before it gets deleted again

Concepts like sex magic and fertility deities in fantasy are actually really interesting to me as a person with a lot of interest in anthropology and mythology like Yes I am curious about the weird sex that elves have but its pretty much exclusively explored by authors who are Weird Horny Dudes and forget about putting that stuff into a d&d campaign

Oh we’re talking about sex in fantasy settings are we?

Oh, famed fantasy author Ed Greenwood! So good to see you, we're having our panel down here in my wine cellar,

WAIT I HAVEN’T FINISHED TELLING YOU HOW THE DROW MATRIARCHS DISCIPLINE THEIR UNRULY MALE CONSORTS

what is your most controversial video game hot take? 🎮🎮🎮

The pursuit for photorealism in games is a fruitless endeavor that only results in bloated file sizes that take too much space

mario is a woman and just really butch

i adore dnd battle mechanics. sitting here preparing for an upcoming combat on thursday like i'm in a fucking wwii war room

so i'm not a DM but i have a few things that i've found make for good combat as a player. i'm also going to tag @why-nathan in here because they're my DM and run the best combats i've ever played in, and they might have some useful tips when they're able to respond

also, obviously YMMV on all of these things, what's fun for me might not be fun for other players, but this is just me talking from my own experience!

for me though, the things that make dnd combat fun are

  1. having everyone in the round describe what they're doing and flavour things in a fun way. this is the biggest tip that made combat fun for me personally. it can get really tedious if everyone is just like "okay, i roll to hit.. okay that's a 17 so that hits.. okay so that's going to do uhhh 8 damage.. okay your turn" like that ends up just kind of being a slog! whereas having each turn be like "okay so i clench my fists and leap up to try and jab them in the stomach, and then as they falter i'm going to try and go for a kick to the knees" or some other more flavourful descriptions makes the rounds feel like a tense, engaging scenario rather than just math. similarly, i think that also makes it more exciting and less frustrating when a character doesn't hit. instead of just being like "yeah you don't meet the AC so your character sucks shit", it can become a situation of like "you fire off an arrow at your enemy, but at the last second they bring the flat of their blade up to deflect it away". i've found this makes players feel less like their character is inept, but instead like they're facing capable opponents. i just find being very descriptive in combat/encouraging your players to do so can be really helpful in general. just asking a few probing questions like "so what does it look like when XYZ casts this spell", or "okay so you've been counterspelled, what happens to this fireball that makes sure it can't hit" can make the rounds both more engaging in general and less frustrating when people don't hit. my big tip for getting practice doing this is just to watch and read things with cool battles in them, whether that's like battle anime or books that describe combat in cool ways. getting a sense of what this can look like can help hone this skill and make combat descriptions awesome.
  2. having some fight where the objectives are not just "hit the enemy until it dies". these can still be very fun, but varying this and shaking it up a bit can make combats feel less like a wargame where your only goal is to chip at HP and more something tense that you have to be present for. for instance, one combat our group had a few sessions ago took place on an airship with some rust monsters- our characters are substantially stronger than those monsters, but what made the fight especially tense is that we were traveling with a couple of young teens who didn't really have a sense of danger yet and were jumping into the fight too, and were at a substantially higher risk than we were. so, we had to not only focus on taking out the monsters, but also making sure to put ourselves between the enemy and the people we were trying to protect, trying to corral them off into specific areas, etc. this made it a lot more tense while also forcing us to kind of think on our feet
  3. having opportunities to be badass and do cool things. one piece of advice that comes up a lot is 'shoot the monk', AKA give your PCs opportunities to do the things they are best at. like, if one of your players chooses to play a barbarian, it's probably because they want the opportunity to tank a lot of hits; your rogue wants to be able to use sneak attack, etc. fire arrows at your monk so they can catch them, force your druid to make wisdom saves, put a problem in your wizard's way that can be solved by a spell you know they have. obviously not every combat should be designed specifically to be easy for your PCs, but rewarding them with an opportunity to show off what makes them unique is a great way to make them feel clever and powerful and make combat rounds enjoyable. plus, if your players are new to the game, it's a good way of getting them used to their class features!
  4. having cool opponents. YMMV on this one, but just making sure that the opponents your players are fighting are cool and unique in some way rather than just feeling like a random encounter from a random monster manual page is really important to our group. obviously what this specifically means is going to vary group to group, but for our group it means a lot of the time we're facing other interesting PC builds (this is often advised against in dnd spaces though so we might just be freaks). even just really recognizable enemies that might have goals other than just 'killing the party' can make a combat really cool and memorable
  5. utilizing maps and environments in unique ways, and encouraging your players to do the same. having one side of a field be slightly elevated so that the group shooting crossbow bolts over it gets advantage, making a map that's full of choke points and rewards strategic maneuvering, etc. or just add in some props. give your players torches so they can move swiftly and set fire to things, or a rope so they can swing around their environment. something as simple as giving your players something to interact with can make a huge difference in combat!

these are just the main things that i've personally found helpful. i used to be a huge combat hater and found it soooo boring and now it's one of my favourite parts of the game. again i'm going to tag my partner in on this because they're the person who got me so invested in combat and they will probably have better advice for you, and again this is not meant to be treated as a list of universal rules by any means, but it was helpful for me!!!!

(also i think just practice and having the players get used to the unique things their characters can do is a big help too. that just takes time and practice)

One thing that Firefox can’t do is allow me to access my telehealth therapy appointments. Three different platforms now have rejected my use of Firefox. I use Safari instead bc that’s what works and at least it isn’t chrome, but for folks who rightfully use Firefox, be aware that many, if not all, telehealth platforms will not work on Firefox (something about the encryption/security not being up to their standard, I believe; if there are hacks that Firefox gurus know to bypass this, please share with the class?).

Any reason the developers of those sites give that is not 'we're too lazy to check compatibility so we're blocking Firefox' is false.

saw a post abt HBO removing shows that suggests ppl just “burn dvds” but everyone doesnt know how to do that so here is one way to do that

- get blank dvds (Both +R or -R work, I think +R is slightly cheaper, the difference is rewritability), these are not very expensive for the amount you can get in bulk (if you are in the US 100 of them is about 30$ at walmart)

- an external DVD drive that plugs in via usb is also around 20-40$ (it tends to be closer to 20)

- download DVDFlick (free)

- if you don’t already have the mp4/mpeg of whatever media you want to burn, you can download movies/shows off of sites like gomovies.sx and soap2day

gomovies.sx will have a download button that looks like this

Image

below the video you can choose one of these

if you click streamlare for example and then the download button it will take you here where the mp4 is

(if you’re on an iphone/ipad, clicking download will save it to your files app)

- if you cant find the download button on soap2day you can also install a video downloader extension which will find the movie for you

- at this point you can drag and drop it into a google drive or keep it on your computer but if you still want it on dvd ->

- open dvd flick, drag and drop the video

- click “project settings”

- give it whatever title you want, you can change encoder to “normal” (default is below normal if you are doing other things on the computer). you dont need to change target size or thread count (unless you want to)

- insert a blank dvd into your drive, make sure you click “burn project to disc”

- click accept then click “create dvd” next to menu and project settings. it will create a destination folder and this dialogue box will pop up when you click “create” on more dvds, just click “yes” and then “okay” on the box that appears after it

it’ll take a couple hours, once its done take a sharpie & write whats on it and stick it in a case . or dont . im not ur mom

🔫 check the notes for my replies i am no longer asking 🔫

Hello! I'm going to teach you how to get whatever cursor you want.

First, figure out what you want as a cursor. I'm going to be changing mine to a Skyrim mouse.

So first you get a picture of whatever you want, as clean as possible:

Open your favorite art program and clean it up, then save as a png:

Then go here and convert it to a .cur file. Make sure there's no gap between the corner of the arrow and the corner of the png.

Next you go to Control Panel:

Select Mouse from the list:

Then go to the Pointers tab and pick whichever mouse cursor you want to replace.

Click "Browse..." and find the .cur file you made earlier:

And voila! I now have a Skyrim cursor.

You may have to tinker with the size a bit to get the point to be accurate. If that happens, just resize your png and convert to .cur again.

Happy customization!

reblogging this again cause last time i just prev-ed but now that i have done this i know where to do it lol

the prev had pointed out if you dont save your .cur in the cursor folder then your cursor might just reset to default when you restart your pc

this is where you save your .cur! i now have an undertale soul cursor

I used to obsessively make these for my friends. So now you can, too!

dungeon farming economy setting with a healer girl MC suffering crippling boredom due to her subclass being inefficient for the most effective farming parties so she's stuck guiding noobs over and over again on the upper levels

then she meets this absolutely unhinged berserker woman that's bleeding all over the place but damn she's good at fighting and it turns out she needs a healer that can work with her that isn't one of the pansy barrier healers that the meta teams want and noone wants a berserker because they're insane and get stronger the closer to death they are, which barrier healers can't help because they're designed for preventing damage and topping off whatever slips past their mitigation. MC's healer class is fucking awesome at sustain and keeping people from dying but all the meta parties use classes and equipment that rely on constantly being topped off, which she can't do because she mostly has beefy heals and defense buffs

so, seeing nothing else to do, MC and Zerker go dungeon diving and after a rocky start, they hit off immediately because MC is actually insanely fight-happy and just wants the rush of a good fight, while Zerker is partly a masochist and partly doing this as a coping mechanism

and thus they become badasses that get further down the dungeon than anyone else in recent history all through sheer gumption, spite, and a looooooot of hyperviolence

oh, and they have hot sloppy yuri sex, can't forget that
