What able bodied authors think I, an amputee and a wheelchair user, would want in a scifi setting:

  • Tech that can regenerate my old meat legs.
  • Robot legs that work just like meat legs and are functionally just meat legs but robot
  • Literally anything that would mean I don't have to use a wheelchair.
  • If I do need to use a wheelchair, make it fly or able to "walk me" upstairs

What I actually want:

  • Prosthetic covers that can change colour because I'm too indecisive to pick one colour/pattern for the next 5+ years.
  • A leg that I can turn off (seriously, my above knee prosthetic has no off switch... just... why?)
  • A leg that won't have to get refitted every time I gain or loose weight.
  • A wheelchair that I can teleport to me and legs I can teleport away when I'm too tierd to keep walking. And vice versa.
  • In that same vein, legs I can teleport on instead of having to fiddle around with the sockets for half an hour.
  • Prosthetic feet that don't require me to wear shoes. F*ck shoes.
  • Actually accessible architecture, which means when I do want to use my wheelchair, it's not an issue.
  • Prosthetic legs with dragon-claw feet instead of boring human feet or just digigrade prosthetics that are just as functional as normal human-shaped ones.
  • A manual wheelchair with the option to lift my seat up like those scissor-lift things so I'm not eye-level with everyone's butt on public transport/so I can reach the top shelf by myself.
  • A prosthetic foot that lights up when it hits the ground like those children's shoes.

40,000 years ago, early humans painted hands on the wall of a cave. This morning, my baby cousin began finger painting. All of recorded history happened between these two paintings of human hands. The Nazca Lines and the Mona Lisa. The first TransAtlantic flight and the first voyage to the Moon. Humanity invented the wheel, the telescope, and the nuclear bomb. We eradicated wild poliovirus types 2 and 3. We discovered radio waves, dinosaurs, and the laws of thermodynamics. Freedom Riders crossed the South. Hippies burned their draft cards. Countless genocides, scientific advancements, migrations, and rebellions. More than a hundred billion humans lived and died between these two paintings—one on a sheet of paper, and one on the inside of a cave. At the dawn of time, ancient humans stretched out their hands. And this morning, a child reached back.

A Timeline of Humanity:

You can say that representation and diversity doesn't matter or that its 'cringe' or argue about how it is or isn't good enough, but tell that to my 50 year old mother. Who binge watched heartstopper (of her own accord) and is now on her 3rd re-watch. Tell that to my mother who has since sat me down and had serious conversations asking me about my experiences and apologising for how she reacted when I came out. Tell that to my mother who once said she would never understand trans people and that she was 'just too old for that' and couldn't accept them, and has now realised what that attitude does to kids. Who has made facebook posts about how beautiful the story is abd how she wishes it came out when she was a kid and told all of her friends to watch it for the sake of their own children. Who is now researching ways to promote inclusion and education surrounding gender identity in the primary school she works at.

You can say it doesn't matter and that people can never change. But you'll be wrong.

Olivia saying “the younger versions are in love, they love each other so dearly, there's like, you know, fledgling friendship, and there's possessiveness and there's passion" and also saying "they were each other's first love i would say, and they’re incredibly heartbroken towards the end" I'm being normal about this so normal I swear

I like to imagine Rhaenicent in the most troubled and intertwined relationship possible.

I imagine them having an “relationship” for all those 10 years, during their adult lives, they're married to other people. They having these escapades through the passages, with encounters that they absolutely do not talk about, but they unload everything in sex, there is anger, sadness and a lot of resentment.

Alicent can't let go. She feels sick with the situation. How is she different from Criston Cole? Being used solely by Rhaenyra's lust. When she's not even her only lover. She resents who Harwin is to Rhaenyra's life, their children. Because outside of those moments, away from Rhaenyra's body, who is she? plus the same miserable woman with the duties of a queen, with children she can't relate to and a husband who, in the back of her mind, she admits disgusts her.

But she can't get out of it, can't stop reaching for Rhaenyra. Because that's all she has, all she wants, all that keeps her. That's the only thing she took for herself.

Rhaenyra, on the other hand, just feels betrayed, alone and isolated. Harwin becomes her security and companionship, he takes whatever she is willing to give. He knows a part of her will never belong to her to give to him.

Rhaenyra knows it's not fair to try to reach Alicent in Harwin, which they once had, but it's the closest. The only realistic option. Because all she can take from Alicent are deep cuts she'll let fester until the flesh falls off if it means never letting the woman go.

I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t hate that they made Alicent younger and rhaenyra her best friend. Like I’m sorry what’s better? Evil stepmother trope, or sapphic besties that are in love, get torn apart by evil men and then start a war? I think we all know the answer

I love how different forms of art are all obsessed with each other. A book tries to capture the feeling of music, a painting tries to depict a scene in a book, a song tries to paint a picture. And it's always insufficient. No single form of art can encapsulate another form of art and capture the essence of it – but it tries, and its attempts are impossibly compelling. All the forms of art are in love with each other and spend so much time trying to express what makes the other kinds of art so lovely.
