theres this function that content warnings serve that i think is really, really underappreciated and its not just as a warning for those who wouldnt want to read it, but as a function of like. acknowledgement that you are writing about said topics, like. i'm pretty laissez-faire about putting content warnings on pages of my comic but i know for certain there is stuff i'm going to have to tag very thoroughly.

and like. i think people would be more receptive of content warnings and be more willing to if it wasnt something slapped on to satisfy "pearl-clutchers" or "antis" or whatever phrase we're using to talk around the phrase "triggered sjw" today, but acted as an extension of a summary or elevator pitch, like.

a content warning can be extremely valuable in building a confidence that an author is knowing what the fuck they're doing, which is way, way more relevant to a text than literally anything else, like. im not against reading a story where sexual assault or something similarly gnarly happens, but i definitely don't want to read someone pissing and shitting their way around sexual assault like an idiot and someone saying "hey im going here" is a great heuristic for whether someones a fucking idiot or not

"i'm not triggered or upset by or even ideologically opposed to it, i just associate it with something so bad that i can't enjoy it anymore" is such a frustrating relationship to have with a piece of media

walmart insulin is a synthetic insulin which is different from analog (novolog, humalog etc) and has a much much longer active time, which forces you to follow an extremely strict diet in order to avoid hypoglycemic episodes (i take novolog which starts working around 15 minutes after taking it, and synthetic stays in your system for up to 8 hours with a peak at 4 hours) so take walmart insulin with a grain of salt…it’s not a long term solution.

We didn’t start this war internet users have with ads - We might have moaned about banner ads, but it was only when they started making noises when we might be listening to music or a podcast or whatever, causing two sound sorces at once, that we started trying to block ads universally rather than just a specific type of ad (pop ups).

And since then ads have gotten worse - Actual malware rather than merely breaking one of the fundamental sins of web design - though shalt not autoplay anything with sound. And the more aggressive a website is with ‘please turn off adblock’ the less I trust it to bother to vet ads and advertisers to make sure they’re not installing malware.

Not to mention that the idea that avoiding ads is “freeloading” is hilariously backward. Advertisement is a transaction between the platform and the advertiser, the user has no obligation to provide the views/clicks the platform has promised. Using an adblocker isn’t freeloading in the same way that leaving the room to get a snack during a commercial break isn’t cheating the tv network.

Ok y’all, I work as a web developer and I’m here to tell you that you are 100% right and that it’s shit. SO I’m going to tell you how to get around websites that block you from using their website if you’re using an adblocker. 

Every website uses a language called JavaScript; long story short it’s a website language that allows developers to do the crazy shit you see on websites. Now the easiest thing to do is to disable JavaScript to stop them from knowing you have an adblocker:

Oh no! I’m blocked from viewing the website. It would be a terrible shame if I were able to right click and select the “inspect” feature

Click the three dots in the top right and open the “Settings” Menu

And then scrolled down to “Debugger” and checked the “Disable Javascript Option”

And then just refreshed the page
