Is it true that Murdoc and 2D fucked on Plastic Beach?

HnnnngNNNNNNg anon here’s the thing, I want to be a good 2doc fan and reply with a pithy comment about how OBVIOUSLY Murdoc and 2D fucked on Plastic Beach and rack up a ton of likes, but here’s the thing.

Personally, I DON’T think that they did.

They were both wrecks during PB. They lost Noodle, regardless of whether or not we think that 2D has the capacity to forgive Murdoc for it, Murdoc had in fact KIDNAPPED 2D and was holding him there against is will, and Murdoc was drinking and drugging himself to death, and not even bothering to hide it from his fans. They were both psychologically shattered, and in my eyes, there would be no catharsis in fucking, because 2D was in a position where he had ZERO agency, and Murdoc was losing his humanity so fast that his recovery seemed impossible.

I respect that some fans see something romantic in Plastic Beach, hell, I’ve seen great comics/art of them having touching and intimate moments, but I’m incapable of reconciling the trauma and the hurt that they were both dealing with at that time and wrapping it up in a bow of “but then they fucked.”

For me, a dramatic “I love you!” confession in such a toxic environment seems manipulative to me, and since this ship tends to be a little tone deaf to the abusive aspects of their dynamic, I just can’t see it as being a period of time where they were feeling much attraction for each other, let alone acting on it.

So that’s my own personal HC/hot take, but again, I’m not saying that other interpretations of what went down on PB aren’t valid, because I’ve seen people handle their experiences there very well! (Also, my views have shifted so much over there years that I’m willing to bet you can find similar asks from like, 2 years ago with totally different answers on this blog. I’m a flaky binch, okay?)

I dunno. Isn’t there something more frustrating and deliciously angsty about two people who are mutually attracted to each other isolated on a tiny little island who never touch the whole year they’re trapped together? Lean into that ANGST!

I mean racism and xenophobia are closely linked concepts tbh, especially when talking about an English white man. And honestly racism alone should be enough for you to realise how shitty this guy is. But I reckon both fit anyway because his disgustingly offensive depictions aren't limited to race, he also goes for mocking particular countries' cultures, practices, and history (mainly Japan - most criticism comes from his treatment of Asian cultures ngl), and I'd say that's more xenophobic based on my understanding of the word. I mean, I might have misunderstood the meaning, in which case I encourage you to correct me. However, we've got two decades worth of content where any views outside of the UK or USA is horribly offensive in some manner. And even within the UK or USA: he still manages to throw in a racist caricature or two, or a Nazi symbol somewhere, or some dialogue that ridicules either a race or a culture or the British lowerclass or disabled people or attempt to reduce an entire movement (see "environmentalism is all about getting rid those pesky plastic bottles" or "feminism is wanting a girl Bond" - welcome to the 'rich white man pretends to be woke while protecting his own interests' show!). And as for his recent Rob Liefield-esque depictions of Noodle... I mean he's got a real knack for a being an absolute shit stain of a human being.

Tldr: they're closely linked concepts, especially when talking about a white guy from the UK. But since his offensive depictions include race, culture, cultural practices, and countries' history: I believe both apply.

Why do russ and Murdoc break up?

Well, a multitude of things. I don’t wanna give all the details, as they’re kinda things that I’d rather have explored in the fic

But generally..

When they got together, Murdoc was in the “healthiest” phase of his life. Not even drinking. However attitude wise he was at the worst. He had grown to start idolizing his dad and his bandit work. He was starting to want to be like him, even to the point where his clothing mirrored his fathers past attire. (He even kept strictly clean shaven, not bc he just preferred to, but to purposefully be like his dad lol)

This is kinda shown in that one Russdoc comic I did.

Anyhow. Russel..doesn’t like Sebastian for a multitude of reasons, as u can imagine. He tried to be patient and lenient on Murdoc’s idolization, but it Really rubbed him the wrong way. Murdoc couldn’t understand this, because as far as he sees it Sebastian didn’t do anything to Russel directly, so he thought Russel’s discomfort was “out of proportion”. (Also he was trying to hide from the reality of his childhood)

There was a lot of back and forth over this. Russel did some Things that definitely didn’t help the situation. Murdoc was belligerent as usual. This is the section I’d rather keep the details hush 🤫

Eventually however Murdoc wisened up and got the memo that parading around trying to be Sebastian Jr was super wack. He stopped. Went a full 180 and focused on being himself. And thaaaatttsss when the drinking case back in. All the anger. The temper. The general brattiness. Selfishness. The list goes on and on. After giving up his idolization, it only left him to face his Very Real issues and traumas. Which of course he wasn’t keen on doing.

Murdoc’s “healthiness” crumbled and now he was just becoming an angry drunk. Russel tried his best to be patient with this as well, understanding that Murdoc has A Lot of Issues. But when Russel Disapproves of something he gets a lot colder, and thus he was prone to angry/harsh outbursts towards Murdoc. Thennnn Noodle came into the picture.

Russel was ready to accept the responsibility of being a parent. And with that, he demanded Murdoc work harder to clean himself up, refusing to have an raging alcoholic bitch man be around little Noodle.

Murdoc tried. He did. But his anger over the “ultimatum” won out over his better judgement. He felt betrayed, like Russel was throwing away all their years of friendship and relationship at the drop of the hat.

After a string of nasty arguments, they broke it off (Murdoc technically being the one to end it).

They didn’t speak or see eachother for nearly a whole year. (Which is insane considering how close they’ve always been)

Eventually, Murdoc reached out again. Russel, surprised bc usually when Murdoc burns a bridge it strictly stays that way, took a chance and answered.

They made up and have been friends and in close contact again since.
