So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,

And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.

And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?

But nope, that's not the case:

Some selections from the article:

"The region has been experiencing some of the most intense heat waves in recent years, but in many cases they’ve been under-reported due to misconceptions about Africans’ ability to withstand them.

“Africa is seen as a sunny and hot continent,” said Amadou Thierno Gaye, a research scientist and professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. “People think we are used to heat, but we are having high temperatures for a longer duration. Nobody is used to this.”

"The Sahel, for instance, has been heating at a faster pace than the global average despite being hot already. Burkina Faso and Mali, both in West Africa’s Sahel, are among countries that are set to become almost uninhabitable by 2080, if the world continues on its current trajectory, a UK university study found. Its people are especially vulnerable due to shrinking resources, such as water, and poor amenities, and a dearth of trees and parks means there are few options for places to cool off."

Please stop co-sleeping with babies and toddlers. I worked 3 separate child deaths last night, and all of them were due to parents sleeping in the same bed as their kids, and then rolling over onto the child and accidentally smothering them in their sleep. They’re definitely not my first co-sleeping deaths, but I am seeing an increase in how many cases I’m working now compared to when I first started at CPS six years ago.

This also includes kids sleeping in the same bed as other kids. I understand it’s not always possible to provide separate beds for every child due to space or money issues, but at the very least factor in the kids’ sizes, weight, and developmental abilities when figuring out which kids can share a bed.

If a child isn’t old enough to get out from under someone, push someone away, or slap the person awake on their own without any help, then they’re not old enough to sleep in the same bed as someone else.

so SAG-AFTRA finally released some official guidance for fans, viewers, creators/influencers, critics, and more during the strike. here's what you need to know:

  1. if you see a publication/news source/journalist talking about a piece of struck work, that's ok. they're allowed to do that.

2. they're asking regular viewers and fans to DONATE TO STRIKE FUNDS, SHOW UP TO PICKETS IF YOU CAN, and please do NOT boycott streaming services or movies in theaters.

3. influencers, content creators, cosplayers, and anything in between is still a bit of a grey area, but they're asking people to use their best judgement. "organically" means UNPAID promo (like an invite to a premiere without being paid, being sent a publicity box, letting the company's social media post a photo of you in cosplay, etc).

obviously this doesn't answer every question, and isn't hard and fast rules for fanworks, but it can at least inform how you personally choose to move forward when posting online and moving publically. i hope this helps!

It's a unique type of frustration when you agree that a character is deeply flawed but other people keep missing what's actually wrong with them and assigning them new flaws that they don't even have it's like free my man he did none of that. He did a bunch of other shit tho.

Sometimes in anime they’ll acknowledge hair colors in dialogue, making it clear this is an alternate version of Japan where people have pink hair sometimes, sometimes the way they talk makes it clear only we, the viewer, see the outlandish hair colors- yet Lycoris Recoil makes the bold decision to have only one of its characters able to see that they are in an anime and their opponent has green hair. Everyone else sees black hair and non-anime features. Also one of them sees photorealistic people and it’s implied this is bizarre. What are the implications of this. What is the truth. I want the show to be about this now, to change to revolve around this joke.

drove past a hotel and they had a pretty big digital message board and I glanced over and almost had a fucking stroke while driving because it was just playing this gif

Despite some of its misses, Firefox still matters. Mozilla is pushing companies to be more private, and its key product is different at its core. The browser market is dominated by Google’s Chromium codebase and its underlying browser engine, Blink, the component that turns code into visual web pages. Microsoft’s Edge Browser, Brave, Vivaldi, and Opera all use adapted versions of Chromium. Apple makes developers use its WebKit browser engine on iOS. Other than that, Firefox’s Gecko browser engine is the only alternative in existence.
“This market needs variety,” Willemsen says. If Firefox diminishes further, there’ll be less competition for Chrome. “We need that difference for open internet standards, for the sake of preventing monopolies,” Willemsen says. Others agree. Everyone we spoke with for this story—inside and outside of Mozilla—says having Firefox flourish makes the web a better place. The trick is figuring out how to get there.

Download and start using Firefox if you don’t already, I made the switch back to Firefox after not using it for years and being a chrome person until 2020 and have never regretted it

post-totk Link, having just fought his second iteration of Ganon, wandering the tunnels beneath Hyrule Castle banging two sticks together yelling "if there's a third Ganon hiding under this castle you legally have to tell me"

Demise, glaring through his door's peephole in annoyance: come back with a warrant

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

Might I add:

I don’t know a snappy description but the my nemesis cynthia story certainly lives in my head
