There was no plan at all. I really had no idea what was on page three until I finished page two. It’s exciting to work that way. It’s like taking a guitar solo in the middle of a blues song. If you plan it out, it’s going to just lie there. You have to go with what you’re really feeling. Okay, sometimes it sucks. But sometimes you hit some gold.

Here’s a look at my variant cover for issue #5 of Marvel’s Champions series. It’s a play on the 90′s X-Men arcade game that I spent too much time playing as a kid. Had a lot of fun making the pixel art and homage Jim Lee and Romita style drawings of Ms. Marvel, Hulk and Spider-man.

FOC for the LAZARUS Sourcebook Vol 1: Carlyle is this coming Monday! Diamond order code is FEB160529! You can pre-order and make everyone involved very happy!

This was born out of the old “Handbook to the Marvel Universe” type issues, and the DC “Secret Files,” but we wanted to go a bit (well… a lot, actually) deeper into the world. The issue has all sorts of details about what life is like under Carlyle – everything from how the government “works” (quotes intentional) to the state of entertainment, the arts, details on the Post, the military, and some nuggets about the Lazarus herself, Forever Carlyle.

I am unduly proud of this issue. You can tell from the credits in the image (Image! Hah!) that there were a lot of hands at the oars for this one.
