Stressy Depressy Messy

@absidyrose

she/her, Pisces, INFJ

Honestly, in my work as a therapist, I’m seeing this A Lot, and tbh I still don’t have a satisfactory approach to it. A heavy dose of Existentialist “create your own Purpose” tempered with “when the plane’s going down, put your own oxygen mask on first”, but… yeah, there is no ethical way to work on individual emotional distress without acknowledging the systemic socioeconomic, geopolitical fuckery going on at the moment, and the sheer grief that comes with it.

I’m a guidance counselor/psychologist for teenagers and it’s getting really hard to motivate young people to work for a future they don’t believe in.

They look at ther future and see global warming, wwIII, unemployement, political unstability, poison in everything  they eat, the earth and animals dying all around them.

I saw this video where someone was asking french teens in the 50s how they imagine the future would be. The war hadn’t been over for long and yet it was all positive with like peace and flying cars and such. Then they went and ask the same questions to nowadays teens and hell that was depressing. Some still had hope, but it was just that “well I hope I’ll have a nice house and maybe some kid” but there was such a hesitancy to it, like they didn’t dare to hope too much.

People mock Greta Thunberg but what they don’t get is that when she said “you stole my dreams”, it was the truth.

Young people don’t get to dream like they used to. They don’t dream anymore, they grief all that won’t be anymore and that’s just so fucking sad.

Imagine an AU where Hamlet and Horatio are Romeo and Juliet and they’re madly in love and Hamlet gets poisoned and dies in Horatio’s arms and Horatio tries to kill himse-

… wait a minute

How to determine if a kids injury is serious or not

offer them “medicinal chocolate” if they stop crying it’s fine if they carry on crying/refuse the chocolate then it’s serious

From age two apparently^^

Oh wow I never heard this one.

German edition: offer the kid to blow away the pain. If it’s better afterwards it’s okay, if they refuse or still screaming it’s serious

Also a lot healthier than giving your kid chocolate everytime they cry tbh

It’s not everytime they cry it’s only if they get injured and you’re unsure if it’s serious because they are screaming but you can’t tell if they are overreacting or not

For things that are clearly a minor bump we give kisses instead

And before anyone thinks if a kid is screaming it’s not an over reaction

My kid fell off their bike and skinned their knee. Just skinned it that’s all and they went into full on scream/crying hysterical because it was bleeding and they hadn’t had an injury where they bled within their memory

It wasn’t so much the pain as the blood that made them hysterical.

In that case we could see it wasn’t serious but the chocolate helped them calm down and then I got them to tell me about Terraria until they were calm and their wound was dressed

It was absolutely an overreaction to a skinned knee but it was also an understandable one

Kids don’t have experience or pain tolerance we do and sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s something that requires a trip to the hospital or not

Kids don’t have experience or pain tolerance we do

This is important….we’ve had 20+ years of injuries and can compare some pain to other pains and be like this doesn’t hurt nearly as much as this other thing that happened. Pain is an experience that’s new to kids, especially little ones. Some overreactions are to be expected

There is a good chance that whatever just happened is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to them

This also applies to emotional pain.

They have not had the experiences that build emotional resilience yet, so it’s only normal that they will have a hard time with things we consider to be trivial. They may be trivial to us, but, as with physical pain “Whatever just happened is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to them”

“(Schizophrenic) Individuals in this sample were at least 14 times more likely to be victims of a violent crime than to be arrested for one. In general, the risk associated with being in the community was higher than the risk these individuals posed to the community”

This means that neurotypicals are a much bigger threat to schizophrenic people than schizophrenic people are to neurotypicals.

You can now shove all your “psycho killer” stereotypes up your ass.

I’d really appreciate if non schizophrenic people reblogged this cause the misconception that schizophrenic people are dangerous is so widespread and I really want people to see this post so that they won’t react with fear and apprehension when they meet a schizophrenic person.

Kids at my school are like this. Which is crazy, because our freshman year, our class full on broke a teacher. he stormed out in the middle of class and didn’t come back.

What your headache is tellin you

I haven’t seen this post in a min but precisely when I have a headache RN it comes up in my feed

Two quick additions, as someone who suffered from chronic migraines

1. Behind the eyes: eye strain or just long stress. More sleep will definitely make this feel better. 2. Temples: unclench your jaw, as that bone is putting too much pressure on your temples.

This is a fucking life saviour with the amount of headaches I have

how was Barbie the Princess and the Pauper not gay?

It had all the makings of a truly great movie for my young gay self

The whole thing is about the connection between the two female leads

and they sing a duet

are basically cat lesbians:

And hold hands in the game

I know it’s Barbie and For Kids™, but honestly it would have made more sense to me when I was younger if the two leads had gotten together since the movie was all about them and their connection to each other

like, this is the final shot:

tl;dr the hetero agenda confused me a lot more than this ideal double gay wedding

I thought they were in love as a kid. Barbie said she wanted to marry her best friend and I thought she meant the brunette.
