I went to the protest in The Common tonight and I had to leave.
I could not be in an environment full of third-party voters, where I saw Jill Stein signs and where speakers chanted about Bernie Sanders (who TOLD YOU this was not the time for a protest vote), on this night. We chanted for women’s bodies, for LGBTQIA+ rights, for black, brown, immigrant, native, and muslim lives, and, above all else, FUCK Donald Trump.
But to have the audacity, this night, to go off on the Democratic party? How am I supposed to stand in a group of people and wonder how many of them voted third party, or simply didn’t vote?
I want more than anything to be protesting, but I can’t, in good conscience, protest with people who did not vote for Hillary Clinton. Because if you didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton, you are ACTIVELY COMPLICIT in the next four years, and there is NO WAY around that.

To the 3% of people in Florida who voted 3rd party- if you had voted for Hillary, that’s 29 electoral votes that would have gone to her.
To the 5.5% of people in Michigan who voted 3rd party- if you had voted for Hillary, that’s 16 electoral votes that would have gone to her.

Total, that is 90 electoral votes.
Fucking THINK about that. Think about that in the coming months before you DARE open your mouth about some DNC conspiracy to elect Hillary Clinton and suppress your voices using the fear of a Trump presidency. Shut the FUCK up. Because your voices could have been just as loud under President Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Because this protest? This anti-establishment, anti-two-party-system, pro-minimum-wage-raise protest? It could be happening in a country where my right and humanity, and the rights and humanity of others, are not actively, presently, in VERY REAL danger.
I have no doubt that this protest was scheduled, by the Boston Socialist Alternative, REGARDLESS of the winner of this election.
Hillary would’ve been elected right now, at this very moment, if instead of you protesting your vote, you had just voted for her. 90 electoral votes. She would EASILY be President.
You KNEW 3rd party candidates didn’t stand a chance. You were told. But instead, you had to vote for them anyways.

Congratulations; you are the new President of the United States. I have followed your campaign since the moment you dramatically descended down that escalator and announced you were running for President. I listened to your announcement speech in utter disbelief; I couldn’t believe that someone so openly bigoted and ignorant could even get a campaign off the ground, much less be successful.
I should have known better. I watched in horror as people I once understood to be rational and kind people put their support behind you. It suddenly became okay, no, encouraged, to speak without a filter. To say horrible, violent, bigoted things. I saw very early on the mirroring between the rise of Adolf Hitler and your own. I caught your quoting of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. I grew even more angry, but not surprised, that you refused to denounce the KKK’s endorsement of you. Every time you opened your mouth I grew more angry, and more scared, because I was seeing people agree with you. You never gave any clues about policy, or how you were going to implement it. You never cared about unity.
And somehow you still got elected.
You have called Mexicans rapists. Blacks, criminals. Women, ugly pigs who you have no problem ‘grabbing by the p*ssy’. You embody everything that is wrong with white America: and now you’re the face of it.
The opportunity placed before you is unprecedented: your party (who you have spent a lot of time and energy snobbing) controls the House and the Senate. You get to pick the Supreme Court justice(s). I don’t think you know anything about how to do this job, and you are nowhere near prepared. Much of the American population now sits in horror and panic. They fear the hate crimes you have encouraged your followers to commit. You will not be able to execute extreme amounts of power due to checks and balances, but you have an incredible amount of influence over the people who follow you.
You are now the President. You are not just the president of the Whites, though. You’re the President of the black community, the Latinxs, indigenous, LGBTQ+, Muslim, Catholic, Jewish. You now stand in the shoes of one who must represent all these people.
It’s time to grow up, Donald Trump. I hold you to the standards of any President elect. It’s time for you to take responsibility.
I refuse to call you President until you earn that title. Not through the electoral college; they don’t represent me. But through your actions.

Welp, I beat Valkyria Chronicles
Who’s ready for a rant/review?
Not you? Too bad.
Valkyria Chronicles seriously felt like a giant 20 hour sludgefest. As in I was slowly wading knee-deep in swamp.
Good fucking god why would a strategy game rely on random chances and probabilities for 80% of its actions?
Why are there so many loading screens? Why are there so many goddamn cutscenes that, even if you can skip them, you still need to load and watch a second of them first? Why are the credits unskippable?
Why is the dialog so long? Half the time it doesn’t feel at all realistic. When characters interact, they usually reaffirm what each other said about 3 times, and they do it via repetition. (E.g., paraphrased: “Wow this bread is good! You should open a bakery!” After saying this like 2-3 times, instead of responding with “I’ve thought about doing so” or whatnot, the other character responds with something much more repetitious like “I’ve always wanted to open a bakery.” This is just paraphrased and isn’t word for word how it went.) Character interactions constantly feel a step away from human, which while it gets the point across, rarely feels genuine.
There was only one character death in the game that made me upset. The only other death I sympathized with wasn’t even a character with a name, nor were they an ally. The rest were anticlimactic, predictable, or just outright stupid. (”I love you so I’ll kill myself in a blaze of glory for your honor!” fuck my ASSHOLE.)
The worst offender was at the very end, when you defeat the final boss. You literally have him about to surrender. He’s disarmed, his super weapon’s been powered down, he’s weak and surrounded. Yet even one of your friends shows up and grabs him only to kill the bad guy in a suicide maneuver to atone for how he hurt you and and another team member earlier int he game AND IT’S SO FUCKING UNNECESSARY I’M ACTUALLY MAD. There was literally NO realistic reason for him to kill himself nor the final boss when they could’ve easily apprehended him. The icing on the shit cake? He kills them both by pulling the baddy-mc-badguy into a pit on board the carrier you’re on, which causes his deactivated weapon to explode, which causes the carrier to start exploding and basically FUCKS the two main characters over. GOOD FUCKING JOB ATONING FOR YOUR DICKISH BEHAVIOR, ASSHOLE.
Being an anime game of course there’s supernatural shit, but it’s only ever used against you. One good character has special abilities, but they only show up in game context once for the first half of a single mission and you don’t even get to control them at that time. That’s literally it. It’s a huge fucking letdown–I would’ve LOVED to turn the tables and command a super soldier against an impossible objective. If they wanted it to be a plot device, they should’ve kept that in cutscenes only, not actually put it in a mission and not let you use it.
Gameplay wise I love the concept and attempt at the approach, but the reliance on random factors is maddening and outright stupid. The way the game is set up, either things will go perfectly, or they’ll go horribly wrong. There is no in between.
So you wind up saving at a spot just to avoid watching the debriefing cutscenes, and the unit positioning, and the map-start cutscenes, etc. Probably the start of your turn, or right before a big play. Now you have to hope a perk you have will activate or your character won’t suddenly develop Parkinson’s and miss a nearly point blank shot, and when things do go wrong and you do absolutely no damage because of it, you’ll reload. If you forgot to save recently, then prepare to watch all the cutscenes that played all over again since your last save, watch all the dialog bits, over and over and fucking over again, until finally the RNG system stops fucking with you and you can move on.
Whether or not it works in your favor, because of the random aspect most missions you can just rush a full scout team and have them slip in and capture the objective. Balancing is non existent. There is no difficulty curve, just a probability curve. Skirmishes can be beaten in 1-3 turns via a scout rush. Campaign missions can be anywhere from as much of a cakewalk, or can be absolute bullshit difficulty unless you know how to exploit the class imbalance. (One ‘difficult’ boss that can kill your units in milliseconds if you don’t have cover can be beat in a single turn with just a smoke bomb and 3 snipers. Another can be beat in a single turn just by rushing shocktroopers.)
Oh and of course, as you’re moving a unit around, if a perk activates randomly you’ll suddenly freeze and have a little mini-cutscene appear on screen as they say something gloaty, and then they get a perk to activate. Sometimes they can activate repeatedly during the same turn, btw. (Yay perk, boo WASTING MY FUCKING TIME AND DISRUPTING MY MOVEMENT. One of Ted’s perks activated literally 3 times in a single fucking command.)
The game has a horrible habit of also changing mission objectives on you at random, without warning. One mission has two tanks spawn on opposite ends of the map. The only way to beat this mission is if you knew in advance that these tanks were going to spawn, and you equipped both of your own with anti armor rounds so you could actually kill both of them.
My profile shows 20+ hours of play. About 40% of that was actually my gameplay. The rest was watching (and rewatching) cutscenes (some of which were unskippable), waiting for loading screens (there’s plenty to go around!), and waiting for the enemy to make a move (even after they pulled some RNG bullshit and killed a key position of mine. Wanna restart? Too bad: you can’t pause in the middle of enemy movement. You have to wait for their AI to tediously and meticulously finish. Even if they can easily kill you in their first move of their turn, they may decide to wait and finish you off during their last move.)
I like a lot of the side characters you can put on your squads for their designs and backstories, and I feel like this system has a lot of potential, but beyond that this game was incredibly frustrating and slow as shit.
I don’t know why I bothered to finish this game. It was pissing me off for a while, and still does piss me off.
You DO realize they actually added a mission where you CAN play as one of the characters in her Valkryian form right?
It’s a DLC mission and you have to beat 2 other missions before you can even play it….but yeah PROBLEM SOLVED.

* It is okay if you did not get the score you had expected. You had done your best, and your best is what is most important.
* School is hard, my child, believe me I understand… Sometimes things do not go as planned or as hoped, but that is okay. To be honest, I did not do so well in school. In fact, I did not do well until I was put into a different type of school.
* I discovered I learned differently, and once I was given the chance to take a different approach, I passed my classes. Not everyone is meant for the same learning environment.
* Regardless of all of that though my dear, a failed test does not make you stupid… I know you have done your best in a place that demands so much of you, and for that my child, I am ever proud of you.
