In honour of turning 18 in just under 2 weeks (ahhh), I've started drawing characters that defined my childhood. This is the first (and maybe only) of these characters: Emma Bloom from MPHFPC!

Under the cut are some notes on the drawing, as well as the two previous versions of the image because this is a redraw!

Reading A Map of Days and um? I always thought Emma was Welsh but apparently she’s Cornish.

Now every time I see her lines I think of them in that accent 😭 like the traditional one

she's canonically cornish? 🤨😭

I also went to have a look at Hollow City because I vaguely remembered her mentioning Cornwall (do not ask how I remember. My memory is only good for stupid things like these)

And I found this! Page 167.

So, yeah, Emma is Cornish!

am i the only person who didn’t realise this??

(Quick content warning for descriptions of WWII-era nazism/antisemitism/hate crimes/generational trauma, all under the cut)

One could make the argument that Jacob technically isn’t Jewish, considering we canonically don’t know what Maryann’s religion/ethnicity is and, traditionally, Jewishness is matrilineal. HOWEVER, ethnically, Jacob is ABSOLUTELY Jewish because Abe was Jewish. Jacob is biologically Abe’s grandson, which means that Franklin (Jacob’s dad) and Jacob are both ethnically Jewish. Jacob even references generational trauma resulting from antisemitism during WWII in book one.
